Georgetown, Wed. Jan. 13, 6:30pm, FS1 & 570 AM

Although it doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that great coaches need great players to win, it would demean the profession to say that coaching acumen isn't important. The ability to teach players in practice, to prepare a strategy dependent on the opponent, to make adjustments, and to motivate all matter. Without commenting on Mullin's attire or demeanor on the sidelines, it's natural to expect that, as someone who went from player to the front office, Mullin will need time to find his bearings. I therefore watch for whether he commands respect from his team, which is evidenced by their hard work and actions on the court and off.

You could conjure up Adolph Rupp and John Wooden, and this team would still be too small, too thin, and too slow to win very often in the Big East. I expect Coach Mullin to grow into this brand new, for him, endeavor, and to quiet the doubters when Big East level talent gets here. If that doesn't happen, I'm used to it, as I have been a Mets and Jets fan for many years.

Beast, I am not familiar with what line of work you are in, but were you perfect at doing that job 3 months into your first year?

Look I understand he should have better body language and talk to his team more, but jeez give the man a chance to improve.

Just like we all say when we watch our freshmen, they will adjust the college game.

Mullin will improve and adjust to coaching as well

I totally am in favor of doing just that Jack. When it wasn't very popular here to even suggest Mullin's name as a HC I was the strongest advocate. That hasn't changed one bit. However that doesn't mean I can't voice concerns about what's happening on the sidelines during games. My first post in this thread indicated that this is an apprenticeship for Mullin, but he doesn't appear to be a natural on the sidelines. HE will get 2-3 years at minimum to show what he can do, and I'm fine with the assistants doing the game coaching until he learns.

Chris Mullin can sit on my face for all I care.

Going to be a challenging season for your recaps. I suggest that for filler when game gets out of hand recap whatever television show you switch to. Or just recap what you do during commercials. I think your fans, of which I am one would enjoy this.

I'm all for cutting Mullin some slack on his first year on the bench

Wouldn't know it from your haughty posts

It's never smart to make a point by taking a half a sentence, no less a full one, out of context.

its never smart to say you're all for cutting a guy slack in half a sentence, and then writing 10 paragraphs doing the exact opposite

I'm not saying the outcomes would be different, but the score might. I'm all for cutting Mullin some slack on his first year on the bench, but its clear some things have to change, if only for the poor guy trying to do his job at the table whose view was totally blocked by Mullin for the last several minutes of the game.

Minko and Tierney are being blocked but maybe that's a good thing. LOL

Uh oh. Mullin sitting in the scirers table again

I'm using my ear plugs. Maher is yelling at him
If mullin spent as much time coaching during the game as he does flapping his feet sitting on the scorers table we night not be embarrassed on the floor as bad

Sorrry guys but this will continually piss me off with that lazy ass look sitting on the table

Sorry for final four fans from years ago but that's just how I feel

On the bright side as now everyone in 114 now knows desco comes to games with dress shirts to impress undeath his st johns game day jersey so not only does he talk the talk but he backs it up

Dress shirt under Jersey is a terrible look. Also anyone over 35 should no longer be allowed to wear jersey's

I adamantly disagree with the dress shirt under a jersey being a terrible look, particularly when a tie is worn. I will have a better opinion of the 35 limit in another 5 years.

Maybe the 35 limit should be a 35 waist.

Guess not. If we don't beat DePaul at home then we probably get shutout in the B.E.

Did we ever get shutout in B.E. play?

You went from feeling confident about beating a good Georgetown team that I still think will dance, as a 9 point dog, to thinking we will go winless in Big East. Bipolar much?

I'm not calling for him to be fired, but what I wrote was after watching 8-9 games in person where the act is getting worse and not better and providing detail on what I and others have seen.

I thought your original post was a fair observation to share, especially the utilization of TO time effectively. This coming from a guy that disagrees with you often. I think everyone is a bit fried by the tough, but to be expected year. Mullin regime will get us there in time, but some critical comments should not be viewed as heresy in my opinion.

IMO its too early to judge Mullin. I dont like to judge on dress code, sitting on table ,body language or demeanor. This year we are young w injuries. As a general rule I like to see improvement:; player development, improving record over time, and recruiting. Next year we will have a better feel.
