Hire Mike Rice

Ah, another example of your "Good Will Hunting intelligence"; as in "I can't learn anything from you I can't read in some book." To people with a modicum of real intelligence the term "good" is relative. But don't let common sense get in the way of your inane, boring drivel.

Except for The Town and the wildly underrated Changing Lanes I'm not a big Ben Affleck Fan and so have never seen Good Will Hunting but no doubt your timely reference to a now 20 year old movie was spot on. Despite not having not seen it I can't believe LA Confidential didn't win best picture in 97, I mean Kim Bassinger, come on.

And if throwing a basketball even remotely qualifies as assault you are even less intelligent than I picture and you prove post after post.

I'm at something of a disadvantage, having never pictured you. However, according to my reading under NJ law throwing a basketball at someone's head definitely remotely qualifies as assault

"A person is guilty of assault if he ... attempts to cause ... bodily injury to another"

(New Jersey 2C Criminal Code)

and that's probably a hate crime as well, if while you're attempting to cause bodily injury you call the victim a faggot.

Let's see

2C:16-1. Bias Intimidation.

a.Bias Intimidation. A person is guilty of the crime of bias intimidation if he commits ... an offense specified in chapters 11 through 18 of Title 2C ... with a purpose to intimidate an individual ... because of ... sexual orientation, gender identity or expression"

So to recap: you've convinced me that Mike Rice has committed various felonies and should be in prison and St John's should be ashamed if they hire him.

This thread makes me nostalgic for the days when coaches were men who inspired their players who then went on to be great coaches themselves. ;)
This clip is one of my all time favorites that starred Bobby Knight with minor roles by Gene Keady, Steve Alford and Keith Smart.

asked my wife about it today and she said she never had a mean nun. Cenacle, Presentation, St. Francis Prep, St Johns.

Nuns took out all their frustrations on boys. Girls were spared. Of course you and others here are from a younger generation that missed traditional Catholic schooling and discipline. ;)

I foresee an onslaught of tequila posts coming our way.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TEQUILA!!!!!!

Allow me to share my recipe for tequila rolls: drive to the southern most part of Texas near the Rio Grande and park near the wall Donald Trump promised to build during the presidential campaign. Scale the wall and proceed to El Liquor Store (Bodegas Alianza La Tolana, 8.1 Av. Colonia Del Valle 403) - the best liquor store in MexCity, trust me - and purchase several bottles of Casa Dragones Tequila Joven, which for my pesos is the best tequila around. Return to the border, scale the wall and drive back from whence you came, stopping on the way at La Boulangerie Lopez in Park Slope (647 5th Ave, btwn 18th & 19th St.), which although having a French name with Spanish overtones makes the best bread in all five boroughs, the best Jerry, the best. Also stop and get some Belevedere vodka, just on general principles. Once home take the bread and soak it in a mixture of three parts Miracle Whip and shuck a dozen Bluepoint oysters, discarding the flesh and reserving the oyster liquor. Drink several shots of tequila and throw a basketball at Mike Rice's head, all the while implying that he is attracted to tumescent male organs. Make a Bearnaise sauce and throw that at Mike Rice as well. Make some rice and throw it at someone called Bernice. Do several more shots of tequila and watch reruns of The Jeffersons until Ester Rolle is slathered in mayonnaise. Purchase a used copy of Gigli on Ebay using the buy it now function, discard the remaining Miracle Whip, and serve the worms slightly chilled over greens, salt and pepper to taste.

I'm not at all convinced that Rice is a good coach or could help the team more than what we already have.

But we are recruiting basically his whole aau squad. So if he can help us land some talent ...then his hiring will be worth it.

Then you must be the person to ask, what besides skill development (that he could do as a special assistantand a HOF jacket does Mitch bring to the bench. Seems like a likable guy but there's only 3 assistant roles and they should be directly involved and considerable assets in the things only they are allowed to do which is full team X's and O's on the bench and in practice and recruiting.

I agree entirely. I dont think asst coaches are all that valuable to begin with. But the few who are can either bring you recruits you need , or are exceptionally talented at teaching basketball (like maybe Dunlap). The rest are mostly indistinguishable.

Mitch doesn't seem to be among that class that clearly contributes in a major way to the program. Matt A definitely has a niche. For better or worse Mullin seems to trust St Jean to game plan.

Idk what Mitch does. But if Rice can get us a few recruits over the next few years ...he's automatically more valuable in my eyes than 99% of assistant coaches.

Whether I would hire him though is a different question and I'm frankly not sure. I lean towards no. But I've never spoken to any of his players or his former bosses etc.

The current recruiting pitch is Mullin + Mitch... Whether Mullin alone is good enough for recruiting, who knows. I have no opinion on that. That notwithstanding, we have great recruiting momentum right now. Why risk it? Additionally, at minimum Mitch has to be teaching the youngsters, along with Mullin, how to shoot - at a bare minimum... Mitch stays for as long as he wants, and as long as recruiting is going well.

As far as adding Rice... - I'm not opposed to it. I have no opinion on it.. If Mullin wants to add him, who would leave. It's a very hard decision.

Good Will Hunting was really good. Really liked the Town and Argo. I also like that movie with the preppy anti Semitic football players that were mean to Brendan Fraser and of course Ben's best movie Dazed and Confused. I also must admit to the guilty pleasure of watching Armageddon whenever I happen upon it while flipping channels. All of his other movies have stunk.Ben has had a weird career

I liked Dogma just for the sheer ridiculousness of it.

Chasing Amy wasn't bad. Mallrats was ok too. Forgot about the Kevin Smith / Affleck movies

Agree 100%. I had old frustrated, even some weird St. Joseph's nuns. Thank God for the Marist Brothers.

And luckily for him he wasn't in Tusk or Yoga Hosers.

If there was real movement on Rice, though, you would be one of a handful of posters who would know in advance. Therefore, you already knew there would be nothing here and you are complaining for the sake of complaining.
