Harkless Update

Harkless logs 46 minutes in the Magic's double overtime loss, and only takes one shot?

He shot 1-1, and finished with four points in 46 minutes, along with

3 rebounds
1 block
0 steals
1 turnover

In 46 minutes! One could up those numbers in ONE minute.

Hope he comes back with a strong performance next game!

Arguably the oddest stat line I have ever seen.
Kind of hoping he gets flipped somewhere in the off-season.

Um how the hell was Moe 0-6 from the line yesterday. Including an airball.
What is going on with him

Not sure why he is still nervous at this stage of his career. Rookies are showing more confidence than him.

I think it's all mental.

Tobias Harris had a 28 point, 20 rebound game a few weeks ago I believe.

Hoping the best for Moe. Not sure if he'd get more minutes elsewhere (Philly, Charlotte) if he were to be traded.

I'm glad he got his millions though.

He's still young so I think he can get his minutes somewhere in the NBA. All hinges on if they choose to trade him.

That's why I brought up Philly and Charlotte. Orlando is probably the place where he can log the most minutes. But he's not doing much while he's out there.

I hope he gets traded as well. But also hoping that he just doesn't become some journeyman. I think the GMs know he is not your typical journeyman and still has a lot of upside especially for his age.

Moe is not alone.

Otto Porter - Washington Wizards

Suddenly Moe looks a lot better.

Of course there is also Anthony Bennett but he might have had an awakening recently.

@Chris_Turtle21: St. John's alumni @moe_harkless will be playing for Puerto Rico National team!!! #sjubb #Boricua #Loveit

Magic beat the Thunder last night.
They won with a last second dunk, barely beating the buzzer - with just a fraction of a second left in the game.

With the Magic up by 1 late, Durant took a shot with the shot clock expiring - he missed. By the time the rebound caroms way off the rim there is only 4 seconds left in the game. Oladipo gets his hand on the ball with four seconds left - on his own defensive three point line.
Oladipo quickly pushes the ball up. Harkless sprints parallel / a bit ahead of the dribbling Oladipo.
Harkless is the first one down the court.
Oladipo dishes to Harkless down low. The Thunder defender, also running down the court, quickly turns to defend Harkless,
When Harkless receives the pass, he quickly makes a 'one-timer' touch-pass to a trailing Tobias Harris.
Harris dunks it as the game clock expires.
Magic win.

OKC was up 1.

That had to be the shrewdest play and the most ballsy decision of Moe's career to pass that ball.

1. If he goes up with the shot himself, he may easily blow it or he may leave a little time on the clock and
2. If he goes up with the shot himself, he risked being fouled by Lamb. Moe has been a terrible career FT shooter and I could easily see him missing both of them or making one of two which would send it to OT. OKC probably kills them in the OT.

Props to Moe and to the coach for having Moe out there in crunch time and having him out there guarding Durant.

Call me lame but I lost some respect for durant there. Gotta get back on defense. Carmelo would have been crucified.

Terrible play by Durant. There is no explanation for why he walked towards the opposite basket while watching the play unfold. Moe didn't even take off at first either, so there was time to react to the situation.

I don't know what the Bucks were thinking trading Tobias Harris. The kid is still only 20 and looks like a future all-star to me. He has versatility and skill to spare. It sucks for Moe. I like Moe, but Harris just has an exponentially more refined skill set right now. With Harris and Oladipo, i do t think Moe is such a high priority.

Yep... Thunder were up 1. I knew, just had a brain freeze and typed it up wrong.

The Personnel

You can understand the skepticism some of the league feels about the Magic’s path. Maurice Harkless has stagnated in his second year. He is uncertain with the ball, he rarely shoots, and he has not met the organization’s expectations for him on defense. But he’s not yet 21. Tobias Harris has lost his jump shot and remains a tricky lineup fit. He gives up size at power forward, where he thrived last season during Glen Davis’s absence, and has struggled this season at some of the basic things an NBA small forward has to do. He’s a poor long-range shooter and a shaky ball handler, and he has trouble at times tracking quicker wing players scurrying around the floor. The number of post-up threats in the Magic’s core lineups — Nikola Vucevic, Afflalo, Davis — limits Harris’s chances to bully smaller wings down low. “That’s how it goes,” Harris says. “I have to be patient and not complain. I feel like we’re taking steps in the right direction, and I want to do whatever I can to help us win games.”

Would like to see him go to the Celtics. Stevens might have an impact on his development. He looks lost out there right now.

Regardless of the $$$$ involved, which is easy for me to say, MO could have refined his game with a year or 2 more, here at SJU.. it's a nice thought to dream about how far this team could go with Harkless in the line up this season.

Of course, he had to take the money that was there.. No issue at all.

Boston would be no different than Orlando IMO.

Moe needs to be in a situation where he can be mentored by a veteran. In Orlando, it's just a bunch of young kids doing what they think they should be doing. No one there can help him grow.

He needs to be groomed by like a guy who is near the end of their career like a Dirk or a Vince Carter. Someone who can help him think through the game and not be worried about messing up.

The culture in Orlando isn't suited for that.

He needs to go somewhere he can be a priority. They are going to bring in yet another high draft pick and Moe will fall down the ladder even further. Quincy Miller isn't doing so bad in Denver.
