Georgetown- Game 2

Of course like any diehard fan, this game scares the hell out of me, for all the right reasons.

There are reason boxers fighting for the championship, or why 280 lb defensive lineman will puke before a fight or a big game. Fear of losing when channeled properly becomes a motivator to leave everything on the court and beat the hell out of your opponent.

A few weeks ago, at 3-6, I said I wouldn't even entertain NCAA talks until/if we got back to .500. Now we are there and one game beyond. It's time to be serious, and to know, with a win on Saturday we will be on the doorstep of the NCAA tournament. The large improbability of a bid made it absurd to consider.

Winning 5 out of 6 has been an outstanding achievement. Is the team on a roll? We really can't say that, because they've gritted and gutted out each win. In the one loss they got spanked by Georgetown, and in the game just before the run they got whipped by Butler.

But if this is a team of destiny, a team that one announcer said in one of our recent games that "can beat anyone in the country on any given night", beating Georgetown would put us in discussion as one of the top teams in the conference.

Tall order. I'm not confident in a win. But I am confident our guys will give all. The keys: 1) once again, ganging up down low to prevent mismatches, but covering kick outs for open 3s. 2) Getting the transition game in high gear 3) Being patient in the half court offense and not settling for the first open long three 4) Keeping out of foul trouble

The game should have a playoff atmosphere. I am guessing outside of our student fans there isn't much buzz on campus. If not, there should be. This team is special.

Since we do not have an answer Smith we will have to have a really high % in our field goals and foul shots If we rebound better this time we can run and and make Smith work going up and down the court Basically we need a really well payed game. But we are capable

Last game, as hard as it is to fathom this, Georgetown was the more athletic team.
They out rebounded us, they had more blocks, and they had more steals (we had 0 steals).

All other strategy aside, that can't happen again. Regardless of how we play Smith or what sets we run, we need to get the "hussle" points to win against good teams. That's how we built a lead against Duke, that's how we've beaten Xavier.

We need to get to the foul line more than the Hoyas and we need to get extra possessions by grabbing steals and blocks when they're lazy with the ball.

Those will be the things I'm looking for on Saturday.

Not sure if it has been brought up yet, but both times we play Georgetown this year they are coming off a full weeks rest. I know this time we also have 5 days off, but last time it was a 3 day turnaround for us. Seems like a bit of a scheduling snafu

might need JDR to bang inside. With Dom JDR and CO banging the boards, need to rotate in PGIV, Branch, and Amar if we go with D and Sheed starting. If we come out strong and take them out of it we will be fine. BTW, love how the refs let them play in the first half against Xavier. Once CO or D gets two fouls in the first half we are a different team.
Go Johnnies!!!! Beat GTown and we DANCE!!!!!!!!

I have no respect for St John's especially under Lavin. Very streaky and very disorganized. Inevitably, when things get tight they revert to playground. I want us to beat them just so they don't wind up representing the BE in the NCAA tourney.

Defend our second home court, MSG!

I think our B+ or B games would be enough, but it's time to show the A game and then remember to play that same A game at MSG for the tourney!

Okay, I hate St. John's more than I love the BE. I just hate to see a team with so much talent yet so little idea of how to play the game be rewarded with an NCAA tourney berth. The Duke game is the perfect example of why I hate them and why they don't deserve to be in the tourney. A complete meltdown in the last 10 minutes. They blew a chance to promote the BE and prove they are legit. Unless they win out (including beating us of course) and go to the BE final they don't deserve a shot at a national title and I hope the tourney selection committee recognizes this. Remember this team lost to Creighton and DePaul.

Ironically they sound similar to the posters on the Providence board. Although they call us thugs. both recognize our talent. After reading their comments, I want to win even more.

We should compare rap sheets with Prov players over the last few years. Batts, Austin, etc. And let's not forget Gtown assistant Broadus who basically brought down an entire athletic dept at Binghamton U because of the players he recruited and was recruiting and was the subject of a NY times expose. But keep throwing stones, morons.

Are you and your old man posting over there?

It's funny Georgetown fans hate us because we lost to duke and blew a good chance to represent the big east. Hoya fans seem oblivious to the fact that they lost to Wisconsin and Kansas this year.

a personal attack, a wrong announcement about St. John's or the point spread...very stale and predictable.

if you have something to say to my "old man" inbox him on twitter,or speak with him at a game (which you wont do because you are a coward).

if you dont then come up with some new material.

Batts?

In 2010, Kadeem Batts, then a redshirt freshman, was charged with disorderly conduct and failure to leave the premises outside of a downtown nightclub. At the time, the Providence Journal reported that the charges would be dismissed if Batts stayed out of trouble for six months. Batts is one of four seniors on the team this year.

Bullock would have been a better example Imo with sexual assault issue. Bar stuff goes on all the time.

hands down Gtown is the team I hate the most. Their fans are insufferable. Hopefully we can play like the more desperate team and blow em out!

I meant Bullock. And there is also this:

Also in 2010, James Still and Johnnie Lacy were charged with felony assault after beating up a fellow student. Still was sentenced to 15 years in prison with four years to serve and Lacy was handed a three-year sentence for his role in the assault.
