Wojo fired

i think we all saw that coming.  The guy recruiter boatloads of talent to Marquette but his teams, while competitive never took off.  His teams also never took on that persona that Wojo had on the court when he was at Duke.  His teams never played with that toughness which I’m surprised about.  I’m sure he will be scooped up by somebody soon enough.

I he doesn't get a head coach spot, I can see him back as an assistant at Duke if Scheyer gets a head coach job.

Hofstra is a perfect spot for Steve DeMeo.

Why are you guys trying to get rid of our Assistant Coaches??? (sarcasm)

Hey I don't bregrudge them for looking for a head coach spot but I do like them where they are.

i figure is Norm could have a coaching tree -Braica to St. Francis, the other guy to Niagara - it's about time Anderson had the same.

Woj's name is already being mentioned in connection with the Utah job
His wife is from Salt Lake City and has a lot of family in the area

Is he being recycled too quickly?

Another name being thrown around for UNLV job is Todd Simon, current coach at Southern Utah, and former top assistant for Dave Rice, at UNLV.

If Moser is going to leave Loyola, Marquette is 90 minutes away. Better gig than De Paul.

Less than 90 minutes if he lives in a northern suburb of Chicago. But, if he can take the DePaul job and keep their recruiting class DePaul might actually be the better job.

Names being mention on the Marquette board

Crean, Archie MIller, Porter Moser, Dennis Gates and Matta

Crean? Again?

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but all these name schools are incredibly stupid for not reaching out to Pitino.

Unless you are getting Matta or Beilein, choice seems obvious to me.

Is Simon too far removed from his high school heyday to have an impact luring recruits there?

Rick pitino has a big buyout apparently. He is not going anywhere

If a big time program wants him, the buyout won't be an obstacle.

Pitino's name being tossed around for UNLV job, too, but the ten million buyout eliminates any chance, even if  he were interested. Latest name  to surface is Jason Kidd.

His coaching success was at Findley Prep, which no longer exists, but he still recruits in Las Vegas.
If UNLV could hire him, with Kevin Kruger, as the associate head coach, that might be a successful and economical choice. The school has serious financial problems, and interest in both UNLV football and basketball has never been lower.

My sense is that inquiries are being made to Pitino's  people. I just think it's too early for him to jump ship and he's letting that be known. I've said from the beginning, he stays 3 years at Iona. I can't see a guy like him, who's been to the mountaintop, not having the urge to get back there one more time before he hangs it up. And unless he thinks he can get there with Iona somehow, I can't see him sticking around long term.

Thats pocket change to a big booster

You have heard of 'drug rehab" where someone spends time rehabilitating themselves and moves back to resume what is hoed to be a normal life; well think of Iona as Piton's "Reputation Rehab" where Pitino spends 2 or 3 seasons rehabilitating his NCAA reputation by demonstrating that he has run a "clean" program and then is hired by a P6  program.
