Dominic Artis, Oregon Transfer

Getting folks like rawdog to stop using the word sloot would be a good first step in stopping this kind of situation. In this male dominated world most men, and many women, find it strangely discomforting, and almost threatening, that some women actually enjoy sex and promiscuity as much as any fraternity brother. Here's a quick fact, women orgasm too and they can do it better and enjoy it just as much. The stigma that goes along with this type of behavior is unfair to those women who are shamed by their friends and peers when generally very little or no such disdain is tossed at the average male exhibiting the same type of behavior.

If it went down as described by the players attorneys, and I'm not saying it did, then it was the pressure of her friends and potentially her family, and the trashing of her image and stature in her social circle, that drove her to reject her behavior and make accusations that may not have been true and that's not fair to her or the players. It wouldn't be the hundredth time this has happened.

Ahhhh c'mon man. Sloot isn't even that harsh of a word. I couldn't care less if she banged 20 guys that night. I'm not judging her. I'm referring basically to what society would label her as being a slut/whore/easy etc. I think it's silly that a guy is a stud if he hooks up with 3 girls in a night, but a girl is a whore for doing the same. To each their own. Morally speaking I think they're all disgusting and I hope my son's never act this way and treat women with respect. I think I've taught them as much. However I'm just calling it how I think society views it. Let's be honest though, would you marry the girl known for bangin the Oregon Bball team? She made her bed and now doesn't want to lay in it.

I believe austour was clownin', Raw. Nevertheless, I think the both of you made solid points in your respective posts.

MJ, what could I possibly have been clowning about. Maybe I didn't know how Raw really felt (til his pursuant response) since I don't know him but the balance of my sentiments were entirely on the up and up. Not sure how you could take that any other way.

I thought you were clownin' on the way he was using the word, "sloot," and not your overall post. If not, then I stand corrected.

This thread has reached its end since Artis is apparently no longer a target. However, the coed and coeds that make themselves readily available for sex must share any blame. In the Oregon case these teens were tarred and feathered and as the full disclosures were leaked it was apparent no rape took place and that the girl was not only complicit but initiated the adventure. Having had sex with three athletes, going home with them for more, having sex in front of nonparticipating eyewitnesses and then having sex again with another friend who was "consoling" her indicates this young lady has serious sexual problems that border on stupidity and nymphomania. Dominic Aritis is now defamed for life as a result of this and it would be just reward if the "victim" was as well publicized as the wrongly accused.

"Stopping this kind of situation"? If the players were honest, as in your hypothetical, this girl is selfish and morally bankrupt to ruin three lives for the sake of her reputation. How do you stop that? And as far as women enjoying sex, they obviously do, but they don't have the same need as men. 99% of strip clubs are for men...even male strips clubs are mostly for gay men. The prostitution business is booming in every country in the world and has been since the beginning of time. Nearly all of the customers are male....straight or gay. The link between promiscuity in women and mental illness and/or a history of mollestation is very strong. Most men are dumb enough to think a promiscuous woman "wants the D" when they only see their self worth in terms of their attractiveness and sexuality.

The thing I hate about this entire thread are posts that convict Artis of a crime, and conversely, those that accuse the girl of being complicit. The truth is none of us know how this went down, how drunk the girl was, or anything other than the subjective description of the events by the complainant and the three guys involved.

Artis' lawyer is going to release self serving statements and depictions to protect his client.

The school rightfully banned the guys from campus to protect the girl who otherwise would be subjected to being around a campus where she would be uncomfortable or worse have any negative interaction with these guys in the future (which would make the school liable). The school did the only reasonable thing it could have done.

St. John's did the prudent thing - pass on this kid.

If he has D1 talent, schools willing to taking a chance will do so under the risk/reward scenario. The more desperate the program, the more likely he will find a landing spot at a good basketball school. The same could be said for the sleazier the program. Unfortunately, if Artis is 100% innocent, and went along with something some people would find distasteful but not illegal, he will suffer the consequence. He will get a shot at redemption, though, and hopefully make the best of that.

Re the girl, yes you are right, if it played out how the defense says it does the girl is obviously in the wrong, I didn't say she wasn't but maybe I made it seem like I condoned her poor judgement. In a proper world she'd just own her mistakes, if she sees them as such and if she doesn't see them as mistakes then just get on with her life. Clearly in the morning she didn't originally see her actions as a mistake until friends started getting involved. And that's where outside pressures, which should be ignored, end up causing problems in cases such as these. If society didn't attack and denigrate her, and those like her, for her actions it would be easier for her to not succumb to whatever made her change her statements on the evening's events. Slut shaming is wrong, plain and simple. That's what I'm saying.

Disagree with your premises on female sexuality, most of what you cite is more a byproduct of a historically male dominated, patriarchal, misogynistic society than science, except in that in the beginning science made men physically superior and they've flexed that muscle ever since.

I assume that's from Boogie Nights, didn't bother checking. Great freaking movie by the way. And also assume it was a joke. But since so many, like Dlo, fail to get the humor in your posts I'll simply say that acting in a porno, or acting in a movie like you're acting in a porno, and consensual sex are pretty much the same thing, right?

I don't agree with shaming of any kind. I also think men and women should be as close to equals as possible, but I will not pretend like there are no differences. We are here today as a species because men slept around and women nurtured their young. That is biologically engrained in us, but in 2014 we should be smart enough to overcome those instincts. I don't think women sleeping around is natural. I don't think men sleeping around is anything to celebrate either. There is something very unattractive to me about women that sleep around--even if they are gorgeous. The same way a woman becomes unattractive when I find out she smokes. I completely understand if a woman thinks a man is gross for sleeping around as well.
