If we don't get a bid?

Topics like this is the reason I wish my doctor didn't order me to stop drinking alcoholic beverages. This is worse than my diverticulitis flares.

We're in but even were we to win that first game in the Big Dance, we automatically lose the second, par for the course this season......

Highly doubt we'd be top 10 even with Govan. We'd probably be going between 25-30th at best IMO. If we've learned anything, it's that you can have 5 star players up and down and a poor coach will not do well with them.

I have heard from some prognosticators that they say we are already in the tournament. This is likely based on our 3 and 1 record against the top two teams in the Big East Marquette and Villanova. That said against the three teams tied for last place in the conference, DePaul, Providence and Butler we are 1 and 5.

With that considered and with us now sitting at 8 and 9 I believe we have more work to do before putting us in the tournament. Although I could be wrong, I personally have never felt that 8 and 10 in conference in a down year for the Big East was tournament worthy. I think beating Xavier next Saturday is critical for us, although I think it will be difficult to do based on the matchup and the way we are currently playing. Unfortunately we are just not playing all that well and it is a bad road matchup against a team that has beaten us eight straight times. If we don't beat them, then we could very likely see them again in the first round of the Big East Tournament. That is not a pleasant thought either.

In the end I hope we finish the season strongly, but as of today I would say we have performed below my expectations coming in to the season. Here is hoping we turn it around with a victory against Xavier and make a nice run in the Big East Tournament that puts us solidly in the big dance.

We are going to be in the 60's in the NET now. We already dropped to a 10 seed after the last loss. Now we are surely on the bubble. DePaul is still DePaul. We are back to under .500 in conference. Rebuilding teams and new coaches are doing better than us.

I believe we need one more win to dance. Do not see it happening against Xavier. Our fate hinges on who we play in the BET. If it is one of the teams with a good big we are probably headed to the NIT.

If we lose to Xavier we will almost certainly matchup against them or Georgetown in the first round of the Big East tournament. I think any other matchup is unlikely. Either way we will have to deal with a difficult inside matchup.

I am sorry to say i disagree. If we finish 8-10 in BE and win only 1 BET game then we are out. Not sure how 8-10 in conference is enough

You're probably right, and that right there is some bs. Atleast shake up the coaching staff.
Otherwise it's 4 years of nothing, and still no coaching staff??? Then on May 1st I'll call for him to step the hell down. I'm sick of him not budging, after a nothing year.
Gotta keep him because he's the icon, even though we do nothing with him as coach "IF" we don't make it this year, even if we back in, that's not good enough. Atleast win one more game before selection Sunday, if not and we some how make it, then that's not good enough, then atleast win one in the ncaa tourny or bust.
as i said in my post we will win tomorrow! Not worried!
Are you worried now?

YEP!

8-10 in the big east they are not getting in. 9-9 is on the bubble. Looking like they have to win the BET.

I think Mullin will resign on his own. Ewing is working his ass off on recruiting, GT will keep getting better and better. Mullin doesn't recruit , this was supposed to be "the Year". Mullin knows if he stays he will be Ewings "bitch".

That would be an honorable thing to do, but when extra millions in the bank are involved, it's tough to hope for/expect him to give that up.

If we don't make it this season, I find it hard to believe he'd make it next season with a less talented roster.

If no bid this year? Then hopefully Chris steps down.
Here are some hot coaching candidates:

Let me start by saying even if SJU doesn't make NCAA's I don't see him getting fired or quitting. At this point the best we can hope for is that the staff get's over-hauled and there is a new re-commitment to the type of recruiting we expected when he was hired 4 years ago.

But one guy is going to start getting looks and it is someone SJU is familiar with since it is the best non-conference win they have this year, Mike Rhoades of VCU. Did a 1 year rebuild after Will Wade left for LSU but they are clearly the best team in A-10. Considering Smart ended up at Texas, Wade at LSU 2 years later, if Rhoades keeps this up he won't be at VCU much longer.

If they cant make it this year with this talent and with Ponds, there is no hope going forward.

Lavin sucked as a coach but he knew his deficiencies and hired good assistants. If he had hired Whitesell a year earlier he might still be here.

Not sure who the next guy will be. I guess Billy Donovan is locked up with Oklahoma City. Musselman will go UCLA if anywhere. Hoiberg might be a longshot

Whether SJU gets a bid or not Cragg has to sit down with Mullin and get an answer to "After hiring Slice who would have been an aid in bench coaching and recruitment at the high school level, when that blows up you replace him with someone useless at both. What made you make a 180 degree flip in that thinking and why has this gone on for almost four years?

This.

Chris took a wrong turn 3 years ago with the staff and recruiting strategy after the Slice thing blew up. He needs to fix that. And no we don't have to revisit Mike RIce. But it needs to be addressed. The current staff and recruiting strategy is not working.
