Doesn't look like Federico Mussini (infection) will play for St. John's in Big East opener. Thursday Could be out a few weeks. #Sjubb
Did he get Zika or something ?

He read this board. :)

Or....Italian boy+American girl=mononucleosis :p

Ahh. The kissing disease

Just what he needs -- to lose more weight. If it is in fact mono, he'll likely be out a minimum of four total weeks, if not longer.

This is not good news. We have three guards now. Little room for error. Playing big is not a great option either. Freudenberg will see a lot of minutes.

Hope the kid gets better soon, he's demonstrated nothing but a good attitude at SJU.
That said, his absence in the Syracuse game was not exactly a liability.

One Mussini has demonstrated against all competition is the ability to heat up and sustain it for tem minutes or more, drilling big shots in the second half when on. Any criticism about not getting his shot off has to do with trying to create shots off the dribble, and not his ability to catch and shoot with a quick release. The biggest mistake is to give Mussini room from the perimeter, because if he drains 2 in a row, he generally gets on a roll. I would take him in a heartbeat over Ellison, although as compared to Ponds and Lovett, Mussini doesn't possess the quickness and ability to penetrate. It's makes him a more limited commodity but at this level still a valuable one.

Hope he gets well soon. We are better with than without him

Braziller responded that Mussini's infection isn't mono fwiw.

Then it must be Stereo. ;)
Whatever it is can't be serious because he partied all weekend with Italian friends visiting the city.

That doesn't mean anything except for one thing - he's in college. Nothing stops them.

All this talk about infections and defections has me even more on edge than normal

Still no Mussini last night against Butler. Although they won the last two without him they could definitely use him as the Big East season gets going. Does anyone have insight into a timetable for his return to the court?

He was dressed and on the bench so clearly not infectious and clearly feeling well enough to be in attendance and root his teammates on.

I'd also like to know the status of Owens ankle. Depaul has some big bodies. We will need him.

DW gave us solid minutes last night, but 1) he lost his man under the basket several times while providing help "d"; and 2) he was clearly winded - not at all ready for 20 minutes. I imagine the fatigue is a big reason he missed those two free throws at the end.

Agree, I think Williams can only be effective at this point for short spurts. Hopefully the fatigue lessens in time, he does give us a little post presence offensively.

Not sure why Amar was getting minutes over him. Now to be fair I thought Williams stunk, but only got to see him in short spurts and I am not getting paid to figure those things out anyway.

Looks like Paultz is feeling good about Mcmurray from USF. I guess that's a good thing? .....

Amar entered game, was playing a guy twenty feet from basket & the guy head faked him toward concession stand. He bit & guy cut to basket and scored uncontested. Of course I embarrassed my self yelling "Get him the F out of there" surrounded by kids. Oh well.

Possibly I was watching a different Williams. I thought he had good stamina for a sub and felt he helped out on defense better then we saw up to now. As to AA he is our best big on the press without burning out Owens

The more positive Paultz feels about McMurray, the more likely I feel that Lovett won't be here next year. So double edged sword I guess.
