Is Obekpa Next? No! He's staying!

If any of you were a NBA GM, who would you pick between the 2? Jakarr or Chris?

If I was an NBA GM, then I wouldn't want to shorten my stay.

Hey! I like both of 'em, but doubt I'd draft them in this draft.

@obekpa12: Dream big or remain a 6'7.5" center with no NBA skills other than blocking shots. . . .

I'd take Obekpa based on potential. That's how young players are drafted. See Harkless, a picture of inconsistancy during his one year tenure at St John's.

After the hideous cornrows and limited playing time at the end of the season I think he was telling Lavin F U.
No, this condor will not fly in the NBA this year, next year or ever. Lavin not being able to convince these guys of the work ahead of them shows us what a Disneyland the wizard is operating in Jamaica. He f uped the 2014 class and spins a non-existing 2015-16 class like a used car salesman trying to sell a future used car that has not been produced as yet.

There are a dozen European big men who can shoot that I would take before Obekpa! Harkless had great moves to the basket and was an excellent offensive player that lacked 40 minutes of concentration. Funny how your concentration gets focused when your $120,000 per month check can be stopped if you stopped playing.

I think Moe scored more points at Duke than CO in his career.

If Chris leaves it will be the worse decision he could have made. He is nowhere near ready for the NBA. He has no low post game, bad hands, and is not a great rebounder. Most of his blocks come from help defense. When his man backs him down, he does not block the shot. He has absolutely no shot of getting drafted.
As far as Europe is concerned, his game is even less suited. In Europe, big men are expected to be able to shoot at least a little or be great offensive rebounders where they can score on putbacks. Chris does not possess any of these skills.
On a positive note, until the last couple of games you could see him making progress. From constant one on one work with the staff, he had developed a little inside game and rebounded better than last year. Having said this, he still has a long, long way to go.
The shame of his situation is that the people around him may not be telling him the truth about his situation. If he stays another year or two his chances will definitely increase.

....... We are in good shape with guards, we just need some big bodies. In Lav we trust

Are you kidding me?

StJohns is not in good shape with guards. Next season will be the final season of eligibility for Green, Branch and Harrison. Hopefully Jordan will have a great season which means he too may leave for pro ball at the end of the 2015 season.

The net result is that StJohns may have no experienced guards to start the 2015 season.

Lavin came to StJohns and inherited a depleted and unbalanced roster and my guess is that he leaves StJohns with an unbalanced talent depleted roster.

I'm pretty sure Cappy is just referring to next year. Further down the road, Lavin has already said he is focused on the 2015 recruiting class.

Please let me refresh you memory; early in the 2014 recruiting season Mr. Lavin either greeted or was quoted in a story that he was looking to bring in 3 "bigs".(his term).

Now he can recruit bigs and guards.

We are in trouble either way. I don't see De Larosa coming here if things look like they are imploding. Next year Greene, Harrison, Branch, Pointer and most likely Jordan will be gone. That leaves Balamou, Jones and Hooper and the 2015 class. We are heading in the wrong direction. I am a Met and Jet fan and can tell when things are going bad pretty easily. Things are going bad.

@obekpa12: Dream big or remain small...

Dream smart or enjoy Tajikistan....

Just a gut feeling, but if CO follows Jakarr out the door, I could see De La Rosa going elsewhere. As someone noted, he's ours to lose ... and we just might be doing that very thing.

Adonis will get 40 minutes a game next season.
He'll see this as a golden opportunity.

Agree, he is coming. With those minutes, SJU better have an EMT court side just for Adonis. ;)

Tom - I hope they have an oxygen tank for the poor kid then. Not conditioned to play 40 minutes of D1 ball yet.

Even if he is 300lbs. I want my center to be between 240-250, so it`s not like he has to lose 80-90lbs this spring/summer, just 50lbs which could be done.

I hope he commits and hope he gets in shape. I would really like a CTK player on the roster.

I would like us to have two CtK kids on the roster, and for UConn to have none.

I would like to have Derek Phelps, Khalid Reeves and Lamar Odom too.

But I'll have to settle for Carl Beckett, Malik Boothe and Adonis.
