Fire Lavin!

I haven't read all 90 something posts on this thread so I apologize in advance if this has been addressed already, but can someone tell me what is the "drama" people keep referring to?

Sampson was thinking of the NBA last year, most were convinced then that he would probably enter the draft after his sophomore season. Just because we don't think he is ready doesn't make it drama. It's simply him doing what many here expected him to do.

Obekpa to my knowledge has not stated that he is transferring. Unless & until that happens, give it a rest already.

Unless I missed something, there has been no confirmation that Obekpa refused to re-enter the PC game during the Big East Tournament. All I've seen written is that there may have been an argument or discussion on the bench with the coaching staff. For all we know Obekpa may have been pissed at the refs for the quick whistle and he was expressing it on the bench. Unless we know exactly what was said it's speculation.

Jordan has tweeted he is coming back. So unless there is official news stating something different, I don't see any drama here.

Sanchez, Gift & Marco are graduating. How is that drama?

Hooper is transferring. If you think this "drama" is only limited to St. John's you may want to look at thishttp://zagsblog.com/articles/college-transfer-list/#more-112675

Again, if there is something that I missed that confirms some of the things that so far are nothing but speculation, then I stand corrected, but until then, all of our so called drama is that we have is 3 seniors graduating, one leaving to the NBA a year later than some expected & a player who barely played transferring.

The drama is we've lost at this point 5 player (Sampson, Hooper, Gift, Sanchez and Marco) and replaced them with nobody! If Obepka leaves, we'll have no front line, and will have what, 7 players under scholarship? That's embarrassing.

What do you mean if Obepka leaves, is he leaving? That's my point, we are creating scenarios that don't exist yet. We are getting two players next year Jones & Balamou (if his redshirt goes through) that we didn't have this year. As for not having any new recruits, if this is still the case after the spring signing period then I will agree with you 100%, but we are not there yet. From what I've read, some here are saying that DelaRosa is a done deal. I don't buy that because he hasn't announced it yet. So until I hear Obkepa is leaving, he is coming back, & likewise until I hear DelaRosa is coming (from him) he is not yet signed on. No one is happy about how this season went but lets not create scenarios that don't (and hopefully won't) exist.

There are rumors that he is leaving from sources, are we just supposed to not discuss rumors? Isn't that the purpose of these fan forums? As noted, pretty much every top recruit for 2014 is taken, we've suddenly fell behind on DeLaRosa, Lavin is currently out broadcasting for the NCAA tournament, we haven't been tied to any transfers or graduates yet, or JUCO players. So yes, he could have some tricks up his sleeve that nobody expected, it's a remote possibility.

Also, there is no way you can say anything positive about Hooper leaving (besides we don't need him). The guy transferred to come here and sat out a year, only to leave after playing one season. Something just isn't right here.

I have no problems with rumors being discussed, but you have admit, there are some people on here who are stating things as if they are absolute facts. How do we know that we have fallen behind DelaRosa, the comments that I read from him the other day didn't suggest that. I agree with you on Hooper but then again maybe he left Harvard for St. John's to get a better education. :p

Probably just chatter, but from two days ago;

@CoachingChanges: Steve Lavin is snooping

What's that person's track record? Legit account or just some yokel making stuff up on twitter?

“@CV_26: "@CoachingChanges: Steve Lavin is snooping" @NYPost_Brazille” Look for him to try at Cal

If Obekpa is indeed transferring (and I realize that it's just a rumor at this point) it would make sense for Lavin to make a move now, or at least try. Unless he's got something major up his sleeve recruiting-wise, his coaching stock is poised to take a big hit next year.

I don't care if Lavin remains or leaves, I just want a resolution immediately. If he is going to be here, then make it public. That way, Lavin can go out and get kids without the questions of his job status hanging over his head. If the University wants to make a change (although I loathe the thought of who will make that call and who they will hire), make it so someone else can come here and start to put things in order.

The loss to Providence did more than just eliminate them from the NCAA Tournament. It caused this fragile team that was being held together by string, scotch tape, and silly putty to collapse.

This has become such a cluster----, the likes only SJU can create. I have set a really low bar for this program going forward.

He's going to shoot himself in the foot. This administration(or what is in place of one) and the boosters here have a lot of patience, and will drag their feet for years. But if they get wind that he's looking at other jobs, that can speed things up very quickly.

I spoke with someone from the athletic department and I was told that they are waiting for the new university president to be named, before any decision is made on a contract extension. Apparently the search has been narrowed down and a decision should be made soon.

Interesting. That's what Marquette did.

Great timing since the timeline for the new Pres is earliest, May. Just in time to miss out on the slim pickings left in the Spring Signing period. Talk about apathy and ineptitude. I guess they stopped teaching history at St. John's because clearly they don't learn and are doomed to repeat it.

Take it for what it's worth, but I also heard that Monasch supports Lavin and giving him a contract extension, whether others within the administration share that view emains to be seen.

Simons from the law school has been openly campaigning for the job, and appears to be a front runner. I hope they go outside for new blood.

It's not every day your president resigns amid a scandal. I don't think that the hiring of a new university president has much to do with the extension except to formalize what Monasch intends to do. More than likely if Monasch wants to extend Lavin, an incoming president will rubber stamp it. If Lavin intends to stay, and Monasch wants him, I'd be pretty certain reassurances are being given verbally.

Insofar as this rumor about Cal, it just may be piecing together the state of the current roster along with the long held rumor that LAvin's wife doesn't like NY and wants to return to the West Coast.

Respectfully disagree.

No question about it. St. John's will not like him looking at another job. Incredibly stupid if true and incredibly irresponsible reporting if not.
