Georgetown (MSG), Tue., Jan. 14 , 7:30p, PEACOCK

We could theoretically finish 24-7 15-5 and not be ranked again the whole season. If lose out to UConn and Marquette but win out against the rest we may never be ranked but would still make the tournament, and honestly that is all that matters.

Will be surprised if we drop all 4 & optimistic about a split, optimistic me 😎
My point being if that situation came to fruition we would win 24 games and probably go unranked for rest of way. Don’t care about rankings just want to make tournament and not as play in. Honestly 6seed through 9 a crap shoot so who cares. Regardless of rankings they couldn’t possibly keep a Pitino 20 win team out of tournament 2 straight years.

I am happy that some shots fell for Scott - as I've posted for weeks I think he's the X-factor that gets this team over the top in a big spot (Villanova and Georgetown games do not count as a big spot and we were fortunate to win both of them).

What concerns me is that I have never seen a team with so many players whose shots are just broken. I can't criticize too much with regard to Kadary; his shooting from range was terrible coming in so I can understand how folks thought there was little to lose by trying to fix it. Except that in the process they broke his free throw shooting and did some damage to his mid-range as well.

Scott came in with nice form and good numbers and now it is totally random whether his shot goes in or not. One of the 3s last night he missed by 3 feet, it just happened to hit the backboard and go in. I think there were a couple of others where he missed everything by a country mile as well. Good shooters don't do that; sometimes it doesn't go in but there's a difference between that and throwing a dart at the dartboard.

Wilcher's form isn't broken, but the shots don't go in enough either.

Thus far the only one who's immune is Glover, and I suspect that's because he has the RJ-style immunity of supreme confidence in his offense. That may be the answer to both Scott and Wilcher, they are thinking and aiming instead of shooting and they need to play more freely.

But the key to this team winning big games is going to be better shooting. Everything cannot be a slog against less- talented teams.
By the way, I believe that was Luis who missed everything but air on one of misses from deep. Scott's shot is generally on the money, but many of his misses of late rims in and out. Hopefully, last night's outing gets him back in rhythm.

I'm not saying this to be a smartass because I agree with your point and think people are vastly overestimating total wins.

But, this is precisely why we should all have really high expectations the rest of the way. We should be gunning for a 3rd, 4th or 5th seed.

We Are ST John’s
Just get in

As a twelve year old I attended a SJU - Santa Clara game in 1953 and have attended hundreds of games since then but that Geo- SJU game in 1982 was the most humiliating. I had to beg my sons to leave when the score was 41- 9 and Ewing looked like the second coming of Wilt. He blocked a Mullin corner jump shot at one end and dunked at the other end. Before he put on the weight in later years he was a gazelle.
The amazing thing about that game was it was pure humiliation played on a weekday in MSG and somehow Looie got the team to forget about it by Sat when they beat Prov at the Nassau Col.

I'm not allowed to say anything negative about RJ tho. I've gotten a reputation among his fan club...

I wish I had your faith Larry but last year the Johnnie’s were not the only ones slighted, so were the Hall who actually beat a UConn team that steam rolled through the Dance. The only way the Big East has true representation will depend on the make up of the selection committee. Hopefully Val has figured that out, grew some balls and sees to it that the conference is well represented.

You want that number next to your name. In the history of the NCAA Tournament only 4 teams that were ranked didn’t make it. If we are ranked they can’t leave us out. If we’re not anything can happen.

Caught grief last year for not putting us and Hall in. We win 21 and there is no way we are out. No way keep Pitino out.
Stupid play in my main concern.

Was at the game last night. I wish i could say it was fun, but man was it a grind. The whole garden was dull. We were as flat as disconnected as can be. I told the guy sitting next to me we that being down 10 at the half with how poorly we played is remarkable. the 1st couple min of the 2nd didn't look better but then we started crashing the boards our fortunes changed. Kadary is much more dangerous attacking the rim with the intention of finishing. Scott was our workhorse. RJ is our guy, you live with the bad cuz when he is good, it's pretty damn good. I'm team Prey. I like his length and smarts. He knocked down 2 big FTs. Sim was in a funk offensively. His dad was also yelling at him to score the ball! Jaiden and Lefteris will be promising

Give credit to Georgetown, their guards were turning the corner on us and forcing us to make weakside defense decisions that were always right. We made the right adjustments in the 2nd, but they will be tuff at their place. I know a lot of people don't like Cooley, but his comments about us 100% being a top 25 team is just all class. He is doing a good job there so far and a Georgetown should be happy to have him.

This Ed Cooley quote has me fired up

For St. John’s not to be ranked, first and foremost, let’s talk about that,” Cooley began. “I don’t know who some of these voters are, I don’t know who has a vote, but you’re blind. Wake up, you’re blind. That’s one of the best teams we’ve played all year, I don’t know if there’s a close second. This team is really, really good. They have some dynamite players, they defend at an elite level, they try to speed you up, very, very good. So for everybody that’s behind that iron mic that has a vote, wake your ass up.”
Never a Cooley fan, but that was fantastic.

Very minor point, Prey seems to be getting more comfortable out there. Obviously not a stat sheet stuffer, but exhibits some poise and knows what to do with the ball attentive to time and situations. Vince has provided rebounding, but lacks the instincts Prey has, which may be reflective of better coaching and experience v professionals. There is room for both guys, but I think down the stretch, Prey will add intelligent play to the mix. Vince exhibits some flash blocks, but defensively Prey moves his feet well, anticipates better and just is more fundamentally sound. That is so valuable during those important possessions when called upon.

I think both have potential actually but at this point Prey is further along so def makes more sense for the team and his development to give him Vince mins too.
