Dwayne Morgan Visiting SJU

This is Matt's field of expertise. He helped shape Iowa St. into one of the most exciting programs in the country by bringing in reclamation projects, and as far as I know, no one was a repeat offender while there. If he judges his character to be a safe bet to take a chance on, then I'm 100 percent behind the move.

It would be super lame for all parties involved though if we go through all the work and Bobby G. or another higher-up vetoes it like what happened with Anthony Livingston.

I'm fine with it too, but Matt also found Zach Brown to be a safe bet. Just sayin'.

He wasn't a transfer, though. Plus, I don't think Matt thought Brown was a safe bet. But it was a bet they felt they needed to take to advance the program. Failed miserably, of course.

That's kind of what I was getting at. Would this have to be run through the SJU ethics committee first to determine if it's acceptable to have someone who committed a crime join our team?

I don't know all the details obviously, but a disorderly conduct charge after getting into a dispute with a cab driver isn't exactly the start of a life a crime. We recruited ms Zach Brown after far worse.

I read a quote from the UNLV coach who suspended him that the arrest was not an isolated event. The kid clearly had issues. Hopefully they're in the past

I guess the point I was getting at was that there is always a certainly element of risk involved with kids who have had brushes with the law. Obviously both the risk and potential reward were much higher with Brown than with Morgan. And while I fully supporting bringing Morgan on board, I would stop short of calling him a "safe bet" just because Matt and the staff feels that he is worth a shot.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that the kid had other run-ins with the law, only that there were apparentlly behavioral issues that preceded that event.

Hopefully he won't be here long enough to get into trouble. Worth the gamble.

Come on Monte Zach Brown was never a safe bet. He had plenty of issues that everyone knew about. Changing schools, getting into fights, Deplorable home life. However, because of his talent, Matt took a shot at him .

Now, if you have a problem with Matt's recruiting, talk about that. Someone else stated that Matt's forte is reclamation projects, smh. Is Shamorie a reclamation project, how about Yawke or Keita. Marcus Lovett had problems with his school work but since he has been here he has conducted himself as a gentleman. Owens, Simon, and Clark are transfers but none of them has caused any problems at their prior schools or at St. Johns.

Two years ago, we had absolutely nothing. Now we have what appears to be a competitive team, have secured a commitment from Roberts, are involved with some high level recruits, and some on here are trying to find fault with the program.

I am going to sit back and enjoy the season.

Great post Panther. Although I'm sure Monte didn't mean it is a slight at matt.

Potential depth issues aside, this is most talented roster 1-6 ive seen at sju sense ive been a fan. Ponds and Lovett could be best player on any sju team since hatten and we have them both.

Absolutely Panther!
We don't have this, we don't have that,
We do not have Sidney Wilson who may or may not work out for UConn
But we do have a choice
A choice to appreciate how far Chris Mullin & Co have brought our program in a mere 2 1/3 years
Appreciate our starting players and whatever bench exists
Appreciate and enjoy 2017-18 as is with a host of kids... drumroll...
WHO WANT TO BE HERE
all the best

Just for full disclosure if Morgan was 6 ft 3 and averaging 2 rebounds a game I would be taking the fake moral high ground and saying we shouldn't be taking the risk ☺️

MJ i am sure we all agree with you. The fact is hiscoach awarded too many ships for this season. Morgan's transgression made it easy for the coach to select who would not be back. HIs commitment would fill a glaring need for us at a time when there are really no other options. Once again if the kid misbehaves we used an available ship for one semester. Upside could be very high. To me this is a no brainer.

Panther where exactly did I knock Matt? I said countless times before, and repeated it on this thread, that Zach was a risk worth taking. And if you had read my follow up post about Morgan before letting your blood start boiling, you'll see that I clarified my OP. I have also said from the get go that Morgan was a risk worth taking and have always said that I trust the staff to make decisions with regard to talent level and character. I've lauded them for bringing on such great kids. I have been and continue to be one of his and the staff's biggest supporters. Please don't cherry pick my posts and accuse me attacking Matt over his recruiting. That could not be further from the case. Amase seems to be the only one on this board who actually got what I was saying.

Agree completely.I want this kid bad and hope he gets the medical redshirt where we could get him for another year too

I'll be ecstatic if we get him

Nah I knew what you were saying and you have been more than fair to the staff.

I was for Zach too. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Would rather take a risk on a kid with huge upside rather than a 2 star kid. It's when your entire team is full of character risk takers where you will really run into a problem but that isn't the case with our guys
