Georgetown, Wed. Jan. 13, 6:30pm, FS1 & 570 AM

Last night was the most visibly stressed I've seen Mullin on the sideline, I do agree that sitting on the table is a nervous tick but it does have to stop, it's not a good look. In terms of arguing with officials, that's the one thing that translates from being a player to being a coach. It's he only natural thing that he has done before as a player that he can do on the sideline. Everything else is new to him and will develop in time. I'm just glad we have this season to work out the growing pains. Imagine if he went to the NBA with the Kings and started sitting on the scorers table? It'd be national news.

what's the difference between sitting on the scorer's table or sitting on a chair on the bench?

the fans can thank the imbecile in the Fox Sports Studios doing the halftime analysis for this mess we have.

With all of the problems which the StJohn's men's basketball team has on and off of the court, the issue of Mullin sitting on the scorers table seems pretty small.

you're 100% correct.

however, Mullin's body language is saying something to me that I'm not comfortable with. and when he's directly in my line of vision for an entire game as he was last night it makes watching very awkward.

Uh oh. Mullin sitting in the scirers table again

I'm using my ear plugs. Maher is yelling at him
If mullin spent as much time coaching during the game as he does flapping his feet sitting on the scorers table we night not be embarrassed on the floor as bad

Sorrry guys but this will continually piss me off with that lazy ass look sitting on the table

Sorry for final four fans from years ago but that's just how I feel

On the bright side as now everyone in 114 now knows desco comes to games with dress shirts to impress undeath his st johns game day jersey so not only does he talk the talk but he backs it up

You've got to get over this. It's just his way of expressing frustration at the way things are going. Do you honestly think that it's affecting his coaching? What more do you want him to do during the game? Rant and rave, run up and down the sidelines, scream at the players, chew on a towel, stamp his feet, wear a funky sweater? No coach is "coaching" every second of every game. As long as he has the respect and attention of his players he can sit anywhere he wants,

he did it during the red white scrimmage too so I don't know what he was so frustrated about then. Maybe someone hadn't gotten him his perrier

My first live action game of the season.

My takeaway, last night at least the only player who played with any energy was Durand Johnson. He dove for loose balls and hustled, nobody else on the team seemed to do that.

Mussini cannot bring the ball up the floor against any kind of quickness or pressure. He reminded me of myself back in CYO in the 60's, I was great going against players with my speed or slower, when I had to bring the ball up against real quick guards they could pick my pocket almost every time, I could shoot but that was mostly all.

I don't care about sitting on the table; who knows if he was winning maybe he'd start a trend, we're losing so people make a big deal about it. I must say I didn't like the leg up on the table too, that did look goofy.

Thanks, Tony in Fairfield, nice seats. Sorry I couldn't deliver us a victory.

P.S. Some bad calls, and Georgetown hit on almost all of their Hail Marys!

Why does anyone care if Mullin sits on the table in the game!?

because it looks ridiculous. it's very noticeable when you are there watching and it's just horrible body language and gives off a negative impression especially when you are getting your brains beat in

But to be fair the game was so bad I left a little bit under 10 minutes left so I only had to watch the scorers table lounging for 5+ minutes of regulation

Do you have any eligibility left?

Dress shirt under Jersey is a terrible look. Also anyone over 35 should no longer be allowed to wear jersey's

I was there too, and it didn't bother me. I knew this would happen though. People getting frustrated with the team (because we just don't have that much talent) so they turn to nitpicking and already criticizing Mullin.

because it looks ridiculous.

What look more ridiculous? A hall of famer in a suit sitting on the scorer's table or a chubby real housewife of beverly hills wannabe in a sweat suit and Snookie spray on tan writhing on the sidelines like an epileptic. Because not only do I not recall you complaining about the latter, I recall you mocking anyone who even brought it up.

NOTE TO POSTERS: I currently have 666 thank yous. Please do not ruin it for me.

At one point he had his leg lounged on the table too. Couldn't help but think of you.
Dude it's like he thinks it's an ez chair. I wish the refs would whistle him for a T

It really bothers me to say this but mullin spends 10x more of his time complaining to refs than talking to his players during the game. He gripes ad infinitum to refs and is going to get t'd up soon. He spends most of his time on the sidelines with his arms folded watching the action. During timeouts he wastes so much time talking to refs that it looks like he has nothing to say to his team. Im teally starting to wonder if he is cut out for coaching and insay this with absolutely no malice. At this point this season is his apprenticeship and i sure hopes he figures out how to coach kids at this level

Concur

Not much teaching goes on during games. Coaches usually don't you know pull a guy on to the court and show the proper defensive stance. Practice is what those things are for. Ever watch Duke games? Coach Ferret's army of white terrible flopping former point guards do much of the in game talking to specific players.

What should Mullin say to Johnson? "Gee I wish you were much better and I am glad you won't be here next year"

Sitting on the table thing is silly but least of our worries.

The one thing I will ding him for is his post game comments of"look at our roster what do you expect?".
Can't see how that will go over with his players even if it is true. Did not need to be said by him.

I'll depart from you for a second. It isn't that much about sitting on the scorer's table. Its that he sits there watching, as if he's given up. He doesn't talk to players, doesn't interact with his own bench, nothing. To me during games there are two major parts of coaching - game coaching, and advising players.

I know there are a lot of GREAT remote fans who watch every minute of games on TV, which this year seems like punishment. What you don't see is isolations of what Mullin is doing during the game, which fans at all of our home games see,

If he can't game coach at some point, I'd love to see him intently talking to a player as he is about to insert him in the game giving him advice or instruction, or to a kid coming out of a game, explaining a mistake the kid just made. Well within his capability I believe, but I haven't seen this happen.

Slice confers with Mullin, but Mullin rarely seems to confer with any of the assistants, such as - let's play zone, lets press, or some other tactical change. It appears he is just observing games, and except in rare moments where he is exhorting the team to push the ball up or get back on defense, doesn't appear to be doing anything strategic.

The other thing is his body language. Standing on the sidelines with your arms folded is kind of a defensive posture that maybe is nervous as if he knows he doesn't know what he's doing and trying to conceal it and look professional.

Sounds very harsh, and all of you know I friggin love the guy as a person and want him to succeed here more than anyone who has coached here since Looie. I do think that if he has surrounded himself with a kid like St. Jean (who appears to do all the things Mulln doesn't) and Slice (who roams the sidelines like a HC), then I guess we will be okay once the real talent arrives. But I'd be lying to say I'm not concerned at all.

Yea, you clearly know a lot more about the game and coaching than Mullin....

Give the guy a freaking chance to coach a season and develop his style, etc.

Yes this is a petty grievance. We all know this is a massive re-building year (with a lot of good recruiting go on off the court), so let's not take out our frustrations on Mullin because of where he sits.

Thanks for the patronizing perspective of a non-"remote" fan (whatever that means), but plenty of season ticket holders watch Mullin doing his thing on the sideline without insisting that the sky is falling.
