@Georgetown, Tue., Jan. 28 , 6:30p, FS-1

Maybe not a must win in the traditional sense but it does feel like because of our lack of Q1 wins, pundits are sitting around waiting for us to lose a game we are favored so they can start making the case we don’t belong in the conversations we’ve been in the past few weeks

In that sense we need to win this game and continue rolling right into our big February slate

We will need to run a 2-big lineup for some stretches to deal with Sorber and Fielder.
It's going to be a Battle of the Brute Squads, clearly. Not hugely optimistic about this one, we are going to lose a game sooner or later and this could be that game.
Run a double high post on offense with the two bigs and attack the zone that way. I think Mullin did that one year when we played Syracuse at the Garden one year and it worked well.

If they run a 2-3 zone at us then to me the game is get the ball to Kadary at the FT line. He can shoot the mid range if they don't come up and dish to Zuby flashing into the lane or RJ cutting to the rim. The only issue with our team is that the other element would be that if the guards come down instead of the bigs coming up then Wilcher and Scott have to hit shots. Which is the part I'm worried about, along with defending both Sorber and Fielder down low without Zuby running into trouble. He will need help.

I'll throw in the obligatory snarky comment (no offense intended at you lawmanfan): "Just wait until we throw the Picket Fence play at 'em!" :)

“Rick Speak” this week stressed benefit of;

Sim taking threes right outside the college three point line, not pro one - practical and doable

Scott upping his rebounding numbers - doable

RJ learning the value of passing the ball, cutting & trusting teammates to hit him in optimal position for a good shot - suspect he will still prefer to drive into traffic, but hoping he paid attention. We need him to relax, take good shots in flow of game especially v a zone

All possible except perhaps the "passing the ball" part.

I said that also in a previous post. Get the ball to Kadary at the FT line and let him go to work.

Kadary will be bringing the ball up, Scott is the perfect guy to flash to the foul line. Better shooter. I bet Prey could do it too.

Justin Brownlee was the best at that of any player in recent SJU history. He used to drain those foul line jumpers all night, and when they collapsed on him he'd kick it to Hardy for WIDE OPEN threes. Those early Lavin teams destroyed zones.

I wouldn't mind seeing a little more Glover and even some Lefty if Georgetown is zoning us. I'm not sure if we'll get that, but I wouldn't mind it if Pitino went that way. Either way I'm hopeful after the second half against Georgetown at home, we can have a good first half.
Give me Lefty or give me death!
