Head Coaching Changes

Hearing from IU booster in NY/NJ area they want Nate Oates. Willing to pony up cash for big buyout at Bama. Oates seems content in Tuscaloosa.

Sources: UNLV's T.J. Otzelberger is expected to be a primary candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Iowa State.

*** Otzelberger's current buyout is approximately $3 million dollars. per Rothstein
Haven't paid attention to UNLV, but always liked Otzelberger. Thought it was great hire for them at the time.

If they really wanted him, they should have pulled the trigger on Archie sooner. Just as a fan I could tell Oates was special. Pay me a lot of money and connect me with billionaire donors and I still would have noticed he was special.

Indiana has turned into a Pit of rotating Cosches and has used up some guys who did well elsewhere , I. E. Crean and Miller . They made a bad decision when they hired  Kelvin Sampson , who continually ignored Recruiting ethics .. he's a good fit for Houston where he is now ...  IU has a beautiful Campus in Bloomington and is a good school Acadrmically but , they compete against Purdue , Butler, ND , and lately , Illinois , Loyola , Northwestern , , DePaul, plus Michigan , Ohio State for top 100 kids .  Fan Expectstion is like Kentucky and Kansas ,UCLA , Michigan State as they feel they should be top 10 every year . And , Win NCAA Championships .  Crean and Miller won elsewhere and Crean is building a decent program at Georgia but , it all boils down to the Billy and Joe's more than the X's and O's . Miller will resurface someplace else , maybe not this year but , he won't be out of a job long .  Pitino ? Who knows ? Mark Cuban is a IU alum . Enough said ..  $$$$ is not a obstacle at Indiana .

Richard Pitino to New Mexico officially done
Having made several trips to Santa Fe over the past 5 years, while I love Santa Fe, cannot think of a more depressing place the Albuquerque to be.

Rick Pitino: “I’m not a candidate for Indiana or any other job. You could come to me with the greatest job in the world, and I would not consider it.” #ICMBB #iubb

Rick Pitino: “I’m not going anywhere except for retirement, and I’m not looking forward to retirement anytime soon.” #ICMBB

Rick Pitino: “I’ve gotta make amends personally. Professionally, they know what I’m about. We make mistakes and we own up to it.” #ICMBB

I see a little over generalizing of IU and it’s basketball program. As a proud (though unconnected) alum of both schools (SJU B.S.’97, IU J.D. ‘02) I’ve lived through some of the best experiences as a life long St John’s fan, but the current recruit is sold at St John’s by the HC, Garden, NYC, the Big East. IU only has to sell IU, that’s how massive it is in Indiana and their worldwide network of alum (especially in NJ where many wealthy alumni reside). The Big Ten is ridiculous, but when it comes to hoops, no team is as decorated as IU. There is a standard at IU that may seem unreasonable (a laughable assessment by how I and other Redmen supporters read on this page), but IU has 5 NCAA banners and a fan, financial, and political base that dwarfs the schools in our league - including our standard bearer Villanova...
And yes, I expect it to be Brad Stevens coming back to Indiana

I thought the reason Stevens left the college game was because he wasn't interested in the recruiting grind portion of the job. I can't see him going back if that's the case.

I don’t disagree with that thought process back then. Coach Stevens’ wife negotiated his last contract and I think he trades back to college for a record setting contract at IU and the security of Indiana vs a potential rebuild in Boston. Stevens  is Nick Saban in these parts, he’s out there saying no right now, and probably going to get more than Carlisle got in Dallas to take over IU

doesn't make sense that he will leave the NBA at this time of year or that IU will wait until the NBA season is over and miss out on this recruiting period.

Stevens is not leaving Boston and he is not getting fired.

Rumor is IU has two current NCAA Tourney coaches on their radar,. One is Oates and the other is Scott Drew.

Scott Drew makes sense, I suppose. Once he flames out again, he'll realize that he's maxed out at Baylor and it's time to move on to a place that has shown itself capable of winning a championship, even it that was 34 years ago.

=13pxI actually don't think Krystkowiak's a bad coach as far as ex-NBAers go. Wonder what prompted the resignation.

Quick stint for TJ Otzelberger who leaves UNLV after 2 years for Iowa state.

Bad move.  They should have hired Matt
