Georgetown- Game 2

Last game, as hard as it is to fathom this, Georgetown was the more athletic team.
They out rebounded us, they had more blocks, and they had more steals (we had 0 steals).

All other strategy aside, that can't happen again. Regardless of how we play Smith or what sets we run, we need to get the "hussle" points to win against good teams. That's how we built a lead against Duke, that's how we've beaten Xavier.

We need to get to the foul line more than the Hoyas and we need to get extra possessions by grabbing steals and blocks when they're lazy with the ball.

Those will be the things I'm looking for on Saturday.

Agree. We also had a very difficult time against their defense, no easy shots. Can't allow a poor offensive Hopkins to score double figures again. They got too many easy baskets off cuts and passes from both Smith and Hopkins. Have to hit the boards at both ends and run. Also get back on defense because they also run after a rebound.
Don't let their freshmen, Copeland, White and Peete hurt us. Stopping Smith and Smith-Rivera should bring a victory.

While Smith-Rivera was interviewed on "Inside the Big East" he confidently blurted out that he was the best player in the Big East. He's good but not the best. Guessing Jordan will be guarding him. Pointer, probably on Trawick and Harrison on Copeland., Greene on Peete.
No doubt G'town is not worried about the Johnnies, especially since the recent wipeouts. Beware of MSG however. Go Redmen!

I have no respect for St John's especially under Lavin. Very streaky and very disorganized. Inevitably, when things get tight they revert to playground. I want us to beat them just so they don't wind up representing the BE in the NCAA tourney.

Defend our second home court, MSG!

I think our B+ or B games would be enough, but it's time to show the A game and then remember to play that same A game at MSG for the tourney!

Okay, I hate St. John's more than I love the BE. I just hate to see a team with so much talent yet so little idea of how to play the game be rewarded with an NCAA tourney berth. The Duke game is the perfect example of why I hate them and why they don't deserve to be in the tourney. A complete meltdown in the last 10 minutes. They blew a chance to promote the BE and prove they are legit. Unless they win out (including beating us of course) and go to the BE final they don't deserve a shot at a national title and I hope the tourney selection committee recognizes this. Remember this team lost to Creighton and DePaul.

Georgetown's last 5 NCAA Results:
2013 - First Round Loss
2012 - Second Round Loss
2011 - First Round Loss
2010 - First Round Loss
2008 - Second Round Loss

#1 team that always messes up my brackets!

yep since the final 4 year theyve been very underwhelming in the post season

There is a lot more parity in College basketball. The one and dones outside of Cal's group of Hamburger all americans make the 1st and 2nd rounds scary for the higher seeded teams. A lot of pressure on freshman. How many early KO's has Duke had recently? That is why for me if we can be a program that can just get in almost every year I would be happy.
Eveybody loves Louie but what he have 2 or 3 sweet 16's and one final four.

And their fans say that WE would be an embarrassment representing the BE in the tourney? What fools they are.

i have about a dozen friends who are gtown graduates....they all root for st. john's (except on saturday) and realize how important it is for our league that sju is successful.....i wouldn't get too bothered by a bunch of ignorant posters on their website....

I guess their rebuttal would be:

At least we made the tourney.

Their last five tourney results look an awful lot like pretty much any 5-year stretch of Lou Carnesecca's career

They have a lot of Alumni in NYC.

I'm hoping for the same refs we had in first half on Monday night.

This gtown team is no powerhouse. Their blow out win at their place is going to play into the hands of the johnnies. The Hoyas are going to see a better team at MSG. This should be the game where it all comes together - as Harrison said they have not yet played their best game. This is it.

Bulletin board material. What a bunch of bags as Jim Rome would say.

This game resurrects thoughts of the Pitt game in Lav's first year. Frankly, I gave us little chance of winning against that very big & solid team. Now I look at GT with much more optimism. I think they are solid, but this does not seem as daunting a task as that Pitt contest. Two entirely different teams, but for whatever reason, I feel we are as healthy as we have been in a long time & will win a close one. Since we won't fill MSG ourselves, I don't care if GT has a lot of fans. That will just make for super atmosphere. Beat the Hoyas!! Great opportunity Johnnies!

Man, what scares me the worst is how handily they beat us the first time. Their size and length seemed to be a huge problem for us and they seemed to have the perfect plan to stop us and executed it. Granted we didn't play one of our best games, but they looked unbeatable that night.

Enjoy the technical analysis of the game as much as anybody. But when facing this Georgetown team it's not about that. It's only about one thing: guts.

Georgetown wants to punk you. They are going to body you, talk stuff, and try to run you off the floor in the first half. They want to throw haymakers for the KO. That's their super aggressive style. But they don't like it when you fight back, don't handle counters well.

Same thing happened last year. They treated us like kids 5 years younger in the school yard down in DC. We matched and out-matched their aggressiveness in the Garden and they could hardly make it a game.

We have to win the poise battle and the toughness battle. Do those two things and I like us in the winner's circle Saturday.
