Guys on Matt’s Radar

That will do wonders for our chances of Simon coming back for senior year if we start playing him at power forward & backup center...you can't make this stuff up.

That’d be strange. The kid is in the middle of rehabbing a major injury. Guess you never know.

It’ll be ‘shoot the lights out’ hoops—only shooters need apply. I know nothing. Just praying it works!

Mississippi State transfer Eli Wright is currently on an official visit to St. John's, per a source. Talented scorer. Sit one, play two. #SJUBB

Maybe we should see if we can get Sister Jean thrown in with one of these guard transfers...

The extra scholarship is obviously Pond's ;).

IDK how I feel about Wright, but as long as we'd have an available scholarship for another big I'm fine with it.

Regardless, get LJ and I'll be excited for next year. I still feel another big would help a lot, but not having one shouldn't keep us out of the NCAA running.

I agree, I vibe a third spot is going to open up. I love LJ as well as the guards we are pursuing. That said, the staff has to know we can't go into the season without adding a big.

If Kieta got hurt for an extended period, the staff will have put themselves in the crosshairs by having the team shorthanded again.

Bear in mind Burke may look at perimeter guys we are getting verbals from and opt elsewhere. Just a thought

Under my very early Christmas Tree, I want to see: pics of LJF& EW in St. John's uniforms, and a very big box, marked 'Grad Big'.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but with Figueroa, Eli Wright and the Robert Morris kid where do the scholarships come from? We currently have two open and more importantly only 1 (Clark) open next year. So the plan is, we offer the following: Kofi, Ndiaye, Igiehon or Gaffney. We take the first guy to accept, and send the rest to Syracuse? Seems like would be better off wasting one this year so we have two next year.

If it is Diakite (please NOT Ponds!), how would that work? He'd leave school or can SJU give him an academic scholarship, which would 'free up' an athletic ride?
I doubt that! You'd have the likes of LOU, 'Cuse, UCONN, AZ, UNLV having veritable 'farm teams' of 'injured' hoops players on 'academic' rides.
Guessing he would leave school. That's sad.

Don’t leave Santa a hot chocolate on a big :)

I would save one as well, but Ponds won’t be here then either, not to mention kids who transfer. This year if four new kids come, the Louisville model will be implemented. :)

Apparently, a 3rd scholarship may open this year, giving us 3 which i pray go to Figgy, a Grad Big, and probably EW.
Next year, Clark comes off the roster, plus Ponds (no doubt), maybe Simon, maybe Trimble, maybe ???.
Somehow, i wouldn't worry about available scholarships being scarce.

Lol! Guess, I'll be drinking that myself!

With Ponds, Simon, Dixon and Williams hopefully all on this year's roster, in the current college bb world of transfers how can Trimble stay?

Has there ever been a situation in program history (or at least recent history) where a talented player wanted to come and was told there is no scholly available? These things always have a way of working themselves out, even more so now when guys transfer based on individual game substitution patterns or because a guard looked them off on a fast break.
