Like I said, all great teams have assistant head coaches that have Assistant and HC experience, are experienced tacticians, and have run programs. Right now we don't have one. We have a good staff in place, especially recruiting-wise with Matt and a good basketball mind in Mullin, but little besides St. Jean, a pretty green assistant, with regards to actual college coaching experience.

Rice can help at all facets. Naclerio just today said Rice will be hired by SJU. He's a good fit. Will get us more organized and our guys defending.

. Mike Rice is a very active coach. That will not happen. I still expect St. Jean to be helping with coaching duties as well. Assistant coaches are actually very important. It's like saying in football, that the fans get too wrapped up with the offensive or defensive coordinator. Too important to dismiss.

Read Scotty Lewis recent interview. He has a lot of nice things to say about Rice. I agree w MCNPA. When analyzing pros and cons , the Rice hire seems like it should be obvious. Mullin and Mitch had no coaching exp. Matt is essentially a recruiter and St. Jean is a youngster. Rice is very knowledgable, can coach and recruit and the price is right, which is important , due to the Slice buyout. IMO, this will be a win, win scenario.

Have no fear, if that happens Rice will just verbally berate St. Jean and throw some basketballs at him and will be drawing up the plays. Just joking of course as I am fully on board with this hiring and hope it happens. Biggest question in my mind will be the chemistry of the staff given the track record of the Slice fiasco, but I think it will work.

While I don't read other boards, I highly doubt that this fan base gets any more caught up than any other fan base desperate for a winning program. And, winning will eliminate most of the fan's concerns about who does what on the staff.

While I don't read other boards, I highly doubt that this fan base gets any more caught up than any other fan base desperate for a winning program. And, winning will eliminate most of the fan's concerns about who does what on the staff.

Shockingly enough, this board is pretty reasonable when it comes to temperament compared to other boards I've seen. But when we go off the deep end, we really take a big leap. :lol:

The big issue will be the day he gets hired. There will be some very vocal opponents of it.

I have no beef with St.Jean. He was given an opportunity here and, by all accounts, has been super dedicated. Learning more from Rice is another great opportunity for him to develop. I am sure he has aspirations and he might just see this as an opportunity for growth.

We've had posters who've quit the board after a firing/hiring that they've disagreed with. I personally think that's very weird.

There were a slew of new "fans"(posters) who all of a sudden appeared when both Norm and Lavin were hired, and then disappeared when they were thankfully fired. They weren't ever real fans, but IMO fans/friends/family of the coach.

One question: if we hire Rice as an assistant coach, who gets demoted? You can only have three asst. coaches.
