Dominic Artis, Oregon Transfer

One thing consistent in all the interviews is that they stopped when she started to cry.

So they got that going for them, which is nice.

Nothing like a happy ending, so to speak.

Last season we had multiple players suspended, we had Jakarr Sampson wrap his hand around a Robert Morris' players throat. The year before we had our best player suspended for home-stretch of games, Dom Pointer sucker punched a kid during a game, and a few years back 3 of our players were declared academically ineligible. We do not have the cleanest of images as a program under Steve Lavin. Programs take these types of players ONCE IN A WHILE but look at what has happened with our players that hes brought in over the last 4 years. Not worth it.

Sampson and Pointer 'blew up' during a game, and Harrison wears his emotion on his sleeve when he's on the hardwood. Neither of those players has ever had any issues off the court. So, let's not exaggerate circumstances to make a point.

No way, I condone what took place with the female. If it was actually a sexual assault, then move on. If it was nothing more than a gangbang, then bring him in. The staff has more than likely performed due diligence on this one. In no way, I think they would bring him in for a visit without doing so.

But you are condoning it if you're rewarding Artis with a scholarship and uniform, no?

Artis wasn't convicted. He wasn't even charged. The key to this: there was no evidence to suggest she was so drunk she was impaired to give consent. (See the prosecutor's meticulous reasoning here:http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2014/05/lane_county_district_attorney.html)

So for the sake of argument, let's assume the worst about the woman. The bulk of her statement to the police is a lie. The statements by everyone else - including the three players - are true and complete. Let's say she is indeed the biggest punata on campus or on the entirety of the West Coast and that for whatever reason she had a vindictive motive in going to the police .

Does that excuse Artis' actions? Do we still want a player representing the university in its most high profile area who thinks it's okay to treat a slightly drunken woman that way just because she let them?

Who cares how he treats this woman? He didn't do anything criminal. This broad exposed his private life for her own benefit. To nobody's surprise everyone came out a loser.

If everyone on here had their sexual escapades revealed I'm sure most wouldn't be too proud. I for one enjoy demeaning women and having them return the favor. But purely in a 1 on 1 capacity!

Just because I'm not a fan of a consensual gangbang doesn't mean I think he isn't deserving of a scholarship and uniform. In high school, I wasn't a fan of one of my offensive linemen behavior on the field (ie, things he would say and do to the opposition), but that didn't mean I wanted him off the team. A personal preference, so to speak. The same goes with Artis' situation. If it wasn't consensual, then it's an assault. If it was consensual, then it was group sex. Neither is appropriate, while one of 'em is against the law. But to another person, one of 'em would be appropriate in their world.

No, it doesn't excuse Artis' actions (IMO), but if it was a consensual gangbang, then go after him. Do your homework on the situation, and go from there.

Ha!

Some of 'em like to be "demeaned" (in their own particular way) behind closed doors, and like you stated, in a one-on-one capacity.

Let me be the first to start the distasteful Artis jokes. I hear he's really good at double teaming when you least expect it.

Let me ask a different question: Why do we even need this guy? He's a small guard, did not really distinguish himself at Oregon and we are loaded with guards, at least this coming year. Can you tell me why we need him? Is it because we're afraid we lose all our guards after this year and struck out in recruiting?

And the other stuff would DQ him for me anyway.

Like I said earlier. I don't want Artis most because I don't think he's any good. Sure he was the 8th best PG in his class but it was a brutal PG class.

As far as the stuff with that girl. She had ample opportunities to get herself out of the situation. The first incident happened during a party where they let her leave the bathroom to get a drink of water. She didn't have to go back in or she could have caused a scene there. Then when they left the party and were outside she was back with her friends and didn't have to get in the taxi to go to Artis' apartment. After crying and them stopping that night, she had sex with Artis in the morning again. Then less than 24 hours later she had sex with Joseph Young.

I'm not saying he's not a scumbag and took advantage of both his status as a basketball player and girl who over-consumed alcohol. But the whole story is sketchy. She didn't want to report anyone. It was her dad who found out and called the police to get this ball rolling.

MJD, Sirvoo may just be describing marriage. If a man says something and no woman is around to hear it, is he still wrong?

I'll ask another question
Why wouldn't Lavin do his "due diligence" and research the situation BEFORE agreeing to host Artis on a visit?
Lavin would look foolish if Artis visits, likes what he sees, verbally commits and is then told that he is not welcomed as a student-athlete at St John's

Who cares how he treats this woman?

Well, for one, the University of Oregon.

"The type of behavior in the police report is utterly unacceptable and will not be tolerated," Gottfredson said. (prez)

"It was very clear to us that we didn't want them representing our organization," Mullens said. (AD)

Artis had a previous nine game suspension at Oregon, granted for lesser issue. (Selling sneakers on EBay) To be run off at Oregon, you usually have to commit a felony against one of Phil Knight's family members. All in all, too many red flags for me. Someone else will take him. The notion that SJU would ruin his life by not giving him a chance is absurd.

Hey Gil... well said.

Like I thought....

Guess I was wrong.
@NYPost_Brazille: I'm told the Dominic Artis visit to St John's began yesterday and is going very well. #sjubb

If we get him, I'm not looking forward to see the student section signs or chants when we are on the road
Hope he has a thick skin - he may need it!!

As a freshmen he averaged 9 points 3 assists 1.5 steals in 24 minutes. made 34 3's on 36% shooting. He had a sophomore slump but had off the court issues and a real solid guard in front of him. His off the court troubles can be debated but he is very talented. Super quick and someone who can get into the lane.

@NYPost_Brazille: On Dominic Artis told he will take a few more visits and St John's higher ups would have to sign off on him, which has yet to happen. #sjubb

May make him look foolish but it would help him maintain his rep as a "great recruiter".
