That definitely does not sound right on attendance either before or after the Mullin era. I’ve had season tickets for at least the last 20 years and have regularly been going to games at the Garden for the past 25 years. I can attest that following the Jarvis era, other than games against Syracuse, Duke and UConn, MSG was typically half empty and sometimes far worse than that.
The first game I looked up for that year was Georgetown and it said the attendance was 17,800. I mean, come on. LOL

If you’re not going to believe what you read, what’s the point of asking for sources?

Look up St.John’s edu.com, April 15, 2019: Home Court Advantage: Men’s Basketball Sees Attendance Boost.

All Garden games were 16,498 and the Big East games were over 18,000. You’ve forgotten the excitement generated around the program in Mullin’s last year.

This may be totally off so please correct if I'm wrong, but I read that Cragg/St. John's gave out a lot of free tickets during Mullin's final season to create excitement in hopes that people would return. I know they give out some tickets every year (such as to veterans) but the number in 2019 would've been outside the norm. Again, correct me if I'm wrong because I forgot the source.

True unless thousands of 6th graders bought their own tickets for $80 a pop and traveled to the Garden by themselves. 🤪

Excellent point.

Also some other notes on attendance that year:
> Our BE games at MSG averaged 18,102
> All MSG games were on the weekend
the gamete had a decent amount to do with it aside from us not being horrible. Win and they will come

This would be a great idea. I’m one of those people, I’m tall and just find it too uncomfortable to go to games there, so probably only make it to one or two. And I’ll give tickets away to friends if they want them, but don’t have time for the hassle of StubHub or even trying to give them away on here sometimes. I think there are a lot of people in that position. If I could just donate them back would happily do it.
I've had season tix for since I don't even remember and my 114 crew will verify I had no patience to even try to resell carnesseca. Was a tax loss until last year when I started going again to campus

When I looked earlier in the year, the ncaa net website it was listing MSG, CA, and UBS as home games. I think that makes sense since these are included in season tickets.
I don’t know. UBS is probably closer to Hofstra than it is to St. John’s. I don’t see what the point of this is if isn’t a “neutral court” game.

My point was more if it’s not considered a neutral court game, play it on campus. There’s nothing to gain here winning at UBS versus winning at Carnesecca. In the eyes of any NET or the like rankings.
Agree 100%.

Seems this is only because Pitino didn't want to play at CA, and apparently when he came on board he was making decisions based on his name and future hopes and not current reality.

While I'm excited to go while we're in NY (and sit behind mjmaher), I'd much rather be at CA packed house then what I'm expecting will be a 1/3 full arena. That DePaul weeknight game will be brutal unless we go on a winning streak by then

I suspect that Hofstra will be motivated and well-organized to play against us. If the team has a post-UConn hangover, they may well find themselves in a dogfight and could even come up on the wrong end of it, especially in an essentially neutral-court atmosphere.

SJU defense has seemingly turned a corner since Fordham and in the two big east games we have held all 3 opponents to a combined 11/57 from deep. I think they'll be focused and ready to bury Hofstra.

Not worried as much about Hofstra (although they were competitive at Duke) as I am with Butler.
I don’t agree that the D has turned a corner. I believe that the match up zone has added a wrinkle in the defensive strategy against a poor shooting Yukon team and an overmatched Fordham. I guess we will find out over the next few Big East games. Hope you’re right about the D.

I said "seemingly". Obviously time will tell, but the last 3 games they have looked night and day from the start of the season. And I don't care about Butler Until Saturday at 4pm. This team can't look ahead. Hofstra has two really good players in Thomas and Dubar, All conference type players. Luis' defense will help given his size and length. Keep building confidence
