Georgia, Sun., Nov. 24, 11am, CBSSN

What are you talking about? He didn't dance last season. Now he's in his second season and coming off a disastrous road trip. Where has he led us out of the wilderness to?
We lost to 13th rank Baylor on a last second 3 and by 3 points to a 6-1 Georgia team. That is far from disastrous, especially at this point in this season. If we lose to Harvard on Saturday, now that would be disastrous.

I disagree with your assertion that Pitino “could care less what a guy is getting in NIL.” He’s on the record numerous times saying that NIL is now driving the college game. He cares a LOT about NIL. He spends an inordinate amount of time courting NIL donors like Repole and I am sure he is under pressure to demonstrate that they are not throwing their money down the drain. By all accounts, Repole just spent around $1 million acquiring Richmond and I have zero doubt that is factoring into the playing time.

There's a disconnect in your logic.

If kids are all just chasing the biggest bags (and they're not, just appropriately big bags in locations that suit them) then how much they play in their last season of eligibility should not be a factor in playing time. If the player in question had another year of eligibility then it might make sense. But to say a coach will play a kid based on how much he's paying him this year to his own long term professional detriment when that same kid will not have any impact on the following year's team because he can't return just doesn't make sense. So if it was RJ (and it's not) then maybe it would make sense to make that claim, but if it's any of the 5th year seniors then it does not. And the NIL donors would feel the same way. They don't offer up these funds to get an in with the kids, they pay them so their alma maters/team addictions can win games.

If a donor gave big $ for a specific kid or donor you have a relationship with……

There’s no disconnect. Pitino and the coaching staff made it clear to the major benefactors of the program what they need in order to be competive. In this case, the staff concluded that, among other things, they needed Kadary Richmond, or someone of his ilk, at a price tag of around $1 million. Repole stepped up very publicly, to the point where he basically “announced” Richmond’s recruitment to SJU before the school even did. So now everyone has to defend the expenditure. It’s not personal, it’s business.

Please finish your thought. Are you saying because a donor funded a player's nil, a coach like Pitino would play that player to keep the donor happy even if it hurt the team's chance of winning? The donor gives his money so the team can win. He has no relationship with, and does not personally know, or ideed, care about the player. His sole motivation for giving substantial dollars is to enable the team to win. You think Repole would be upset if Pitino does not play or start Richmond? You have any idea how many horses Repole buys for seven figures and then dumps when they do not produce? Can you give us the logic of your position? I would live to hear it.

1 and 2 is 1 and 2. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Perhaps "disastrous" was a poor choice of adjective. Then again recent, Michigan at Msg and BC at Barclays, and not so recent, Penn State at Barclays, history teaches us that these early season non leaguers solely can be the difference between making it - and declining Nit bids.

He is going to put the best team out there and would never ever play a lesser players because he had been paid more nil.
Really? Richmond had an objectively awful game vs Georgia, and yet Pitino kept him out there for 35 minutes. Are you telling me that there was no one on the bench better than him- say, Smith, who sat for the last 13 minutes of the second half? For that matter, Richmond has been underwhelming in general so far this season, and yet no one on the roster has received more minutes than him. Pitino’s already making excuses for him. “He just needs to get in bettter shape.” You cannot convince me that this has absolutely nothing to do with Richmond’s NIL.
