Fire Lavin!

I don't care if Lavin remains or leaves, I just want a resolution immediately. If he is going to be here, then make it public. That way, Lavin can go out and get kids without the questions of his job status hanging over his head. If the University wants to make a change (although I loathe the thought of who will make that call and who they will hire), make it so someone else can come here and start to put things in order.

The loss to Providence did more than just eliminate them from the NCAA Tournament. It caused this fragile team that was being held together by string, scotch tape, and silly putty to collapse.

This has become such a cluster----, the likes only SJU can create. I have set a really low bar for this program going forward.

Good point on the broader implications of the loss to Providence. In retrospect, seems like so many seems turned on that. If we win, we probably end up playing on Saturday if not winning the BET, going to the NCAA, and, as you say, are probably not nearly as fragile as we are right now because of everything that would have come with that course of events.

We were done in by a dearth of quality wins over the season. That’s why Georgetown, who finished behind us in conference play and flamed out in the BET, was among the first four out in the NCAA Tourney and we weren’t.

Lavin to Cal is Alford-esque -- staying one step ahead of the posse.

I'll be up on campus this weekend, so I'll report back if I see him "snooping around."

If Obepka is leaving and Lavin is looking at Cal and really doesn't want to be here, then let's just let Lavin go and announce the Obepka transfer. Let's hire another coach and move on. I too was hoping that Lavin would bring some much needed stability to the program but obviously that is not going to happen. So, let's just move on now and hire another coach while there is still time to at least bring in another few players to at least make us somewhat competitive next year. I know a new university President has to be hire etc. but dragging their feet with this is the worst possible thing for the program.

I spoke with someone from the athletic department and I was told that they are waiting for the new university president to be named, before any decision is made on a contract extension. Apparently the search has been narrowed down and a decision should be made soon.

Simons from the law school has been openly campaigning for the job, and appears to be a front runner. I hope they go outside for new blood.

He will be the new President.

Quick, somebody get Ben Howland on the phone.

"Hello Coach Howland, yes this is St. John's University. Just wondering if, maybe, by chance, happenstance, or hypothetically, a head coaching job in the media capital becomes for arguements sake available, would you be interested? Pays over $2 million, and we, I mean the hypothetical University is very patient. There will be scholarhips to play with. Anyway, please let us know at your earliest convenience, if you would be interested in something like that if it played out that way. Of course, this is totally unrelated to St. John's. Thank you and have a nice day."

Could Massiello be any worse? I ask that seriously.

If you are serous then you need not be taken seriously. Not because of your opinion on Massiello but the fact that you think STJ would ever consider it.

No, I don't think they would consider it. But I do think he deserves a second chance somewhere. And I do believe he is a better coach than Lavin.
