... The other thing is his body language. Standing on the sidelines with your arms folded is kind of a defensive posture that maybe is nervous as if he knows he doesn't know what he's doing and trying to conceal it and look professional. ...

Beast, are you reading a little too deeply into Mullin's body language?Jim Boeheim has won close to 1,000 games (1,000!) standing on the sidelines with his "arms folded."

...and picking his nose

Hey, if it works, don't knock it.

I'm all for cutting Mullin some slack on his first year on the bench

Wouldn't know it from your haughty posts

It's never smart to make a point by taking a half a sentence, no less a full one, out of context.

its never smart to say you're all for cutting a guy slack in half a sentence, and then writing 10 paragraphs doing the exact opposite

I'm not calling for him to be fired, but what I wrote was after watching 8-9 games in person where the act is getting worse and not better and providing detail on what I and others have seen.

Maybe we should have a 35 and over IQ limit here to keep people like yourself (Beast) from posing and instigating fights with half board. If you want to waste everyone's time just go troll the CUSE board... You have a holier than thou smug attitude and and attack anyone's opinion who does not agree with you. I kind of enjoy Mullin sitting on the scorers table, I think it will become a trademark of his like Lavin with Hair Gel and sneakers, and Norm Roberts with losing...

No, except for a couple of bonafide AH's on here, I avoid personal confrontations, like your post. You guys crack me up.. you can't comment on a coach if you aren't a college coach. Then I guess you can't comment on a player if you never played college ball, or on the game itself. If you want to make it personal, PM me and don't waste the board's time. I'll compare real IQs any time. Thanks!

Uh oh. Mullin sitting in the scirers table again

I'm using my ear plugs. Maher is yelling at him
If mullin spent as much time coaching during the game as he does flapping his feet sitting on the scorers table we night not be embarrassed on the floor as bad

Sorrry guys but this will continually piss me off with that lazy ass look sitting on the table

Sorry for final four fans from years ago but that's just how I feel

On the bright side as now everyone in 114 now knows desco comes to games with dress shirts to impress undeath his st johns game day jersey so not only does he talk the talk but he backs it up

You've got to get over this. It's just his way of expressing frustration at the way things are going. Do you honestly think that it's affecting his coaching? What more do you want him to do during the game? Rant and rave, run up and down the sidelines, scream at the players, chew on a towel, stamp his feet, wear a funky sweater? No coach is "coaching" every second of every game. As long as he has the respect and attention of his players he can sit anywhere he wants,

he did it during the red white scrimmage too so I don't know what he was so frustrated about then. Maybe someone hadn't gotten him his perrier

OK I get that. Once again, do you think it's affecting his coaching of the team or losing the respect of his players? It's not a business meeting, it's a college basketball game.

IMO its too early to judge Mullin. I dont like to judge on dress code, sitting on table ,body language or demeanor.

We thought we were getting Chris from Flatbush. Instead we've gotten Chris from Cupertino.

Dress shirt under Jersey is a terrible look. Also anyone over 35 should no longer be allowed to wear jersey's

Hey We Are SJU, don't knock it till you've seen it on me! I wear my colors proudly.

By the way, 114 crowd... did you guys notice I won the $50 to Stout last night? So at least something good came out of that blowout. A few more beers for the Descos

On the table-sitting... I can see why it sets off Maher and some others. It's a perception. You're the schools most visible representative, you're regularly on national tv... it wouldn't kill a coach to act as professionally as possible.
I know, I know .. Bob Huggins wears track suits and is drunk. Knight threw chairs and he's a Hall of Famer.
But that doesn't mean there's not a more respectful way to do the job.

I think coach's attire, comments, and body language need to all be considered in context. Lavin wore sweats to a Big East conference photo in which all the other coaches wore suits. That's a bad look. He was gaining a reputation for not attending as many local HS games as he should have been. And then there were rumors that he showed up to Alumni Hall moments before tipoff. All together it gave the impression that he didn't value his job.

Mullin hasnt shown that. For the most part he's acted like a pro.

Didn't watch the game (on a plane), don't have time for the thread. Quick question that's probably been addressed already. Was Lovett there? Tks,

This is an important point: that you don't have to be a college coach to notice deficiencies in strategy.
Personally, I'm still not judging Mullin, I'm letting him do his learning on the job. And for me, that's ok, for now.
But I generally hate that defense of criticism. People threw that in my face the last two years whenever I thought Lavin was screwing up.
Beast is smart enough to form an opinion, whether you agree with it or not.

The analogy that comes to mind is a simple one..... none of us have ever ordered airstrikes or negotiated a budget, but we vote for president and are entitled to an opinion on whether he's doing his job the right way.

Same goes for sports. Don't tell me I can't criticize Mullin because I've never coached D1 or in the NBA.

Final note from me on the sitting on the scorers table issue...

I remember as a kid that during Red/White or games against Marathon Oil, the Israeli team etc ... that Looie wasn't even on the bench sometimes. I definitely remember him sitting in the stands for those scrimmages.

True, but you don't have to be smart to form an opinion nor vote for a president. (that's what gives Trump a punchers chance) The most important thing in these forums is being smart enough to know who's worth a read and who's worth ignoring - it would save a lot of people a lot of time. And if you you can't figure out who belongs to the first part of that statement you probably belong to the second part of that statement.

IMO its too early to judge Mullin. I dont like to judge on dress code, sitting on table ,body language or demeanor. This year we are young w injuries. As a general rule I like to see improvement:; player development, improving record over time, and recruiting. Next year we will have a better feel.

I thank Beast, Paultzman and you RS and a few others for their perspective - this year excitement, progress with assembling staff and exhiliration, best recruiting job possible under the circumstances, " Ls" to be expected as is progress year to year...

I forget where I noted PJCarlissimo's early years before his final four run, but - as with Coach K - the early years were not stellar AND
K and PJ inherited a better situation.

Chris Mullin & Co really inherited nothing / but hope and possibility.

and so .500 next year (perhaps), NIT the next year (perhaps) then NCAA realities...eventually we will enter the NCAAs and "make some noise"!

For now I'm
Okay with Ls, sitting on the bench/scorers table, eating hot dogs during the game ala Babe Ruth, shirt out of pants ( unlike Fran F who had more out) waiting in long lines for crappy food...no McDs on the roster unless Ponds moves up into that stratosphere

My take, optimistic, realistic = not mutually exclusive
all the best

Only have a couple fashion rules that I live by:
1. NO dress shirt underneath a jersey
2. Unless for a good cause sneakers with dress pants, look terrible
3. Black dress socks with shorts is a no no
4. Unless you are Will Hunting's best friend Chuckie and you are trying to get a cash retainer, no white sweat socks with a suit
5. Unless you are a mob boss no track suites
6. Sun glasses inside make you look like a douche unless trying to hide a black eye, in church for a funeral mass or playing in a poker tournament
7. Never wear a jersey with your own name on the back unless your last name is the same as a player on that team.
8. NEVER wear short sleeve dress shirts
9. Pull your pants up, no one wants to see your underwear
10. Don't care how old you are your pants should never be above your belly button

Those were not Mullin specific. Basic rules that everyone should follow IMO

Some shots from last night (to keep the peace I am declining to post the one I took of Mullin sitting on the table) LOL.
