Head Coaching Changes

Looking like Kenny Payne to DePaul.  Just working out details with the Knicks.

He's smart and can recruit his butt off.  But DePaul hasn't had a problem getting talent. Just coaching it.  Curious to see who his top lieutenant on the bench will be.

Intriguing hire.  Big East coaches are pretty darn strong 1 to 11

I see Leitao made $1.4m. I imagine they didn’t offer him enough of a bump from his current salary to make it worth his while to deal with recruiting, etc.

Did DePaul's recruits decommit once Leito was fired? I thought I remembered he had a strong class lined up.

Did Hsu get fired too? The new coach might think about retaining him if he's still lingering around.

DePaul has commitments from  two 4 stars and a 3 star. If Hsu was the guy who landed them, figure they'll keep him as long as new head coach doesn't make the kids change their minds.

Other question will be if the new HC and HSU have same philosophy on recruiting tactics.

Well considering Texas has not hid the fact they are going after Chris Beard from fellow B12 school TT not sure that gentleman's agreement exists anymore. said:
They tried to go inside their conference?  Dirty move. I hope the ADs and Presidents had a chat before he was talked to.

Seem to remember some of our fans wanting to go after Jay Wright believe at the time when we ended up with Norm.

I wanted SJU to hire Jay when the hired Jarvis.  You could see from his work at Hofstra that he was an excellent recruiter and coach (though I can't say I thought he would be this good).  Wright's Hofstra teams and Brey's U Delaware teams were like middleweight prize fights for a few years there.

I don't remember discussion of Jay when they hired Norm.  I remember Matt Doherty, Billy Donovan, Rick Pitino being discussed on the board (the last two always are by SJU fans, it seems).

During the 2003-4 season on a trip to Philly to play Nova several boosters approached people close to Jay to gauge interest.  Remember Jay was not rolling then at Nova.  He made it clear he was not leaving.

Also Tim Welsh then at Providence was thought to be a top candidate in 2004.

Pat Kennedy it always seemed someone in the media was always trying to dump him on us in a coaching search. I'm not even sure if he is still alive but in 10 years or whatever he will be mentioned again

Still alive. DePaul should hire him again. He and Hsu might have same coaching philosophy.

He coached for a few years at Pace in the middle of the last decade. I think he got fired. Fired . . . by Pace.

After Norm was fired, Repole offered the job to Donovan personally, even told the school he would pay Donovan's entire salary (and Repole reportedly was going to make him among the 10 highest paid coaches in America, or at least close to it).  IIRC, Donovan told Repole that he would only leave U of F for the NBA (which turned out to be the truth), and that was the end of that.

I always thought (though I can't prove) that Kennedy himself was leaking his "interest" to the New York media. Whether he had genuine interest in the job, or he was just trying to improve his current situation, will likely never be known (at least by the public).

Now that Loyola and OR are out , how about Moser to IU and Mills of OR to DePaul?   Or , is IU waiting for Musselman ?

Honest question, how many CMA recruits are currently on Arkansas roster?

I believe Sills and Henderson are the only  2 players left over from CMA's time there. I could be wrong though. Regardless, phenomenal rebuild by Musselman. He put this elite 8 team together in a little over  a year. He's got to merit strong consideration for national COY.
