Head Coaching Changes

Two years ago Boynton was mentioned after Hurley and Moser turned SJU down as a possible candidate.  They may have even reach reached out to him.

Being a big time College BB Coach is a tough job .   At the Indiana’s , Kentucky’s , Michigan, UCLA,  L’ville , etc. you better Win and satisfy fans , alums, AD, Presidents , Media every year .  Look at Indiana . It had Crean and then Archie Miller , both with respected Resumes before going to IU. Y.       Yet, the School ate them up and in Archies case pretty quickly .  UCLA has run through more Coaches in the last 20 years than the Jets have losses . Until Beilein , Michigan was the same way .  Even CMA at Missouri and Arkansas was done in by AD, Fans, Alums , etc .   Was he a terrible Coach at either School ? No! But , he didn’t get those teams  to the levels expected .   Now , at St John’s what are the expectations after. a good year that got us to 4 th place in the BE ?    Will that be our Goal for 21-22?  Or , will and should it be better ?  Say top 3 in BE , a semi final BE tourney game and a Win to get us into the Championship game .         How about a win or 2 in the NCAA?   Not a unrealistic goal .     So far , we have 2 elite players in Champ and Posh coming back . Smith will be a valuable scoring addition and shooter .  Earlington , Williams , Wusu will all be counted on for continued contributions .  Needs ? We still don’t know who or what we will have at Center that can fill that hole in our offense and defense .  The incoming kids are Rookies and we don’t know what to expect from them ..  But , I would think all fans are looking at a better Record and finish next season .

Why didn't Geoff McDermott work out at ISU? Should he have hired Bobby Lutz? Seriously Ewing's future at Georgetown is not dependent on Louis Orr.  Clyde Drexler hired George Walker when he was hired at Houston.  Well respected and considered a really good hire.  So what?  His two years were terrible.

But the flip is true.  Roy Williams has former FSU coach Steve Robinson on his staff.  Buzz Williams had for years former DePaul coach Jerry Wainright on his staff.  And neither Roy nor Buzz were NBA coaches with little college experience.  Whatever makes them comfortable.

Here is where I will agree with specifically on Mulliin.  To hire two guys with little to no college recruiting/coaching experience and then combine that with almost NO EFFORT yourself is an absolute recipe for DISASTER.  That is why staff is important. The idea though that there is some magic bullet guy that Woodson needs to hire and if not then he is doomed is nonsense.

In regards to Fred Hoiberg, he had Bobby Lutz and Doc Sadler, two former head coaches on his staff at Iowa State. Howard and Ewing spent time coaching in the NBA. Mullin had 0 coaching experience. Having an experienced coach on the bench is definitely a plus.

What Ewing has done in the past two years is admirable. He has gone through injuries, dismissals, and transfers and still managed to win the Big East tournament this year.

Disagree.  Ewing has recruited well, but except for winning BET on a 4 game stretch, accomplished little at georgetown.

I am about to learn as my youngest daughter and her fiancee are moving to Prospect Heights neighborhood on a street coincidentally named Sterling Place at the end of April!

At the western end of Sterling Place a few blocks past Flatbush Ave is a Key Food (unless it has changed names).  My wife and I's first place together was on the block on the other side of the parking lot wall where Sterling Place changes name to Butler Place.  Loved the Slope in the late 80s.

Mike Vacc;

You can’t make this up: at the meet-and greet for new @FordhamMBB coach Kyle Neptune Father Joseph McShane welcomed Neptune, “ ... the new Fordham FOOTBALL coach.” And you wonder why Fordham can’t get out of its own way.
