Hardship Waivers

I received a little asshat information on how this went down. Take it for what it is worth.

Cragg (dialing): "Hello NCAA, this is Mike Cragg, and I have a question regarding player's eligibility."

NCAA: "Yes Mike of course from Duke, what can we do for one of favorite schools."

Cragg: "Well, I am now working with Saint..."

NCAA (interrupts): "Of course you are working with saints. All Duke basketball players are nothing less. What is his name?"

Cragg: "The student's name is Mustapha Heron."

NCAA: "Congratulations, Heron is cleared. He is a fine young man who will no doubt wear the Duke uniform with dignity.

Cragg: "Wait, that was done rather quickly. Players at Saint..."

NCAA: "No need to stress Heron is a saint. Nothing is too good for our Dookies. And please send our best to Coach K. Goodbye."

End of phone conversation.

Meanwhile, no official announcement on the AD and no actual news on Heron. I'm sure this will drag out for weeks to torture us all until eventually dying on the vine just like everything else with this program. In related news, I'm ready for the weekend.

Awesome get Otis. I was there. Rencher on the line for 1 and 1 ti seal game w 5 seconds. Timeout to freeze him. National tv audience. Fans burst out arena shaking, thunderous "We're number 1" chant. We were number 5 at the time and everyone else lost that week.

Rencher, AN 85% ft shooter clanks it.

Orr ahead of field Carter underneath. Slowww motion. Whistle blows. Time stops. Referee signals block, not charge . Biggest game and loss I can recollect at c.a.
Maybe it's just my perception, but does this consistently happen with other programs? It seems information breaks out and then fans are left to sit on it waiting for official word constantly. Maybe tying up some loose ends with Cragg and Heron waiting for a certain day to announce this week.

I tweeted back and forth with Zach B a few minutes ago. With Cragg he maintains no hiccups and expects announcement today, though he said the same thing yesterday. With Heron he says best sense is nothing has happened beyond "positivity". I asked if Ponds jumped the gun and that was the response. So perhaps hold off on popping the champagne? Not looking to poop on the party, but we should have all learned by now with this program not to celebrate until the ink is dry and there is official word.
Without giving it too much thought, I'd say our biggest transfer ever was Reggie Carter, from Univ. of Hawaii, who was a heralded start at L.I. Lutheran. His transfer home was somewhat of a trifecta, with his younger hs teammate, the intensely recruited Wayne McKoy choosing St. John's, and transfer Bernard Rencher of Brooklyn who left Notre Dame to come home.

Carter was a first round pick of the Knicks, and played several years in the NBA. He graduated St. John's in 1980, went on to become a respected assistant principal, and died tragically young from a heart attack.

Heron is certainly a great get, but he is not nearly as well known around NYC as Carter was, also considering that LI Lutheran was a powerhouse hs team at the time.

All from memory. Apologies if I made any errors

Amen, Beast. (And Reggie's yet another guy whose jersey should be hanging in CA.)

And for what it's worth, designating Walter Berry as a transfer isn't quite accurate. Truth enrolled and took classes at St. John's after graduating high school. Following one year at SJU, he transferred to San Jacinto JC in order to fulfill NCAA academic requirements. After doing so, he "transferred" back to St. John's.

Perhaps the two images ingrained in my memory of Reggie was the image that Otis conjured up of Reggie desperately trying to draw an offensive foul as Orr scored the winning basket, and seeing Reggie at commencement, in his cap and gown like any other student, cap a little awkwardly off center on his head the way many of us looked, and very proud to have graduated on time.

I for one would be for that banner 100%. Great role model in every way for our athletes.

It happens with this program because we have some of the most unstable fans I've ever come across. Fans that aren't patient and do not let things play out. Our fans are always searching, and speculating on news when there isn't any. Ponds should have never posted that! It's not his place, some fans are taking it as gospel! People need to settle down. The #sjubb twitter feed is sometimes unreadable, because its downright embarrassing reading what Grown men say on there.

Why do beat reporters tweet with fans? Well I know fans think they are getting inside scoops, and sometimes they do get some advance information and also a lot of opinion. Beat reporters also are looking for any insights that the staff won't share, and then start rumors off them. Our fans think they are getting great inside info from them and feel like they are important interacting with them. For the most part, many are hacks and I have no use for them.

Back then that was the norm for St. John’s. Very few players today tell the “truth” on what they are doing some even transfer a few weeks after they commit to sit out a year at another school.(Sid Vicious oh I meant Wilson)

Yes, this is why I asked him questions - because I wanted to think I am important. Dude, you literally can't post anything without slipping in an insult. Why? Did I insult you in some way without knowing it? If I did, I apologize.

I agree it is ridiculous on twitter, but it is not specific to st johns fans. There are crazy fans everywhere on twitter, of all sports teams. You want impatient? There are jets fans saying Darnold is a bust on twitter after one bad game. Yes, i have had nightmares of Baker, Josh Allen, and even Rosen all being better than Sam, but the point is there are impatient fans everywhere

The charge call on Reggie was one of the worst ever, one that will forever be etched in our collective memory -- especially coming against Syracuse and on our home court.

As for the addition of more "legacy" players -- something I've been bitching about for years -- maybe our new AD will have a positive outlook on that.

Honestly, it wasn't directed at you. For the most part, except for a very tiny number of users, I respond to the post without considering the author, and instead just respond to the content of the post. Sorry if you feel I insulted you personally on this one, no intent. Just a personal gripe - some beat writer lurk on this board to pick up dirt, and then write about it as fact or original content. It just grates because they write it as if it is an orginal thought and much of it as just banter they pick up from here and other places.

Some colleges with a major athletic programs literally have a wall of fame with dozens if not hundreds of athletes honored with plaques. I've been pushing hard for the school to establish a permanent HOF where such accolades and memorabilia can be permanently displayed in a high tech, top notch "museum" on campus.
