Harrison suspended rest of the year

This program is bush league

Why the program is bush league?

Easy response.... No accountability and it goes all the way up to Monasch.

The staff has to be held accountable for the 3 ineligible players last season, Nurideen Lindsey, Orlando, D'Angelo. The program is a mess.

I feel like Lavin is getting a free pass for a lot of the stuff.

lavin is getting a free pass because he's light years better than his predecessor. with our without harrison, next season appears to be a lock for us to make the ncaa's. that's allowed him to overcome the polee/lindsey/stith transfers...the pelle/garrett/sampson/bourgault/sanchez eligibility problems...the gathers/derrick wood bailouts...the dunlap defection...the demise of the big east and now the harrison suspension. forget coach's personal problems.

with all this, we're still going to a post season tournament.

LOL i forgot about some of that stuff. I am not trying to argue with anyone here but a lot has gone on here and I just feel like 70% of it could have been avoided.

Good riddance. Get Branch more involved in offense and team may just play better without Harrison's arrogance and
disrespect for the game. Do your research on the basketball leagues overseas cause that could be the only pace to go.
I give Steve Lavin a lot of credit for doing this. It's all about the team and STJ profile and image as well !!

Even though I like Harrison and he is great at clutch time he would be better served going to a mid-major program where he could volume shoot all day long. I've seen him get increasingly agitated when he doesn't get the ball at the end of the game so he can get to 20pts.

The team is playing better with Marco at the 2. That combined with the emergence of Dom will serve us better down the road. We lost the Pitt game on a stagnant offense and D'Lo is the primary reason for that. Also in the Pitt game Jakarr and D'lo were on a 2-on-2 break and D'lo didn't even attempt to pass him the ball, needless to say we didn't convert on that break.

so suspending a player that breaks rules(harrison), and getting rid of a problematic player (lindsey) is not taking accountability and control of your program?
what planet are you living on?

I live on planet Queens. Are you guys really saying that instead of managing egos it is better to just give a player the boot? Obviously the players have a responsibility but you have to at least question the staff. It is their job to be teachers and mentors and help these kids develop. We know that D'Angelos attitude hasn't developed and I am also a little concerned about the development of the players on the court too. Besides Dom, the returning players haven't taken the strides we assumed they would. Eventually it is time to throw out the "We are young" excuse. They have played together for a while now.

Do you know what efforts were made by the coaching staff to mentor and "coach" Harrison on his behavior? It's an unfortunate situation, but to blame the coaches for Harrison's behavior is not fair. Even if the coaches did absolutely nothing to mentor Harrison, he is directly responsible for his own behavior. Having said that, I hope he comes back.
You can hope he comes back.....but his bags are packed!

I commend Lavin for this decision.... a team that is disciplined is a team that wins.

Anyone who puts themselves above the team should not be on the team...

I will not miss the constant selfish play from D'angelo, and the constant looks he gave that indicated he had a God-Complex... I hope it is a lesson to future recruits and the current squad that we don't want you if you have an attitude problem and don't put the team above yourself... this is not the NBA.

Shame on everyone throwing DH under the bus before any official details are released. Kid plays with more passion than any one else on the team. DH is the only player i have seen in this squad actually slap the floor after a run to pump his teammates up. Good riddance? Shame on you.

Anyone think this has any affect on Rysheed Jordan? Before this I felt we were 3 out of 3 for his services, but now the opportunity for him to start from day 1 is there. Losing D'Angelo will hurt, but Jordan could be a great replacement.

Lock to make the tournament next year? What planet are you living on? Have you seen Sanchez play? Do you know Jakaar is coming back? What new young talent is coming in?

To do something at this most important part of the season to get suspended proves enough to me, he's a me first player and NBA teams are not looking for 6'2 off guards who shoot 30-35% from three who can only go right. Next year we have two solid NBA prospects starting so lets be happy about that. He'll realize down the road what an opportunity he wasted here if he indeeds decides to leave, my question for Lavin is does he welcome him back? I'll go into next year with a starting lineup of Branch, Marco Dom, Sampson and Sanchez with Green, Garrett, Gift, Max and Felix off bench and if we get Jordan we are even better.

I would like to see Obekpa added to your mix too. LOL

Look, since we don't know the particulars yet, I'll wait to pass judgment on the severity of his penalty. From a basketball standpoint, does anyone else think its odd that Harrison didn't get more a benching? I mean, his shooting has been horrible for the last 10 games yet he was still playing 30+ minutes per game. Combine that with his off-court behavior, you'd think coach would have sent a more meaningful message by decreasing his playing time as a way to get through to Harrison.

Therefore, I'm wondering if there was one specific incident that led to the season ending suspension. My gut is not that his attitude just accumulated to a point where Lav had enough. I'm betting there was one specific act by DH that led to this point.

Food for thought ....

I've been one his biggest supporters and fans since he arrived on campus. I've tried to overlook what was so obvious because he's a great scorer and a clutch shooter. However, for me the last straw was the Pittsburgh game. At that point it became very obvious he had been doing more harm than good for the team and quite frankly I didn't even want to see him on the court. The body language and attitude over the course of the season are not the type of thing that makes it easy to root for a player. I have no idea what went on behind closed doors, and I'm a little surprised by this, but wouldn't be shocked if he didn't return. I can't blame Lavin for this. He held out for as long as he could and by all accounts gave him chance after chance. Bottom line, Harrison needs to wake up and get over himself. He should be grateful to have the opportunity to go to school for free and play at an esteemed university doing what he loves. Millions of kids would love to be in his position.

per Kieran Lynch Twitter

You knew good news wouldn't last

Unreal.

I don't understand why anyone is shocked by this turn of events. For the past several games, from his body language and selfish play, hoisting up horrific shots, it was quite obvious that this kid was not on the same page as the rest of the team. But then again, it's been that way all year, just magnified with his recent play. The problem here is that many on this site were willing to give this kid a pass cause of his offensive abilities and ignorned his poor attitude. I for one will be glad to see him leave. The fact is we were not winning anyway with his play so let's see how the kids respond as a TEAM without him. If we don't win, we wouldn't have won anyway. He did more harm to his team mates then anything by his selfish play and piss poor attitude.

Wow! You can't make this kinda stuff up. Does someone hate us? LOL

For years I've said there is a black cloud hanging over this program.
Guy looks all season like he does not want to be here. He came in talkin about getting out. He's to good for us. He should have done his best to end the season proper, now it looks bad for him and us. I don't care about him at all, but am concerned about the program. Steve talked aces about the kid, and gave him as mush reign on the court as he could. I was glad the board was starting to drop all the kudos lately he was getting earlier because they were not deserved. His teammates deserve shout out for sticken with him. I hope this does not reflect on program, and Jorden comes.

The program had become bush league but we are clearly working our way out of that category.

Harrision's self-absorption was evident to anyone but a blind man.

I applaud Lavin's move because he pulled the trigger regardless of the consequences for our post-season chances.

I hope that making Harrison accountable for his behavior results in a turn for the better in his life.

Whether or not he could accomplish that here at St John's is a question only Harrison himself can answer.

Let's take it easy. Just because someoen slaps the floor doesn't mean he has more passion than others.

I always like to bring Eli Manning into these arguements. During his first three years people said he would never win a superbowl because he was to lasid back. He didn't wear fire and passion on his sleeve for all to see. Now he is a two time superbowl winner, and everyone praises his laid back, cool demeanor. The same folks who railed gainst it, now claim it is beneficial and is one of the main reasons he is so good in the fourth quarter of close games.

Slap the floor?

And D'Angelo is the only player I saw consistently chuck 25-footers with no regard for an offense. He's also the only player I saw get in the coach's face.

Good riddance.

Just because a player makes a spectacle of himself on the court does not mean that he has more passion than any other player. Did you see Moe making an ass out of himself on the court? Well, Moe is living out what D'Angelo dreams about.

No one player is above the team. If he wanted to go to the NBA, he would've changed his attitude and realized that Lavin is more of a lifeline than a nuisance.

That coaching fraternity is rather tight.

Hate to see this kind of thing happen, but let's be honest, considering some of the knuckleheads Lavs dealt with at UCLA (Baron Davis, Jason Kapono), I'd have to imagine D'Angelo did something particularly noteworthy to get the boot at this point in the season.

Then again, I'm a Normal Dale kind of guy. "My team is on the floor." I hope we can win without him.

Based on our PG play this season, I've always felt there was a possibility for Jordan to start from day 1.

.

No regard for an offense? We don't have an offense. They dribble around doing the weave for a while and then they all chuck. Just D'Angelo is better at chucking than the others. If we had an offensive identity and Harrison was ruining that then you would have a point.
