Dwayne Morgan Visiting SJU

If there is one thing we always have, it's available scholarships. I mean even if he gets a redshirt and stays for a year and 1/2 I'd be willing to bet we lose one or more players to transfer, going pro, or sick of basketball. Happens every year to every program (just much more frequently to us.)

No thanks. Think we can do better.

The way we have struggled over the last two decades, I would fathom that we are in no position to turn away a former 5-star recruit that too has shown a propensity to rebound on the college level and seems to have gotten stronger since 2014.

IMHO it would be a headscratcher if we were not all over this guy at this point in our rebuild. With great guard play, if this guy only grabs loose ball rebounds it would be an immense help. Our best games last year were when we got some scrappy play out of Darien Williams. Morgan is light years more talented than injury riddled DW.

Hoping this works out in our favor

Geez! Looks like I'm taking a beating on this one. :(

Maybe I'm still suffering from post-Sidney-Wilson stress disorder and not seeing things as clearly as I should. Whatever. Bottom line: whatever the staff decides is good enough for me.

SSG dropping a hundie! Lobster rolls on him! :)

Our Achilles heal is depth, especially in the big dept. Don't need him to be a star, just provide valuable minutes. Hope we land him.

How about this alternative SI 1996
Hot dogs for all at alumni hall? I'll let you know when I'm at a game

I was checking out his original recruitment. He was a major recruit with offers from schools like AZ, Ykuon, G'town, SHU, Florida, MD and others. UNLV fans had really high expectations but blame the previous coaching staff for overall program failure and lack of player dev. If he comes and shines at St. John's it would be a feather for Mullin & Co. Also played for same AAU squad as Tariq Owens. 247 had him as composite #23 overall nationally and ESPN #39

Even if he wasn't 6'8" and didn't average 7.3 rebounds in 23 mpg last year, he might be a worthwhile add given we only have 9 scholarship players available, and there's still 2 months before the season starts for that availability to get even more interesting as it sometimes does in the fall for this program.

But he's 6'8" and averaged 7.3 rebounds in 23 mpg last year. Assuming no legal, character, academic or other concerns, could have gotten excited about him as the grad transfer big back in the spring, let alone now.

To put this into context, our leading rebounders last year - and I consider them to be good rebounders - were Bashir with 5.3 in 26 mpg and TO with 5.2 in 18 mpg. This would be much needed help in an area we could use it.

Was ranked higher than Wilson. Will be an upperclassman and stronger. Gotta start winning . Improvement is a must.

If we land Morgan, with Clark's ability to shoot form the outside, we can play Clark at the SF with Morgan at the PF spot and play big with Owens at C and Somon at PG Ahmed at the 2. There are many lineup options that all of sudden become available with Clark in the fold. I hope we get him.

As I mentioned in another thread, my only concern would be tbe fact that he would be playing in December without the benefit of formally practicing for quite some time and familiarizing himself with our system. That said, would be a tremendous get given the timing. Akin to pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Really have to credit the staff for remaining active.

I think Morgan is the player to be named later in the Christian Jones deal.

Seems like similar production throughout each of their careers

Matt's solid relationship with Team Melo is quite helpful in this equation, not to mention Tariq Owens & dad's enormous happiness with SJU.

Not true. Jones was awfull his first 2 years. Was a 2 star recruit out of HS.

Looks aren't everything, or so I have been told, but he def passes the eye test. We get pushed around way too much. We need more of a physical presence upfront.

Jones was also supposed to be the most impressive player coming out of practice his first year. Apparently he was a great practice player but for the most part in did not translate into production in games.

The player to be named later comment is more about the production they provided during their respective collegiate careers, not where they were ranked coming out of high school.

Jones was a disappointment here and Morgan has been so far at UNLV.

Dwayne appears to be ahead of schedule academic wise. Kid comes from good sports background whose parents were both athletes. His offensive game, unlike his academics, is behind schedule but we eed him for defense and rebounding. If he actually graduates he is a steal at this stage of recruiting. If his offense improves he just may be enough to put us in post season contention because with our lack of depth we are borderline NIT.
This player would have bigger impact than Sid Wison in Big East play who needs to adjust mentally and physically to college.

Kid was averaging 9/7 last year against decent D1 comp? And he's eligible in Dec?

Nah, let's look at under-the-radar 2018 forwards.

Stop making sense, it just confuses them.
