Harkless Update

Everybody that has watched Harkless play knows he is not that good, he has so many weaknesses in his game but the NBA makes it impossible not to enter the draft. Guarenteed money for a first round pick is so stupid. He had to enter the draft. He will probably be out of the league or a journeyman in 5 years. Look at Daniel Orton, drafted first round, 3 teams, 3 years but guaranteed money, he will then make money playing in Europe against inferior competition.

Daniel Orton has played 43 games in his career. Moe started more than that in his first year alone I think

the NBA drafts on potential. what makes you think Mo has no upside left. He only played 1 year. He is only 19 or 20 yrs old.i

He's 20 years old and he would be just a true junior if he stayed--no being left back and/or prepping like most top talents. Generally, I think guys have plenty of upside until they reach their typical senior season. Of course, there are exceptions...plenty of guys get better after that point, tons don't improve that much at all. There will be guys coming out of the 2015 draft as seniors that will go in the first 20 picks. That is when Moe could have been coming out. Think about that for a second before you write this kid off.

Moe will be a very good outside shooter...he has the potential to grow into a monster body...and he has ideal height and length.

What an embarrassing post on so many levels

My memory of Mo at SJU is of his hands. If he touched a rebound it was his and contact to get him to give the ball up almost always was called a foul. That is not teachable and we don't yet know how far it will take him.

It would have been great if Harkless had stayed another year but, from his perspective, the $$$ was there and he took it.

As to whether another year under Lavin would have improved his shooting is questionable. Lavin doesn't have a career long resume of improving Talent from his players.

Let's hope Harkless, who is what 20-21 years old, develops the parts of his game that need more polish.. I'm thinking he's getting better Coaching from Orlando than he would have gotten here..

Agree with you about the $$$, disagree with blaming a coach for any players inability to improve their shot once they reach the college level. By that time bad habits and poor form are ingrained in a player's muscle memory and only by hours and hours and more hours of practice can a player undo that. You can get the proper form technique very easily from books, instructional videos, etc. Very few players improve their shot significantly once they reach the college/pro level. If Harkless is getting such good coaching with the Magic why are his minutes going down? He made a very smart decision monetarily and that is great but from a basketball point of view not so much. But were I his advisor I certainly would have advised him to go if he were a first rounder. Me, I was surprised he was drafted so high and posted that many times as his decision time neared. Obviously, he made the righjt choice; now let's hope for his sake he is managing his money well.

I think people need to realize that Moe walked into a perfect situation last year. He was one of the youngest players in the NBA. He was drafted a month after his 19th birthday. This year, the Magic went out and spent the #2 draft pick on a 2G. Then they went out and got Davis and Maxiel to further clog things up at the F position. That was going to squeeze Moe's minutes. Any team that takes a kid with a #2 pick--especially an NBA-ready college junior--is going to stick with that player for better or worse for at least a few years. It's kind of crazy, but Moe is just over a year younger than Oladipo. Afflalo is a tough veteran to be competing for minutes against. The guy produces everywhere he goes. Look at his stats when he first started, though. He only averaged 8.8 ppg in his third year in the league as a 24 year old. Now he's up to 22 ppg. He's gone up every single season since he averaged 3.7 ppg as a 22 year old rookie.

Harris is going to make it tough on Moe once he returns, because I think he will be a great pro and he is further along in his skill development. The Magic need to make a decision regarding Moe. Afflalo is just a bandaid. When Harris returns, they should play the young guys (Harris, Harkless, Nicholson) and either trade or sit Afflalo. If not, they should trade Harkless (or Harris). I am sure there are plenty of teams that would be happy to have Harkless starting at SF. I mean, the Magic are going nowhere this year (and probbably next) and Afflalo is already 28 and currently leading the team (by a lot) with 37 minutes played per game.

Moe has the skills...he just has to refine them. He's shooting 39% from three on two attempts per game, but is shooting just over 50% from the FT line for the second year in a row. He will be a very good shooter. His has beast potential.

Going to see Moe tonight. Was he hurt last game? Only 8 minutes in a 2OT game according to the box score.

He had a good game. Final stats against the Clippers.
7-13 from the field; 2-4 from three point line, 6-6 from free throw line, for 22 points. 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist.

hopefully he continues to get the green light.

Watching the Mavs-Magic game. The Magic started Moe and had him guarding Dirk

Dirk held to just 15 points, but Magic got hammered.
Moe led all players with a season-high of 40 minutes. 13 pts 7 boards 3 assists 2 steals.

Harkless logs 46 minutes in the Magic's double overtime loss, and only takes one shot?

He shot 1-1, and finished with four points in 46 minutes, along with

3 rebounds
1 block
0 steals
1 turnover

In 46 minutes! One could up those numbers in ONE minute.

Hope he comes back with a strong performance next game!
