Fire Lavin!

Wow.
Biggest game of the year and he plays pointer, dominic pointer.
And not a few minutes, a lot.
Xavier played horribly.
Stainbrook was in foul trouble all night long.
Points in the paint must be embarrassing.
He didn't start Jordan.
Biggest game of the year and he doesn't start his stud.
Losing to Seton Hall, which they should have, would have at least put the team out of it's misery earlier than tonight.
I know he'll never get canned, but paying to watch his teams is a thing of the past.
Such a shame to watch so much talent waste away.

It was horrible tonight. Just disheartening. I'll still wait to the end of the year but the standard is NCAA or bust. In my opinion they need 4 wins to get to the NCAAs

Here we go again... Harrison having a very very bad night didn't play a factor, but let's blame coach for that too.

Probably didn't start Jordan because he missed practice due to his staying in Philly for the Wake. Like to check the minutes but I believed he played his normal amount of time. That is not what I had a problem with. The lack of changes or adjustments overall (how many pick and rolls baskets did we give up), they were sleep walking on switches allowing more easy baskets, no energy. He finally goes to a zone with about 6 mins to go, they shoot a brick from the three point line, we come down and score. Then we go back on defense and D'Angelo, Jakar and Chris can't figure out what defense we are playing and they get an easy layup.

Just bad all around.

Coach didn't make adjustments, that is on him. Not saying fire the guy (and no to Bruce Pearl) but this was not a good coaching effort. Team was flat, no offensive plays to speak of.

They used the old Georgetown tactic, get physical and very aggressive up top and on the wings, and we reverted to the old one on one, no looks inside and bombs away.

Oh man this thread is like finding a $5 bill in between the cushions of your coach, uh, I mean couch.

Overreaction much?

Overreacting I don't know we started in 0-5 got back and over .500 just to lose 2 straight and biggest game of his Coaching Career at St. John's to this point we play like crap and on top of preseason expectations that he inflated sometimes I think Rex is coaching the team. Poor in game management lots of head scratching decisions all season. Also no recruits for next year and pretty much players we are looking at 2015 are similar to guys we already have.

This loss isn't on Dom. He logged 16 minutes and had 6 boards, which led the team. There were seven players who logged more minutes than Dom. If you need to point at what went wrong, guess Dlo shooting 1 for 11 was a major reason they came up short tonight.

They were just awful tonight. Xavier scored a ton of points under the basket while we were sleeping. As I watched them play tonight I realized that as much as I like this team and want them to win, they just dont have it. If by some miracle they made the ncaa, they would lose the first game. This is an NIT team at best.

A lot of posters that we haven't seen before or ever or are seeing again in another incarnation are going to be coming out of the woodwork

Should be fun!

Yes, we are not happy tonight. This loss hurts. But unfortunately this is what SJU hoops is right now. February has exceeded expectations and now we have to beat Depaul and Marquette. Keep cheering boys. It's not easy, but lets Go!!!!

Might be best if we stay off the site for a couple of days

I was at the game tonight. The crowd was itching to roar all night, but the team never sustained anything significant.

I did my best to find a pick or a screen, but the guys reverted back to just standing around on offense. At one point, I thought we were trying to run clock for Xavier. I am smart enough not to look for any set plays, as I know Lavin teams don't run plays.

The defense was horrendous. Our guys looked clueless and needed a coach's help.

My hunch is that Lavin is a decent person. He is not a good basketball coach. Well coached teams have bad nights. But well coached teams don't look like we did tonight (or like we did during the entire first half of the season).

I learned that some fans cannot see Lavin's deficienies and will blindly support him. Others see the script unfolding. We want to be relevent in the worst way. Yet, this coach can not compete with his big time counterparts. He will not get us over the hump.

I agree with a lot of the frustration Tom expressed. This was a bad bad loss.
But I don't think this game is the time to blame coach.
There were things I disagreed with, sure. But at the end of the day he played his 3 best players (Harrison, Jordan, Sampson) 30+mins each. He had branch running the offense when Jordan wasn't in there, and he kept his rotation short, and barely played hooper and gift. This is what we've all been asking for, and what he wasn't doing earlier in the season.

For the most part, he had the right guys on the court. Dom playing 5 less mins wouldn't have meant sh$t. The team was exposed tonight.

There will b a time to evaluate coach.
