I'd also like to know the status of Owens ankle. Depaul has some big bodies. We will need him.

DW gave us solid minutes last night, but 1) he lost his man under the basket several times while providing help "d"; and 2) he was clearly winded - not at all ready for 20 minutes. I imagine the fatigue is a big reason he missed those two free throws at the end.

Agree, I think Williams can only be effective at this point for short spurts. Hopefully the fatigue lessens in time, he does give us a little post presence offensively.

Looks like Paultz is feeling good about Mcmurray from USF. I guess that's a good thing? .....

Actually prefer LoVett to stick around than take a chance on this kid. Since Matt really likes him & knows more than me, I defer. :)

Sprint not a marathon for Williams. 3-5 minutes at a time. Max effort for as long as he can then a quick sub. Likely the best way to get the most out of his energy.

It will be interesting to see how he is used when he returns. We have three guards who are better players than him. Two of those three are small, as he is, but also much better than him. Watching last nights game there was not one time I thought, "too bad we do not have Mussini available."

I wish him no further bad health but hope when he returns he has reduced minutes. The last two games he didn't play and the defense was the best we have played. Those things are not totally correlated, but I don't think they are mutually exclusive either.

Not starting him was def some sort of punishment but have to give both Mullin and Lovett credit for not making a big deal out of it.
IMO Lovett pouted a little in 1st half as I think he only took one or two shots. Just my opinion and it is something I once did in HS so maybe just me

Not trying to kill the kid & realize he can be helpful in spots, but it is addition by subtraction on defensive end for sure.

Lovett was the most animated and excited player after the game. He was vocally leading the celebration on the court. Maybe he was just excited and its wishful thinking on my part but he didn't have the look of someone who is thinking about leaving and did look like he got over the benching.

You jumping on the "bash-Mussini" bandwagon???? If so, I must warn you that an Italian meal together is completely out of the question ;)

You, sir, get it.

Ellison is improving. Bigger and better defender. I see Mussinis role diminishing and his primary purpose being to provide offense w his 3 pt shooting and playing at the end next of close games for his foul shooting. This may sound like an unkind thing to say. But in an ideal world Lovett stays and we swap Mussini for the S,Fl. Kid.

Don't think the SoFla kid would go for that swap

In my ideal world, Lovett stays and Simon is a talented team-first guy who gets plenty of minutes at the 1, 2, and 3, and we run all over teams. Mussini gets a contract with the sr. version off his old club in Italy and everyone is happy come March 2018.

IN an ideal world. Lovett stays and we get a JC AA big or Brown qualifies .I think if Lovett stays we are a quality big away from a very good team next year.

I think Matt has a 5th-year transfer contingency plan already in place. He's the anti-Lavin in that respect.

Lovett is our only tru pg at this point. If McMurray comes i nown, he wouldn't be eligible until 2nd semester of next year. It would save this board the palpitations of seeing Ellison run the point when Lovett is out, or having Ponds taken from his natural scoring role at the two. Even if Lovett stays around for another year, there is no logjam at the one.

I get the feeling that Ellison if asked would say he is the best player on the team. I think Ahmed might believe that as well

Notwithstanding my obvious bias, let me just go on record as saying that if Mussini sticks around, IMO there's a productive roll on this team for him over the next couple of years. Yes he'll always have challenges defensively, so the staff will have to figure out how to use him accordingly, but the kid is only half way in to his sophomore year and will continue to grow as a player. He's got court smarts and obviously can shoot, plus he's a spirited and unselfish kid who by all accounts is a good teammate and representative of the school. Plenty of high D1 teams have kids with similar skills sets and limitations, and figure out how to find useful rolls for them. Lets not push him out the door so quickly.

BTW did anyone see during first couple minutes there was a loose ball and for some reason Ellison jumped over it instead of reaching down and picking it up? Was very confused by it. Like he thought it was a bomb or something.

Good kid, good attitude, no doubt. But the one thing he brings to the table--potentially having a hot night as a shooter--wasn't needed in either of our last 2 victories. The question in my mind is: Is he the biggest liability we have on the defensive end? I think he is, and I don't think there is a lot he/coaching staff can do about it.

It may be moot, because it appears that staff is recruiting over him. With Simon, LoVett or USF kid, Ellison and Ponds, he would be fifth wheel, no? Still want that dinner though. :)

Kid Lewis on Butler sure seemed like a defensive liability to me, but somehow his coach figured out how to work around that. Gonzaga consistently seems to have kids like Mussini. Having defenders behind you, and teammates who know how and when to help, is certainly a plus. Mussini has neither of those right now. Maybe this is the wrong team for his skills and limitations. But unlike others on here, I still think that he can play at this level.
