Harrison suspended rest of the year

I have a habit of reading posts without looking to see who wrote them. Every time I see a Sean Evans mention, I go back to confirm who the poster was. It never fails. The obsession is so weird.

The poster in reference also tends to pass off his opinions as being facts. I also agree about the obsession being weird. Strange.
I do tend to rely on facts, something you eschew regularly. To me you are the guys with the obsession and I'm happy to be the object of it. Now if "on the cusp" Sean manages to grab a contract it will be one last fact that I get to shove so far up your butts you'll need search parties with high forceps to remove it. Something to really looks forward to. Until then enjoy this period of colorectal quietude.

You don't rely on anything other than the figment of your warped imagination. Please! Most folks know what you've spewed on here.

I'm happy for Sean Evans, as I'm sure all St. John's fans are happy for him. But your warped mind has you believing that posters have it out for him. What else should I expect from someone who has made some of the more despicable posts both boards have seen?! The only problem I had with Evans was his propsensity to think he was Magic Johnson and Penny Hardaway. Otherwise, Evans played hard, and was an integral part of the NCAA tournament team from two seasons ago. He's a kid who has represented St. John's well.

Tough pill to swallow for us all. Can our program take significant set backs like this and compete at high levels? We can't seem to catch a break. Seems like its always one step forward and two steps back. Our program has dealt with significant adversity forever it seems. Just can't seem be put the right components together for a sustainable competitive program, and now with is negative press it will probably make it more difficult to attract kids to play at the school. Our the Lavin era unfolds will be interesting to watch. It will either be he pulled us out of e depths of despair into a winning program, or we'll continue to be a struggling mid major program in the same vein as our Vincentian friends at DePaul. No correlation to Vincentian leadership at DePaul and SJU and poorly managed programs are there? And the other thing I am sure we are all thinking about is lavin saying to himself now.. "What the heck did I get myself into"? I know that's what Keady told him when Lavin first told Keady of his desire to go to St Johns. Keady is telling Steve now I told you so, but I am here now and trying to help..

ohhhhhh
so Keady didn't want Lavin to go to STJ

In spite of my lamenting about our tough road, I support coach lavin and his decision, and hope d'angelo the best where ever he lands. I agree Lavin is doing the right thing if his conduct was bad. Just makes for another disappointing campaign between the lines where it matters most.. Lavin is good for school and is a good coach. Whether or not he'll be able to win and get into the NCAA's more often than not... Time will tell.

Dude, I root for Sean to succeed. I am a fan of his---as I am of every kid that puts on the SJU uniform. That group of kids is probably my favorite SJU class of all time due to the effort and hard work they collectively put in and for the dignified way they carried themselves through some difficult times. But you are obsessed. Every post, no matter the topic, goes back to Sean Evans. At some point, one has to question why.

I didn't see this mentioned, so I apologize if I'm repeating anything here, but the Red Storm Report is interesting this week since I believe it's taped on Wednesday when Coach must have known the decision he was going to make the next day. He's talking about how it's important for young guys to light a fire under them at times and give them tough love, emphasizing mindset, approach and basketball habits. He also talks about Sir Dom caring more about the name on the front of his jersey rather than the one on his back. I may be reading too much into it, but I suspect the messages are all related. I'm still watching the Report on my DVR so I'll post any other interesting comments.

Hey guys I wanted to sit back before I posted and read the board. Harrison is one of my favorite players and at first I was upset, but then I thought about it. First off, I think it is good to send a message that this program is bigger than one person. Second off, I think its POSSIBLE we are better without him right now. Lets be honest, he doesn't pass, forces shots, turns the ball over, and doesn't shoot a high percentage -- granted, I think him with a better attitude and letting the game come to him makes us an excellent team, but thats not the case now. In all fairness, we are currently losing a 39% shooter who takes a large chunk of our shots. I think we can shoot at least 39% in those missed shots. I also think now maybe we will actualyl pass and move the ball around and not wait for one guy to do it. Guys come on, we have a ton of talent on this team these kids are high major D1 athletes, I think if Branch is back to form running the offense and taking good shots and getting Marco open looks that fall, we can maybe be a better TEAM for this part of the season. Again, I think we could end up getting crushed the last three games as well, but I won't be shocked if we are better right now.

I agree and hope the team responds. I still want D'Lo back next year if he can figure things out, though.

It's taking me a long time to post since I first saw the announcement on SNY yesterday. It was hard to believe, especially after the Sanchez news. I have always liked the kid even though I shuttered each time D'Lo shook his head to a referee or looked argumentive with the staff. Which makes me curious as to Harrison's behavior in high school; we know his aggressive attitude and poor behaviour didn't start at St. John's.
Here we go again with the posters who belittle his play - can't shoot consistently behind the 3 point line, doesn't score against better competition and out for himself. Well, I'm sorry I like this kid, especially his competitiveness. Don't tell me you wanted the ball in anyone else's hands when we needed a score. I'm not making excuses for this kid's problems but hopefully he returns with a new attitude. And why not?

... As long as we are on the staff, Harrison is just the latest entry in a line of players who they took risks on and didn't work out. Lindsey, Pelle, Polee among others. Sampson, Garrett, Sanchez ended up playing but only after long delays. Hopefully now that there is a base of talent in the program they will start to make more careful recruiting decisions.

This season is over. What is the absolute best we could have hoped for, a first round loss in the NCAA tournament? Next year is the first of many years that we can reasonably expect a lot of success in the tournament. Getting suspended now shows Harrison he is not above the team and will hopefully set up a great ending to his career at STJ. We need this kid more than anyone on the roster, and I trust Coach Lavin completely.

Those of you that want to harp shooting %s, have to realize the difference between a kid like Harrison who HAS to create a lot of his looks and play as the focal point of every defense vs. kids that get open looks and layups/dunks because of the work of others. Producers and consumers. Any shot Harrison takes without a hand in his face is a good shot.

Want the truth? The truth is our season was over before suspending Harrison, and our staff knew it. Had we beaten Pitt, there would have been reason to believe we could beat Providence away and then Marquette at home. With our without Harrison, our chances of a bid are somewhere between astronimical and incalculable.

You must be related to Harrison to think his shot selection was anything but horrible. Even if he was in the schoolyard, less talented teammates would be yelling at him for hositing up shots from far beyond the arc, often without any hope of offensive rebounds. Harrison didn't HAVE to create his own looks, but he basically hung around the perimeter waiting for the ball to come to him, rather than cut hard, flash, and try to receive the ball in position to shoot.

I've been to almost all games, and I don't remember defenses keying on him, or constructing schemes that had him doubled, tailed, or anything like that. You didn't have to do that in the Big East. Just let Harrison hoist up shots, and he'll miss 2 out of 3 on average, and do much worse than that in the Big East.
Did you miss the Gtown games where Dlo was tagged the whole time? It was shades of Wingate and Mullin all the way just like Daddy Thompson did. but with more sophistication by JTIII. From there on you could count the amount of open jumpers he got on two hands going forward. Unfortunately Lavin's offense really revolved around him and you could see the frustration he faced. Yeah he forced some shots but he hit several too and I attribute the whole thing to an ineffective offense running without a PG. He did rebound a lot better during that period and came up with some superior passes which belied the one dimensional accusations I've been hearing. Never once did he enjoy the open shots that guys like Heslip and Woodall had against us. As far as I'm concerned if his infractions didn't involve drugs, academics or some sort of violence he got a royal screwing that should never happen to unpaid players who play as hard as he did. I recall plenty of times Justin Burrell stood around on both ends of the court and nothing ever happened to him except the trumped up 6th man award.that Lavin arranged. That was a guy who cried all night long and set a lousy example for his team. Then you had a guy like Evans who never once questioned a call getting pinned to the bench after a solid three year body of work. Funny how guidance from above only goes one way with no thought to kids who are getting a raw deal under the guise of allegiance to a "System" which did nothing but yield open threes that cost us games. Dunlap finally intervened in his behalf but most of the damage was already done. What I'm seeing is a coach who can't handle his team, can't build a balanced roster and is currently falling on his face acquiring the players we need to get to the next level of performance. Sound familiar to any of you who systematically knocked his predecessor?

Im assuming you were there in Washington and watched the isolations, or have a closed circuit TV hookup in your house. I was there at the Garden, and no such prevent defense was put up by Georgetown. Let's get one thing straight about Sean Evans. He was a great kid, and a beast of a physical specimen, but his basketball skills were non existent. he never boxed out, would try to dribble the ball up the court, and couldn't shoot for sht. The only thing more painful than watching Evans play was listening to you fawn over him like he was your prison cell mate boyfriend.

Agree, warts and all, he was the one who we could count on in crunch time. 1,000 point scorer in two years is great and hard to replace. I assume his suspension was warranted, but let's not say he sucked or won't be missed. Ask other BE coaches.

So Harrison's grandmother is coming to NY to plead his case with Lavin? I could only imagine that if I got suspended for doing the things Harrison did, if my parents or grandparents were coming to NY, I'd ask to be put in the witness protection program for fear of my life.

You think we can now pass and move the ball around, it was Harrison's fault. This won't happen while Greene is playing point. D'lo had no help from staff in getting picks setup for him. Let's face it, he was our offense. We desparately need Branch to run this team and give us the scoring we need even more now.

I obviously don't know all the details but I am sure Lavin made the right decision upon the real facts. I do think that this may help the team in the short term and the long term. Whatever happens in the end I wish the best for Deangelo, whether he stays or not, as I believe he is a good kid at heart.

I'm curious if you know him, have interacted with him, or have friends who are friends with him for you to believe he is a good kid at heart? Maybe it was a throwaway line, because I don't know him, and I don't know if he is a good kid, or one bad decision away from prison. Not sayin that he is, but the whole thing is staritng to bother me.

We have hundreds of posts one day about a basketball suspension - and almost all of us hope for the bet for him. We have a debate about the value to the seem about a guy who has basically sucked all season. On the other hand we have a major scandal continung to unfold at the university, with a dead administrator and horrible allegations against the PResident, and only a handful of alumni are even paying attention.

B.I.N.G.O. If only the useless media other than NYMag covered a much more permeable and destructive story such as Changgate than D-Lo suspension. Why is all the attention on campus among students protesting the University's lack of a funded LGBT org, but not on where their tuition money that produces debt that will bankrupt them when they can't find jobs and the institutional corruption in Newman hall.

Don't know him at all, just rooting for him in a tough time in his life, I think he deserves that much since he did a lot to entertain us while not making a dime in return. I am not stating it's a fact that he's a good kid, it's just my belief based on a few factors. First of all, if he was not a good kid at heart Lavin may have kicked him off the team for good. Secondly, in most of the articles written about him people seem to indicate that he is a good kid at heart who has some emotional issues. Being moody, and even possibly having anger issues does not mean he isn't a good kid. He has to deal with a lot worse stuff than most of us ever had to deal with. I couldn't imagine dealing with a sibling in jail. I think Chris Mullin is a good person at heart despite all of the issues he went through and the mistakes he made and I never heard any rumors of substance abuse from Deangelo. Besides the emotional outbursts the only thing that you ever see written about him that some may give a negative connotation are the tattoos and the haircut . Although I wouldn't chose to do either, that certainly doesn't make him a bad person.

Just to interject a little levity ino this thread and this is meant for Kranmars and those of his ilk.
List of Dlo's bad points:
1) Rotten pool player.
2) Rotten bowler.
3) Doesn't speak French.
"Alright already"! :)

This truely sucks, but I'll choose to look at it as another one of the growing pains we have to endure as a result of having to re-build our program from scratch. I sincerly hope that D'Lo gets his stuff together and either returns to the fold(having bought in to the program), or has a pro career is a productive member of society. If he leaves, I for one will miss him. There was just something about the kid that I really liked.

I know Harrison a bit through my players and he is a very nice guy as he did a community service with them.
Maybe gets too fired up when he steps on basketball court. Might need to work with a sports
psychologist and get back to enjoying the game again. Happens to a lot of fine players. Hope he comes
back next year.
