If we don't get a bid?
Playing a zone would mitigate our foul and manpower issues.
As far as the officiating is concerned, our AD has to counsel Mullin on his behavior, while also making it a priority to raise the biased or incompetent referee complaint with the commissioner and director of officiating. It's not our most pressing problem, but the referee issue is legitimate.
I do not believe our staff can teach an effective zone. The times I've seen us play zone we have not looked good.
If we are being targeted by refs, what can we actually do? Mullin won't stop acting the way he does, and it's not like refs will suddenly forgive him even if he did. The pettiness of the refs may haunt us for years. Hopefully they just suck in general and there isn't a vendetta. I don't pay much attention to the refs in other BE games, so maybe I should start.
I have a feeling our struggles with officials ended at DePaul.

Yeah, I understand Chris keeps feuding with the refs to protect his players, but if it begins costing us games then that's a major problem. The players are also at fault since they are the ones fouling and getting inexcusable techs.

CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES!

Good point. There are reasons Boeheim's zone and before that Chaney had Temple had great success with zone defenses. They were masters at teaching it. Boeheim recruited the type of length necessary for the zone he utilized. That's why coaching and playing require different skill sets.

My prediction:

We lose at Xavier. Board goes into chaos. Next we lose the first round of the BET despite being favored to win. Board descends into further chaos. Half the board says we won't get a bid, while the other half claims they don't want a bid since we played so poorly. We get a bid anyways, but end up in Dayton. We then win the play in game vs a good mid major like Lipscomb. Board erupts and predicts a Final Four appearance. Then we get blown out next round of the NCAAT. Board wants Mullin fired.

But wait the board never descends into chaos after a loss ;)

Regardless of a bid we enjoyed our team. I have resolved not to add to any chaos. All of you provided me with endless hours of distraction from my troubles. I think of all of you as brothers, young and old.

Be you. Do what you do. If folks can't handle your dialogue, then they should attempt to logically combat or disprove your points. Or, simply ignore or not post at all.

I am being me. I no longer seek to engage in arguments the may upset my fellow fans. That I contributed to Beast's or anyone else getting upset was disappointing. I am going through a very difficult time that has drained me emotionally. These are kids playing a game and nothing more. While I enjoyed the back and forth in the past it now only brings a negative affect on me and others.

I gotcha! Understandable. Hope for the best, dude.

I find it difficult to believe StJohns is in the Tournament if it loses to Xavier and the first game of the BET.

Me too, Otis. And I'd agree with that fate as well should it happen. These last 2 games should have been played like there's no tomorrow.

FWIW jerry Palm is the CBS bracket guy and he’s always been very generous to big east teams in his brackets.

On the other hand Fox’s guy Howie Schwab, who boasts that he’s a proud SJU alum on his twitter. Has us as one of the last teams in, playing in the play in games. There’s just no telling what’s gonna happen

thank you for your thoughtful post
I wish you well as you endure

I would like to keep this board as a lighthearted and "fun" proposition sans contention, hostility and rudeness. Maybe the moderators can create a companion "nasty board" lol
Sometimes it takes suffering or heartache to bring our minds back to a better focus.
This is only college basketball.'
These are after all only kids.
The coaches are doing the best they presently can.

In a few months we will forget all (at least most) of the frustrations of this season (do any of us recall - in an intense not vague emotional manner - the misfortunes of any prior season?)

Hope the team wins - of course. Beat X. Win a BE game. Make the NCAA. But of course our lives outside of basketball = much more important. This is a diversion not life.
All the best and you have my blessings as you deal with what faces you my friend.

Ralph Waldo Emerson -
Life is too short to waste in critic peep or cynic bark, quarrel or reprimand.
