Georgetown- Game 2

This game resurrects thoughts of the Pitt game in Lav's first year. Frankly, I gave us little chance of winning against that very big & solid team. Now I look at GT with much more optimism. I think they are solid, but this does not seem as daunting a task as that Pitt contest. Two entirely different teams, but for whatever reason, I feel we are as healthy as we have been in a long time & will win a close one. Since we won't fill MSG ourselves, I don't care if GT has a lot of fans. That will just make for super atmosphere. Beat the Hoyas!! Great opportunity Johnnies!

I would like to see amar and co playing more together Or amar playing center and let Smith try to guard him away from the basket if he does not let Amar shoot more he has a good shot and Smith will have to come away from the basket if he stars hitting jumpers opening up the lanes for us. Who knows we had no answer for him the 1st game coach has a difficult game to coach but the players will have to be working and be on with their outside shots . If we do get beat we have to make a good showing

If Amar spent as much time practicing shooting as he does on his hair, you might be on to something.

One key to this game versus the first Georgetown game is that we will come into this game well rested. Last time we were on our 4th game in 10 days while they had a week off.

Love the time off we have in between games here. Really hoping Dlo and Obekpa can get close to 100%.

We had a little over 10K last year. I would expect 12-14K for this game.

@rumbleSBN: JT3 says Saturday will be "special" against St. John's #sjubb

@rumbleSBN: JT3 on St. John's: "They are playing very well right now. They can really score, and it's not just D'Angelo." #sjubb

mkras99 and mrs. mkras99 will be at the game. That should be enough for us to win.

What will it take for us to beat Georgetown?

Stopping the two Smiths would be a good start. Chris "Elbow" Obekpa was like a rag doll hanging on to the larger Smith in Game 1. Rotate in Ollie Begovic and JDLR. Keep a lid on Trawick.

If we get a balanced attack, meaning PG4 and RJ23 chip in for double digits and we get the usual contribution from D'Lo and Sir'Dom, we will be in good shape...

And hope the refs swallow their whistles. :)

Man, what scares me the worst is how handily they beat us the first time. Their size and length seemed to be a huge problem for us and they seemed to have the perfect plan to stop us and executed it. Granted we didn't play one of our best games, but they looked unbeatable that night.
We missed fouls, but did a good job getting to the rim vs. X-men. If we hit fouls win could have been attributed to getting into the lane. We can't count on winning by hoisting it up. Even when we miss in the lane it's easier to follow shots or get back on D. We must be dedicated to getting to the rim. Jordan is a big part of that, and if he draws guys to him a capable passer. I have been concerned about our ability to win a game with the ball in his hands down the stretch. I feel it's the seniors who have earned the right to control their destiny. Jordan did make a couple of big plays at crunch time vs. X-men, and CO also played strong. I think we got the horses and feel that thumping on the road they gave us might have the guys on go when the ball goes up.

Didn't Georgetown hit 7 3's to start the second half last game? They won't do that again.

I'm not concerned. Last time just a good game for them and bad for us. I think the line will be about even. Not more than a point and a half either way.

This is the most exciting game for us in YEARS. We may (note: may) clinch with a win. I went to the first round of the BET last year and once SHU upset Nova there was a 0% chance that game would've clinched our spot. I think the players knew this and were deflated a bit during the game.

As for attendance, I think it'll be a huge crowd. I heard from a friend yesterday it was almost sold out. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for there not to be 14,000 plus and frankly it should be more around 18,000. The Duke game was 19,812 which I assume was a sell out.

Last year's attendance was only 10,340 on Sunday night but for this game:
1. Georgetown always has a lot of fans at the game and Saturday afternoon is easier to go to than Sunday night.
2. Georgetown is a much better team this year
3. SJU could clinch with a win and is also a much better team this year
4. Senior night and end of season when casuals start to pay attention
5. National TV

Again, no reason this shouldn't do better than last year everything is in the game's favor.

My guess 9k.

entire lower bowl was sold out 2 weeks ago.

Not true.

I respect you and BT, but my brother works at MSG, I just sent him a text and he said nowhere near 19k, and the lower bowl isn't sold out yet.

We still need to be pushing friends and family if we want a good crowd.

What's the lower bowl hold anyway? 12?
