Is Obekpa Next? No! He's staying!

As I said, it is in Lavin's hands now but I would let the kid sweat it for another week to see who is coming on board. Sitting out a year and starting over just dawned on this knucklehead and his handlers. Either way, he would have to earn his way back just like Harrison. It will be interesting to see with all the bigs on the team next year if his development is accelerated since this year he had no completion in practices. I would expect the DLR boys to beat the crap out him in practices which can only be good for him and his defense.

was phil greene the x factor on keeping obekpa or was it lavin?

So a person who was apparently considering on transferring them self, was the one who stopped another player from transferring? It gets weirder every day.

Not so weird if your good friend was to try and get you to stay

Another lesson for the trolls on here. To bash someone is one thing but to beat the dead horse and take it over the line is another. Quite a few of you should have your tails between your legs right now but are probably too stupid or don't care about the things you say behind a keyboard.

I was apathetic to his decision. Tens of thousands of students transfer every year it's wrong to criticize anyone for their personal choices. That apathy has turned to anticipation. Good to see our front court in tact(somewhat).

For the record, I still wish to see a coaching change and maintain the 2014 recruiting effort was reprehensible. I, too, am glad to see opportunities on the horizon. However, I just cannot see this coach having any real success.

Just curious

Is it still a failure in your eyes?

We certainly could end up with a surprising 2014 class and be very competitive, but Lavin is not going to become a better coach no matter who he recruits. Best chance is that we get more players like Jordan who figured out how to take certain aspects of the game into their own hands, but if the players are not being coached on solid offensive and defensive fundamentals and strategies, we will continue to underachieve under SL. The only way SL gets better is if he surrounds himself with a more assertive and qualified coaching staff.

I feel like no matter who he brings in, he still really screwed up this class.

It's like when you forget to do your homework, so right before class starts you throw something together at the last second. You might have homework, but it's not going to substantial or good.

I think that is a little harsh. Who knows how long he's been on Thomas--who looks completely legit. Two things help recruiting outside of the school name and coach's name: winning and playing time. We had no playing time and we really didn't win.

We really don't know who Lavin had in his pocket all along. Norm pulled Hardy out of thin air, but then it was reported he was on the kid forever. I mean look at Joey Delarosa. The kid committed and enrolled without a whisper. For all we know Lavin could have had ADR, JDR, Thomas, and Mason as locks. Maybe Cunningham told him he'd wait to see if Sampson went pro?

Joey Delarosa was a bench-dweller on a mid-major team, so it's not surprising that no one noticed (or cared) that he had enrolled at St John's. It's very debatable as to whether he should even receive a scholarship.

But if Obekpa returns with his head screwed on straight and Lavin can pull out Thomas and a strong wing, then he's got a shot at delivering a strong season next year and earning an extension.

His transferring didn't make sense. IMO he wants to go pro ASAP. Next year he would get plenty of pt. If he transferred ,he would loose a year and there would be no guarantee that he would start. But, who knows what goes on behind the scenes.

We won't know if it's a failure or not until the season is well in progress. But none of those guys project to be anything more than serviceable roll players. That still leaves us with a horrendously weak front line, especially offensively.

I think Horford would be more than a role player on this team. We could really use a guy from a winning culture

I hope Phil can talk him off the bench the next time he doesn't want to play the same way he might get him to stay.

Agree that it's nice to get a kid from a winning program. And I know that stats aren't everything. I also know that the kid only averaged like 13 minutes a game last year. But what makes you think that he's going to be more than a role player? I haven't watched enough of him to say whether he will or he won't, just wondering what makes you feel confident that he can have more of an impact here than he did at Mich(after 3 years there)? Sounds similar to Branch situation in that some may be expecting a kid to come as more than advertised. And unfortunately almost all of Lavin's recruits/transfers have been less than advertised.

Maybe because Michigan was a final 2 team last year and an elite 8 team this year and we...well...we...uh...were not!

This is from the Villanova game this past season, anyone else notice anything about it?

Rysheed looks like Chuck Berry's love child?

LOL, classic. All kidding aside, I didn't think much of this at the time I saw the picture but now having read all the things posted on here about Obekpa possibly having an attitude problem with the coaches, it won't surprise me if Laving doesn't bring him back.
