Thought a lot about this game. I am going to chalk it up to the following. We put up a stinker. Every year we put up two stinkers before the conference games start. A lot of times the stinker comes against someone like St. Francis so it doesn't matter today it came against a halfway capable team because the team with few exceptions came out flat and played selfish. Kadary and Smith HAVE to be pass first. If they are not with RJ, Zuby, and Scott we got five guys who will just try to play 1 on 5 instead of playing team ball. Having 5 assists on 61 shots is unacceptable.

Which leads me to the next big failure. Coaching. Everyone who watched 5 minutes of the Baylor and UGA game knew the refs were allowing a TON of contact. Baylor and UGA mugged us. Someone on our bench should have said lean on them on D, hand check, hold, take, slap at every ball MAKE them call a foul. We didn't all we did was complain. Next we need to have a primary ball handler. I'd prefer Kadary, but if it's going to be Smith so be it. What we can't have is Wilcher and Luis handling the ball. It stops all ball movement and coach has to recognize that. Finally, if you're shooting 2-19 from 3 you have to have a plan to get it inside more.

My last observation, for the first time in 20+ years we have a team that doesn't benefit from a loosely called game. We used to have athletes that played basketball. Bulldogs. Now we have basketball players that use spacing and freedom of movement to their advantage on offense. We'd be wise to stay out of rock fights.

Odds

RedStormNC 3-1 currently stuck in Bahamas prison so no-one can get to him

NCJohnnie,Dinkins,Mattia Brothers 4-1 they have a Carolina Alliance they last till almost the end

Mean Gene 5-1 People scared of him because he's Mean

ESPKEN 6-1 Gotta keep the guy who remembers the last St Johns NCAA win around for awhile

Monte and Eric 6.9-1 The numbers speak for themselves

Amase-SJUDave 7-1 as posters kill each other it's a race to the death by them to video document it

JerseyShoreJohnny 8-1 Kevin lasts a long time because he has no enemies and everyone rsvp'd for his BBQ next year

Beast of East 9-1 he survives a while because Ledlum has been his bodyguard since the welcome Pitino dinner

Paultz 10-1 since moving to Florida full time escapes the full time local nut jobs at games

Lawman 11-1 No full time practicing attorney makes the top 10 but these are still great odds. Seth Greenberg could be his wild card to strategize to be the sole survivor

The margin of error isn’t razor thin like last year. We will rack up wins in conference and we will have multiple huge wins in that portion unlike last year.

A chance at a 4 or 5 seed is likely gone barring a huge run. That’s disappointing this early.

Kansas State likely becomes a must win.

I wouldn’t rule out playing Saturday night in the BET if we ever figure out grabbing a defensive rebound when it matters most.

So a coach has no responsibility to get players ready to play? Because others have pointed it out and I will repeat it, this team got out tougher by Baylor second half forward and pretty much the whole game today. Keeping players on the court through lack of effort is 100% on the coach.
Teams have poor shooting nights, but even with that, had St. John’s even made a reasonable amount of the effort plays, they win going away.

Big East has a few very good teams but will be bottom heavy this year. I for one do not think 9-2 and 12-8 will make us a dance lock although it could be good enough.

I’m referring to the 25 class.
Freshman classes will only matter if you can get top 50 talent who can be impact players because even they will transfer each year just chasing more NIL.
May as well sign established players for the same bucks in many cases.
Problems arise when players commanding 6 figures like Kadary aren't vetted for their talent vs. deficiencies. That's where coaching motivation becomes paramount.
This season may come down to whether Rick Pitino can motivate Kadary Richmond to up his game and "attitude".

We need good wins, no argument from me. Have to be in the top 4 of the league with the wins and record to get there.
Let’s see, Seton Hall finished 4th in the league and even beat UConn last year but no Dance invite cause of their OOC record. I think this past weekend was more important than many people understand especially with a tourney committee filled with Power Five conference representatives and a not very strong Big East commissioner in Val Ack.

Remember two things:

1. There were five bid stealers during Championship Week last year. While that could happen again, odds are that number will be much lower this year.

and:

2. There is one more at-large spot, due to the Pac 12 temporarily going belly up.

So, expect a softer bubble.

Using Seton Hall last year as a be-all end-all of what will happen this year, is not wise, IMO. New Mexico may not turn out great, but it will be better than any non-conference win they had last year.

Exactly Silly! This is what I’ve been trying to convey to everyone. We need to kill it in conference now and go 13-7 or 14-6 and finish at least 3rd. We need to go 5-3 against UConn , Marquette, Creighton and Xavier with preferably a sweep of either UConn or Marquette. Although, I think the sweep comes against Creighton. This is the position this team has put themselves in. The Selection Committee is not going to do The Big East , St. John’s or Pitino any favors. There has to be no doubt.

Harsh overreaction.
It's been a year and a half and we are 0-8 against teams that made the NCAA tournament. Mean Gene and Silly are right with our schedule wins over New Mexico and KSU are not going to cut. If we continue our trend and go 0-6 against the top tier, disciplined, well coached locks for the tournament, our margin for error to make the tournament is very slim.

I do believe that we put up an absolute stinker against UGA today. Sometimes that happens. I don't think we will have another game were we shoot so poorly or have only 5 assists. That being said Mike White and Scott Drew won the coaching battle. Drew had his team adjust to reffing and turned around an 18 pt deficit and Mike White by turning the game into a rock fight from minute one. Meanwhile, Rick's performance was left wanting.
