Felix Balamou

I wish the kid good luck and welcome him to the program. On paper, hower, he looks eerily similar to a Norm Robertshe recruit.
Always looking for that diamond the rough. Perhaps this is it Like his quickness and leaping ability He can hit the 3 After working more on his shot with the coaches might become a nice scoring threat

Solid signing for St. John's. Might not be a star from day one, but has the makings of a solid four year player for the program.

Most people probably want more, but this is how programs are built. It's not always about the McDonald's All-American; sometimes it's about finding that next piece of the puzzle. If you want an example, read the UCLA article in SI a few issues ago. They were one of the most dominant teams in college basketball at the time despite the fact Ben Howland wasn't bringing in top talent (at least, according to the recruiting experts). From everything I've read, Felix Balamou is a really solid local product with upside to his game.

Welcome aboard Felix!!!!
Look forawrd to watching you help the Redmen kick some ass for the next 4 years.
It would be great if your teammate Chris joins you.

I agree that we need guys like this. It's just that with everything Lavin has been tweeting and the potential loss of Mo, we're going to need to do significantly better if we expect to be an NCAA bubble team next year.

UCLA also had Wesbtrook Love Moutahbute and a few other first round picks on it..St Johns after the players lost needs more talent infusion.. a guy whos not even top 150 isnt gonna take the Johhnies to the next level

Did anyone ever hear of Paris Horne?
The comparisons are very similiar and we all know how he turned out.
Sounds like a very good pickup from where we sit right now.
Uconn, Virginia Tech, I like those names.

Westbrook wasn't highly regarded coming out of highschool and ended up being one the best players in the NBA.
I'm not saying this Balamou kid is going to turn out like that, but you never know superior athletes will develop over time. We need cogs like this.

Welcome to SJU Felix,
Work hard to get a good education, and hopefully work just as hard on the court.
Enjoy your time here.

I'm just concerned about his academics...especially since Jason Smith is making contact with this kid...makes me think he is trying to get him to prep at Brewster

Just recently qualified.

His HS coach said he's eligible.

In the article on Zags, his HS coach states that he will be eligible to play college ball next year.

Balamou considered attending prep school next season but will instead head to St. John’s, said Our Savior assistant Eric Jaklitsch, who added that Balamou is qualified to play college ball.

just find it interesting that a few minutes ago jason smith became friends with him on FB... I didn't know they had any connection previously. I could be wrong though

Damn, Coach Smith's girl is fine!

I believe they just met up at Nationals. I think this could be a good thing. Smith's guy is Sampson and they will be teammates.

ok i didnt know that, so that could be a good thing...and yeah she is pretty hot

I hope this kid turns out to be a good solid recruit. Honestly, we need kids like him. We don't need 12 all stars. We do need 12 scholarship athletes so we can compete in the Big East. Hopefully, bigger fish like Sampson and Obekpa are next. Good luck Coach Lavin.

Everyone seems happy with the signing, and agrees that if this kid ends up being a good four-year player, it is well worth it. As I said on the other site, I believe, he ends up being a Paris Horne/C-Jack type, we'd all be thrilled. I think some of the lukewarm comments have to do with expecting more of a splash with the first verbal since Branch. If Felix had given his verbal after Sampson or CO, it would be received with praise across the board.
