Roy Williams retiring per every major source. No way it’s an April fools right?

huge news. Arguably the top job in college hoops is open

He clearly wants nothing to do with free transfers /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

That is a stunner.  Can't even begin to think who they would look at it.

I mean I think they will shoot at guys like Jay Wright, Chris Holtmann

Hubert Davis?  Kenny Smith?  Porter Moser?

I agree with the thought that open transfers this year is rather stressful for all coaches and to a lesser extent the players.  Why would a coach like Williams want to go through it at this stage of his career?

Would Wes Miller UNC alum and successful UNC Greensboro HC at least get interview? Probably not, but deserves a move up somewhere

Change DePaul.  Per Goodie Stubblefield is official.  So they are now off the board.  That leaves UNC, Texas Tech and Oklahoma as openings in power conferences.

The DePaul fans are all over Twitter saying that since Stubblefield is a 5 year contract, Leitao is looking at houses that will be available in 2026.  It's absolutely hilarious - they're mostly joking about Leitao being back in 5 years ... but there's also the "but it really could happen" vibe in there.  I have been LOLing all morning.

I can't see Moser at UNC.  They will want someone with UNC connections.  No idea who that will be.

Yeah I don't think he is big enough yet for that job.

Feels like UNC will go with Hubert Davis. I doubt they leave the UNC family and he’s been there for 8 years as an assistant.

It would not surprise me if they went this route, but I expect them to keep it in the UNC family for sure.  Perhaps someone with head coaching experience will jump ahead of Hubert

Goodman saying beard to Texas...

When he left UNLV, after two weeks, he said Texas Tech was a special place and his dream job.

But remember......kids have to stay put /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

Moser definitely can teach D at a blue blood level . . . but he is too much of a cheeseball to get the UNC job.

Would Stevens leave the Celtics for UNC if he didn't leave for Indiana?

Has anyone watched a UNC game this year?  I've seen quite a few, and there were times "Ole Roy" looked like the last place he wanted to be was on the sidelines coaching a game.  Not to mention, there were times it looked like Roy wasn't even aware he was coaching a game or a game was presently being played.  He occasionally reminded of an old ass man in an assistant living home who just took a shit on himself and was waiting for someone to come clean him up.

I felt this (his retirement) was soon coming up.

I could see it if this Celtics season keeps going the way it’s going. But the timing is gonna be off. I think if UNC came to Brad right after the Celtics lose in the first round... it could happen.

but they’ll probably fill the vacancy before then

Very few people replace a legend and do even better.  Roy Williams ha exceeded Dean Smith.

Ironically the same can be said about his replacement at Kansas.  Roy was well on his way to a HOF career at Kansas when he left and arguably Bill Self has bested him there.
