The hype leading up to this season is going to be insane. We're fortunate that the year we get our biggest transfer (ever?) is the same year that the NCAA has decided to ease up on the transfer rules.
So the question is, would Heron be the best transfer in the NCAA this year? The best transfer in SJU history?
I took a look at this:

And this (they say he would've been second):

So, I admit I am just looking at quick stats and don't know much about these players (such as defense), but I think you could make the case for Heron being anywhere from #1-4 for all transfers this upcoming year. Considering there are something like 700-900 transfers each year, that is incredible.
Without giving it too much thought, I'd say our biggest transfer ever was Reggie Carter, from Univ. of Hawaii, who was a heralded start at L.I. Lutheran. His transfer home was somewhat of a trifecta, with his younger hs teammate, the intensely recruited Wayne McKoy choosing St. John's, and transfer Bernard Rencher of Brooklyn who left Notre Dame to come home.
Carter was a first round pick of the Knicks, and played several years in the NBA. He graduated St. John's in 1980, went on to become a respected assistant principal, and died tragically young from a heart attack.
Heron is certainly a great get, but he is not nearly as well known around NYC as Carter was, also considering that LI Lutheran was a powerhouse hs team at the time.
All from memory. Apologies if I made any errors
R.i.p. Reggie , one if the classiest kids to ever play here
