Guys on Matt’s Radar
Stay tuned next few days or so I believe.
The kid was highly-rated out of HS, pursued by high majors, including odious Louisville, was 1st Team AA Juco as a freshman, and is a legitimate scorer. And imo, LJF would be our biggest ‘get’ since Ponds. What an incredible potential early Christmas present. I’m holding my breath.

My sense is Matt likes this player despite unimpressive numbers. We’ll see.
LJ was ranked #116 on 247 composite last year:

I don't know much about JUCO, but it appears he was First Team All American.

"Figueroa, from Lawrence, Mass., is the only freshman on the 10-person team selected by the men’s basketball committee."

Obviously sounds like a huge pick up. Would he be immediately eligible?
Rankings varied: 82 at one point by 247 Sports, 55 by Scout, and I think 114 by espn . No matter, the kid had a great season in JUCO. Yes, I believe he’s immediately eligible.

Yes
Juco AA as a freshman too

Book this one is my sense
Hi Paultz. Will Wright’s commitment block LJF’s? It’s looking crowded on the dance floor, musical chairs wise: 2 rides left. IF EW commits, only 1 left for that elusive big. Does that leave Figgy out, or are we doing the NFL shtick—best athletes available? Because LJF a very compelling ‘get’ at this late date.

I admittedly am no expert, but just looking at Wright's numbers, they don't exactly jump off the page. What is attractive about him given other sit out guard transfer options?

Doubt it would effect Figueroa who they need immediately. Wright would sit out a year.

Good question

Whew! Thanks. But 2 rides are left. Thinking that ‘Grad Big’ looking like the Big Foot legend at this point.

EW was a highly-regarded 4* out of HS, ranked 80th by either ESPN or 247sports (source blurring in my memory threads!), and I think he was 40% 3pt shooter in HS. Like many, had a tough transition to college, their system, et al.

So if we get wright then that’s going to eliminate either fig or Robert Morris kid and I’m assuming the latter and then Simon players backup center when keita gets foul trouble or tired

Or in “transfer mania” add three more & deal w roster. :)

The new era of St. John’s hoops: a very talented, quick, guard/wing dominant lineup, with the consequent pluses and minuses. Shoot the lights out basketball. It’ll be our best hope. Exciting for sure—and maybe rewarding, if we win!
Don't be too quick thinking SJU won't have enough spots...
Right. That’s the 64000$ question. Been assuming Trimble stays, but he would be most likely to leave—although who knows these days. Hoping not Ponds this year or anybody else key to 2018-19 prospects.
Shooting the lights out would be great, but Wright shot 21% from 3 last year and 40% overall. I guess he fits the Island of Misfit Toys strategy.
Lol. Correct, but I was talking ‘shooting the lights out’ this year with Ponds, Figgy, Clark, Simon, Keita, Dixon, Williams.
Eli had a tough ‘17-‘18 season, but shot 3s @ 40% rate last year and in HS. So, the kid has the talent.
