Heron

Is this directed toward me? If so, you clearly don't know how to read.
Not good.
For his sake, more than ours.
Who cares about a gaggle of diehard old men fans.
That’s not a question, it’s a statement.
His career is on the line.
Dunno, but I hope the guy who said ‘strengthen the muscles’ is a world-famed plastic / neuro surgeon who worked on Marilyn Monroe.
You young guys remember her?
Rhonda Fleming?
Ann Margaret?
Jill-Yeah-St,. John.
Ahh, never mind.
Let’s go Mustapha!
old versus young
Can the moderators please require posters to list their age next to their respective avatars - difficult for me to keep track of whose under 30, who's over 70...so we can discern who has life experience and who just "makes stuff up"
whatever lol
And Knight/MBaldi - schmendinitis???
no levity please this is a very serious board...lol
I hadn't been attentive to the numbers that Heron had been putting up (clearly very nice), but did notice his absence in the first Providence loss as being key to even how we were getting crushed on the boards despite Keita getting more minutes than usual.

Heron may not at this point be the sure fire first round pick we expected to see this season, but he clearly can score in bunches at times, is a strong physical presence, a good rebounder and defender. That we won without him against a well coached SH team is a testimony to our growth.

Blessing in disguise is how well Edgerton played when dusted off and inserted. We must just go 9 deep come tourney time, with Roberts, Keita, Williams, and Edgerton being of value.

Hope Heron recovers soon. I think these calls are to space out stress on his knee. We don't play until Thursday, then Sunday, then 6 days later. If we can nurse his recovery, we may just dance. Kudos to Mullin for sticking with a lineup with Williams and Edgerton for an extended time in the first half even as Seton Hall bit into the 20 point lead. Additionally it appears to me that Roberts is a very quick jumper who can block anything put up in the paint. Both Keita and Roberts get nearly every layup they shoot blocked, but they bring value when on the court - Keita with surprise mid range buckets on Saturday.
Whose this guy Edgerton you keep talking about?

Earlington - close enough for government work. :)
Sounds like Heron is playing Thursday.
That would be great. It would be really nice to get this win and ease some of the pressure. Most important to me at this point is getting in the tournament without going to Dayton and Heron being able to go in the NCAA’s.

PRESS RELEASE

The SJU athletics department has announced plans to provide an update on Mustapha Heron on Thursday, February 28 @ 6:25 pm. :p
Maybe he'll pull a "Willis Reed" move
Willis only needed that one game. We need Heron for the tourneys.
Yes provided he is 100 % ,if he is 50% he doesn’t help our cause
Not that this is determinative, but my recollection is that he played very well the first game back after the last time he was out.

Zagoria
.@Kingheron5 won’t play tonight for @StJohnsBBall. Plans to play vs. DePaul.

Zach: “School is listing him as a game time decision still. But I’d trust Zagoria here”

No Heron, no chance unfortunately. We lost 3-4 games this year because we had injured starters. It's almost an automatic loss regardless of who you play, home or away when we have one sit out. Doesn't seem like that's the case with anyone else. Can't get on any kind of hot streak when everyone's gimpy...certainly not in any tourney.

Automatic loss?

I must have missed Saturday's game. Or the Creighton away game, when Simon went out early. Or the Marquette away game, without Trimble (a key reserve).

Unnecessarily negative. SHU is better than Xavier, plus we are at our real home court. Keys are that Clark and Figgy be productive offensively, Ponds is Ponds, and the top four stay out of serious foul trouble. A real chance for others besides the top 4 starters to earn stripes, which is what detractors have been clamoring for all season.

You argued with me for saying it’s a tough matchup. You said there’s no reason we should lose this game, and now you’re giving up cause Heron is out?

Thank you for making it more and more clear that not only did you not watch the seton hall game, you didn’t even look at the recap or box score either. We just won without Mustapha. This game was always gonna be a tough one and will be tougher now, but they also have two players who get minutes not playing. They will play 7 guys but probably the same 5 for most the game. We can still win this

We can definitely still win, but taking Heron out is huge. Without Heron they will just double Ponds and make other players beat us. That's the recipe for our losses. Saving grace is that X's defense sucks but we will see. Clark and Ponds need to be able to have great shooting nights if we are to win this.

Ugh...

Well, just like the Seton Hall game we'll still be favored. Also... I guess if we lose we'll have an excuse, so the board won't completely melt down.

Just go out and win. Line is still at 5.

You're a passionate fan no question, but these are the types of post that sometimes drive posters here crazy.

Maybe Heron surprises us after all. If not, let’s win at raucous CA without him.
