You have it completely wrong (there's a first time for everything, I guess). The Lakers do not want Hurley for the purpose of having him coach LeBron. That will be a year, maybe two at most. They want Hurley to build the team that comes AFTER LeBron. That's the sales pitch - not just the money, but the opportunity to build a team how he wants, with the resources to do it, and compete at the highest level of the game. And it's a pretty good pitch.
I think it's a roll of the dice about whether it goes well or implodes if he goes that way. And I think the Thibs references are completely misguided for the same reasons as Logen - Thibs has a roster of very specific personality types that were acquired to mesh with his approach, and it is not easy to find those players in the league generally. Look at it this way - what high level talents around the league that might put the Knicks over the top seem like good fits for Thibs and the Knicks? After Jimmy Butler and Giannis - neither of whom is especially available - it gets very hard to come up with names.
I do not agree with Logen about the remainder of his opinion about LeBron, but as he said, opinions on that can vary.
