Guys on Matt’s Radar

Tea leaves say Femi visits soon & transfer goal could be a grad big, hopefully Femi, and two sit out transfers.
Two sit out transfers again not, please.
Reading the comments It looks like Diakite, Roberts and Earlington are not going to play much next season.
Which leaves a rotation of 8 serviceable players.
Deja vu all over again.

So, if we can get sit out transfers like Simon and Clark it would really help the following years having a couple of players who can immidiately contribute. We will loose Clark. Grad transfer and some defections.

Well, based on his mixtape at least he will consider a Carnesecca crowd huge.

High steal and rebound numbers for a guard. Good size at 6’4”.
Not sold on this kid. Great stats, but mostly against weak competition, and he did ‘okay’ against some ‘tougher’ teams but not all that great. Shot 34% from 3, 51% from 2,, had 2.1 steals and 5.8 rebounds / game, but shot only 62% from the line. Was a 2* out of a Jersey HS.
Dunno how much of this converts to the BEC.
But I’m feeling deceived. 1 grad big and 2 sit-outs was not the spin we were fed to expect.
I’m not blaming Matt—but I am blaming a lazy, half-focused recruiting strategy by the Staff.
We may run 6 deep next season: Ponds, Simon, Clark, Dixon. Keita / ( Olujobi?), with some help from Trimble, Williams, Roberts. I’m not counting on Diakite because of rehab concerns. And not counting on much from Marcellus next year.
That is not a deep team by any measure.
We may have a good season but not as good as many of us, including me, expected.

I don't mind the sit-out transfer strategy, particularly since the staff seems to have a good eye for who will take a major jump with a change of scenery. But we absolutely need two grad transfer bigs, not one. I think we'll have four openings, so we should have room.

Unless I’m mistaken, the unofficial spin now is 1 grad big and 2 sit-outs—which to me doesn’t cut it and I’m ticked.
Yes, IF another slot opens up and we fill it with a juco or a grad big transfer, that’d be great and calm me down!
Who’s the ‘4th opening’? Trimble?

Things change. Started this thread to just throw out possibilities I have heard. No Sears Tower ledge trips now. :)
People are assuming the reason we haven’t brought in another coach whether it be an X/O guy or recruiter (or both) is because of the obligations left on whatever deal that the school and Slice settled on. Well maybe it is because this is who the Coach has decided he is going to roll with and he is not looking to bring someone else regardless what his critics say he should do.

Bringing in someone else does not mean you have to pay a real high salary. If they want to bring someone else in, I am sure they could make it work.
Then coach is an idiot to roll with just one, one who get 2 sit outs a year?, GTF outta here with that bs.
Getting really sick of that BSSSSSSSSS.

But yeah, I'll give Mullin next year, if same old damn results.
CHRIS DESERVES TO GET RIPPED BAD. LEGEND OR NOT.

Is Chris just another Lavin who was lazy recruiting wise.

I hope that “ GTF outta here with that bs“ was not directed at me for posting something that seems at least obvious at this time. These are the guys he is rolling with.

MJA,

As it turns out craft beer stand with Bronx Pale Ale s was right by our section. I had two as we had great lunch at a French place with my daughter before the game so I had already imbibed a bit. I would rate it an 8, right on pat with Sierra Nevada and Natty Greene Southern ale which I love.

Chris Mullin is not another Lavin in that Lavin was smart enough to know he needed help after being out of coaching for a half dozen years. You couldn't find a better advisor than legendary coach Keady. Tony Chiles was not only a great recruiter but a former coach with an Ivy League education. The one guy that did not pull his weight was his assistant coach from California that played for Lav at UCLA. I didn't like the way Lav catered to his buddy when both Whitesell and Chiles could coach circles around Rico Hines.

IF we have any kind of shot at all, I’d make Lukas Kisunas, the UCONN decommit , a top priority. Rated a 3* and 13th best center in 2018 class by 247 Sports. Big presence in the post, solid defensive presence, and good shooter.

For those that worry about the quality of our potential transfer candidates based on the teams or conferences they come from or how many stars they had coming out of HS, Michigan had a rotation player who averaged 10 points a game who was a transfer from a D3 school. Duncan Robinson from Williams who out of HS was not rated by 3 services and was a 2 star on one service.

My point is all *s ain’t created equal. Some 4*s, even 5*s don’t perform up to the hype. Some 2*s out of HS become college studs and some 3*s outperform 4*s. Kids peak at different times.
Olujobi was unrated out of HS. He has honed his game impressively and I think can help us big time, should we be lucky enough to get him.
I just think we need 2 bigs for next year.
This kid Kisunas was regarded as a ‘stretch’ commit by UCONN—but from what I’ve read about him, he seems ideal for us, and a freshman.
If we have any kind of shot , I’d make him a priority.
