Harrison suspended rest of the year

I just have to comment on the irony of the thread title and the subsequent content :silly:

Well to be honest I was torn about just merging this into the already existing Harrison thread because inevitably like you pointed out it was just going to snowball into more.

Playing BB for St John's University isn't a right, it is a privilege given to precious few athletes, who receive a free education and get to play in NYC and Madison Square Garden..

While our program has become less than stellar, coinciding with FH'S tenure by the way, it is still a well known brand/franchise. Many great players have played here and contributed to the accumulation of records, both team and individual. Few brought dishonor to the program or school, save the thugs that Jarvis brought on board.

Harrison has been a troubled player from day 1 and a Coach's nightmare, despite his talent, which has been overrated by many here. He's accumulated lots of points mostly because on Lavin's flawed team, he has some offensive skills. Sampson, Harkless being exception to limited skills as they are either Pro or soon to be.

DLO'S attitude would not be tolerated at any school entering the new C7.. it is doubtful , if either Boeheim or Calhoun would tolerate such disrespect of the team's Coaches. Let alone, the petulant public displays of anger, rage, etc.

I believe Harrison has a disorder and is in need of therapy and medication to calm his hostility, just not here.

While he's a good BB Player, he's regressed as the season wore on for whatever reasons.. And, no player is above the team or school, DLO didn't get that .

No Jimmy B or Calhoun would NEVER EVER EVERRRRRRR tolerate that. They just harbor cheaters and criminals instead. A angry look a mohawk or some tattoos is way too much for them

He regressed so much his numbers are identical even better in most cases from his freshman year as well.

Sometimes I wonder.

Come on Moose, you seem connected enough to know Harrison's disruptive behavior went far beyond haircuts and tatoos. And please enough with the numbers. The criticisms against his play are legitimate, as is the praise, he is a good but flawed college player. I guess as the President of the Harrison Fan Club you need to defend him to the end but it seems obvious his suspension was done as much to help him as a person as to punish him as a basketball player. Whether Lavin made the right decision remains to be seen but from all I have heard it was felt that Harrison was wrapped way too tight and needed to understand and deal with that. Not much discussion about that aspect, that maybe it was time to try to help Harrison the person, not the player who could put the ball in the basket. Lavin didn't kick the kid to the curb and that is no small point IMO.

I just did it for you. Great minds...

I am hopeful that he comes out of the suspension and gets back to playing basketball as a teammate and not as 'leader'. Just as a teammate who made some bad decision and now makes a good decision to come back a little humbler for it.

It wasn't long ago Lamont Hamilton made a pretty big mistake and came back a better teammate for it. It does happen.

I think you need to read ALL of my comments on the subject. If posters are criticizing saying he regressed last year its simply not true no matter how you slice it. The numbers are the same if not better and our team record is better. So that argument needs to end there. Yes he is flawed. Yes he will never play in the NBA IMO. However he is still a damn good college player. So if criticisms and praise are both equally accepted what is wrong with some facts to show people are typing before thinking. I have no issue with the suspension. My issue is with how long it is and why it was definitely stated when pretty much every suspension nowadays is indefinitely.

As for my jest comment about Mohawks and Tattoos that is the wrap he's getting here on the boards. The OP said his behavior wouldnt be tolerated at these other schools and I accurately pointed out that was false as most other coaches have harbored much worse than a tight strung player who by the way still has a whopping 1 technical in 2 yrs.

And what exactly do I have to do to you and to others to alleviate these President Of labels. I pretty much rip Lavin every chance I get nowadays. And say I agree with suspending Harrison. Let me know so I can become accepted and not biased anymore.

If you work really hard on being less rational and you blow in the wind like a weathervane more often then you will fit in better. Starting a fan club for an obscure power forward, putting a number after your handle ("3" would be good, I think it's available), or claiming that you go to the same barber as the great-uncle of a girlfriend of a friend of a cousin of one of the players would help, too.

Well I think he clearly regressed regardless of the numbers. First, he clearly hasn't improved which is a regression of sorts. His attitude and actions have been a disruption from Day 1, his shooting numbers are down. I know this may sound weird because he certainly has carried us to some wins but I don't consider him a winning player. Bottom line, he plays selfishly and from my point of view, if that is your attitude play tennis. I respect your opinion, but I vehemently disagree with it. As for the Preident Of comment, I apologize, I was half kidding and meant no disrespect.

Let me wear the President hat again. If we had other guards/players outside of Karr to keep a defense honest his %'s would go up. His FG % is actually up but 3's are down. However for all the new parts we have this year it seems like the same old team from last year in terms or offensive threats. I will use the comparison I made during the Lville game. Is Russ Smith a winning player? Identical stats. I hope this makes Dee a better person and it then translates to the court. I just find it funny last year there were really no issues but this year its magnified. Maybe Dunlap was the secret sauce that kept him in line really.

All good on the President comment. I just think its clear I'm not a fan of where we are right now or where we are headed.

Nor am I; as for harrison, we disagree which is also all good from my perspective. As far as the program, Lavin has been a little unlucky IMO but also has obviously made mistakes. Few thought Harkless would be 1 and done and put he, Sanchez and a healthy Branch and who knows? Obviously, Lavin had no margin for error and he made some; losing Dunlap hurt. We are a very poorly coached team no matter how you cut it and with the possible exception of Pointer, none of the freshmen improved, either in game or court maturity. After the uncertainty of last year with Lavin's illness we needed some stability and got neither with the Sanchez and Harrison situations. Lavin made mistakes in talking up players; I think coach speak to a degree but to a small but extremely rabid, success starved fan base, that has backfired. His substitutions (or lack of) are sometimes mind boggling.
