Dwayne Morgan Visiting SJU

Even if he wasn't 6'8" and didn't average 7.3 rebounds in 23 mpg last year, he might be a worthwhile add given we only have 9 scholarship players available, and there's still 2 months before the season starts for that availability to get even more interesting as it sometimes does in the fall for this program.

But he's 6'8" and averaged 7.3 rebounds in 23 mpg last year. Assuming no legal, character, academic or other concerns, could have gotten excited about him as the grad transfer big back in the spring, let alone now.

To put this into context, our leading rebounders last year - and I consider them to be good rebounders - were Bashir with 5.3 in 26 mpg and TO with 5.2 in 18 mpg. This would be much needed help in an area we could use it.

Dwayne appears to be ahead of schedule academic wise. Kid comes from good sports background whose parents were both athletes. His offensive game, unlike his academics, is behind schedule but we eed him for defense and rebounding. If he actually graduates he is a steal at this stage of recruiting. If his offense improves he just may be enough to put us in post season contention because with our lack of depth we are borderline NIT.
This player would have bigger impact than Sid Wison in Big East play who needs to adjust mentally and physically to college.
Agreed. This would take the sting out of the Wilson nonsense

Six months ago most posters felt the primary need for SJU was a front court player with immediate eligibility who could rebound and play defense. When the staff struck out filling this slot we were all disappointed and thought the staff had blown the opportunity to compete for an NCAA bid.
I don't know how good this recruit is but based on need he is a most important piece to this season's team. Hopefully everything works out.

This kid is an athletic, former top 15 recruit at a position we really need. He's also eligible for bulk of season and is good defender and rebounder. It would be like divine intervention to land a kid like this at this point. Would really bolster our front court.

+1 , +1

It was mentioned on a radio show in LV that Morgan may be granted an injury redshirt for last year which would mean he could play 1.5 years for SJU, if it was mutually beneficial.

This story references UNLVs previous intentions to petition for a medical year.

Is there any concern over his arrest earlier this year?

According to reports it was just a one time thing.[/quote

Understood, but I was just wondering if that would scare anyone off. It was a pretty serious situation.

UNLV basketball player Dwayne Morgan tried to get into a police car, “thinking he could use it to drive home,” before being arrested May 6 for disorderly conduct, according to a report released Tuesday by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Morgan, 21, was arrested at about 6:40 a.m. on the misdemeanor charge after getting into a dispute with a cabdriver. He received a summons to appear in court at a later date.

Disguised as a cab :)

he was arrested when he tried getting in the passenger side. As far as I'm concerned after trying to get in the first police car to no avail he was just trying to get a ride home

Sign him now

My spider sense is tingling...telling me that alcohol may have been involved. It's ok, he's 21.

This is Matt's field of expertise. He helped shape Iowa St. into one of the most exciting programs in the country by bringing in reclamation projects, and as far as I know, no one was a repeat offender while there. If he judges his character to be a safe bet to take a chance on, then I'm 100 percent behind the move.

It would be super lame for all parties involved though if we go through all the work and Bobby G. or another higher-up vetoes it like what happened with Anthony Livingston.

I'm still pissed over that and he had a drama free year as far as I can recall.

Morgan went back to class after all this, That speaks about character too

Close the deal
