Heron

Stating the obvious, but more minutes for Trimble, Robert, Keita, Earlington, WIlliams do not come close to making up for the loss of Heron.

Simply put, we must be at full strength to be a first tier Big East team.

Without Ponds or Heron we aren't even an NIT team. We will need both guys at 100%.
This may be a loss that does us a lot of good. It provided minutes for the end of the rotation. It will likely inspire a win @ Depaul (if Heron plays). And I'll take a true beating under the glass over a close loss any day of the week with this group. Rebounding needs to be the focus.

At this point in the season this is the only thread relevant to me. Even if we sneak into the NCAA tournament, we have virtually no chance to get that elusive win without Heron.

Unnecessarily negative! Joking of course, you're correct.

Only positive out of today's game was the fact that Heron was back and played very limited minutes so hopefully he didn't exacerbate his knee tendinitis. The bad news is Paultzman alluded to something going on with Heron beyond his injury and foul trouble but i don't know what he may be referring to.

I initially heard Heron would move on, but the way his season has unfolded has given me pause. Neither option would surprise me.

Interesting. Wonder what the scholarship situation would look like if he decides to return.

You really need to see how roster shakes out. In this instant gratification era, fallout is a constant in most programs often with surprises. In any event, I am hard pressed to imagine next year’s group will be as good as this one, but let’s see how things evolve. Hopefully we finish on an uptick which effects going forward imo.

With Chronic injury issues, he needs to get paid while he can. Always felt he was a one year rental.

Wondering if maybe Heron is considering off season surgery? Seems like there's a 4-6 month recovery timetable for arthroscopic surgery. I would think if he plans on having a basketball career on any level, this might be a worthy consideration.

Again, I have no doubt that the plan was for Heron to come here for a year, play well, and then get drafted. That hasn’t happened. The injury sealed his fate.

It makes no sense for Heron to leave early. First, this is a STACKED SG/SF draft. Second, he is a legit late first round pick next year with improvement and good health—teams want kids in his prospect range to be finished products. Third, a degree can help him more than most since he has the resume to be a coach or announcer. Fourth, St. John’s would cover any treatment and rehab be would need to be 100%.

Lucky for us the new rules allow him to hire an agent and go through the process. He will not get an invite to the combine.

Gun to my head I think Heron doesn’t get a combine invite and returns and Ponds gets an invite but goes undrafted.

I’m big Heron fan so I’d be pumped for him to come back and hand off to Nate the following year. If Heron came back I think we will be better next year than this year

Honestly where is he going off this year. Trevon Buiett from Xavier off a 1st team Big East performance last year is toiling in NBA G league on Westchester Knicks.

I like Heron's game a lot but he should get his knee back in shape this summer and lead this team next year.

I think he will play much better without Ponds around too and the ball in his hands more. Enough to work himself into the mock drafts next year.

Arrived in Cincy, but “game time decision”

Would certainly make our pursuit of other recruits interesting. Not sure we would have any more ships without encouraging a xfer
