Felix Balamou

Is Balamou a better player than Darrick Wood would have been here?

From what I've read, Balamou is a fantastic athlete -- but I don't think he is near the shooter that Wood is.

Bringing the ball up against 3LO, Greene, Branch, Balamou, Garrett, and Sir Dom, with stoppers behind them, might turn in to swimming with piranha.

True, but there's not a consistent outside shooter among them.

D'Angelo Harrison is one of the best shooters in the land. Greene and Garrett will also step it up considerably next year. Branch can hit open shots as well.

My bad ... I didn't recognize "3LO" as D'Angelo (it's an age thing), and of course I agree he's "one of the best shooters in the land." As for the others, they need to step it up, but that remains to be seen.

Solid signing for St. John's. Might not be a star from day one, but has the makings of a solid four year player for the program.

Either way, I think we should all welcome Felix to the St. John's family with open arms. He is going to be an important contributor over the next four years and I think he's going to be a part of something special.

DoodyNY33 -

I very much like the fact that he is written up as a good, coachable kid - how much is that worth? priceless -

my son just told me about Syracuse and Melo's ineligibility - SJU has had its own problems like all programs - but I recall reading about Derrick C. way back when smashing up an expensive vehicle - I was thinking back then I could not afford the luxury and here is someone in college driving one -

Of course more recently, has not been a good year for Beiheim (spelling?) and it's strange how he keeps on saying he will simply keep his mind focused on this team and this game etc.

I guess "this team" is not the one with Bernie and Melo…

I'd rather have a talented and honorable/decent kid than a top 100 with problems - as most probably would -

all the best

And I agree with those who already mentioned Paris Horne - were not SJU coaches at first looking at the "star" Justin Burrell when they "found" Paris? Similar to us looking at the Opeka kid and finding Felix.

Willie Glass and other non-stars have played significant roles, many improved over the years, stayed four years - this is a winning signing.

one never knows

No, we already had Burrell committed to SJU when the staff became interested in Paris Horne.

From what I remember, Willie Glass was not an under-the-radar player at the HS school level. He was a star in Atlantic City, was nationally recruited, and was considered a big signing when he came to St. John's.

Correct, not a great signing but a very good signing, rated around 125 in the class of 83.

Thanks to Redmanorth and redken - you get the jist of what I was saying (?):
1. not every recruit has to be in the Felipe Lopez/Malik Sealy ratings category
2. some blossom beyond expectations

I'm pleased with signing Felix.

thanks

Yes remember him mainly a rebounder

And the gold bling he wore around his neck that spelled "Hollywood."

He was a glue type of guy on those great teams, played pretty tough D, he shut Reggie Miller down at UCLA, and wasn't afraid to mix it up inside. By his senior year he was the second leading scorer averaging 16.6 and 5.8 boards. pretty solid numbers.

Add 15-18 boards for Obekpa.

His jumpshot is fine. Another solid game tonight. He had his ring and middle finger on his left hand taped tonight so shots werent dropping like last night but he still lead New Heights in scoring to victory. Kid is fearless penetrating the lane. Was roughed up good tonight with no fouls called but still drove, converted or missed and came back doing it again all within the context of the game.

Sounds like this guy and Greene could raise hell as a defensive tandem with either D-lo or Branch shooting. I'm starting to like this roster. Add Hooper with Dom and Amir and couple of bigs and let's play ball!

Sounds like a good pick up Moose! Hope he is in Chris's ear:)
