Thought a lot about this game. I am going to chalk it up to the following. We put up a stinker. Every year we put up two stinkers before the conference games start. A lot of times the stinker comes against someone like St. Francis so it doesn't matter today it came against a halfway capable team because the team with few exceptions came out flat and played selfish. Kadary and Smith HAVE to be pass first. If they are not with RJ, Zuby, and Scott we got five guys who will just try to play 1 on 5 instead of playing team ball. Having 5 assists on 61 shots is unacceptable.
Which leads me to the next big failure. Coaching. Everyone who watched 5 minutes of the Baylor and UGA game knew the refs were allowing a TON of contact. Baylor and UGA mugged us. Someone on our bench should have said lean on them on D, hand check, hold, take, slap at every ball MAKE them call a foul. We didn't all we did was complain. Next we need to have a primary ball handler. I'd prefer Kadary, but if it's going to be Smith so be it. What we can't have is Wilcher and Luis handling the ball. It stops all ball movement and coach has to recognize that. Finally, if you're shooting 2-19 from 3 you have to have a plan to get it inside more.
My last observation, for the first time in 20+ years we have a team that doesn't benefit from a loosely called game. We used to have athletes that played basketball. Bulldogs. Now we have basketball players that use spacing and freedom of movement to their advantage on offense. We'd be wise to stay out of rock fights.
