To be fair it wasn't posters on RMDC who proclaimed DH a leader. It was someone with a little more pull:

“Because he’s in a leadership role, he’s going to be held to a high standard, and those who are given much, much is expected from,” Lavin said. “D’Angelo has demonstrated the ability to be the leader we know he’s capable of being."

C'mon, you know that is coachtalk. It was as much calling Harrison to be a leader than anything else. Actually I think Harrison does have the personna to lead, as opposed to being the guy who follows. It would have been interesting to see how he responded if we had a senior presence who would take him to task and chide him for his indiscretions on the court and off. Obviously by his behavior, he didn't act as a leader, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does clean up his act, and returns to the team that by the time he is a senior, he is considered a leader that guys get behind.

See Frank Robinson in baseball - a notorious pain in the butt as a player and considered a troublemaker.
See Kevin Williams at SJU - a street tough guy, who showed the team we could stand up to Ewing and the Hoyas.

My gut reaction to the interview is Harrison will leave.

Same here.

He left the door wide open for him to leave. That wasn't a ringing endorsement for a player that you want back.

When you start talking best opportunities available elsewhere for a kid who is your leading scorer, that doesn't sound like you're holding the door open for him.

I say D'Lo and possibly 2 others don't come back next year.

Don't disagree. If it does happen who's available? Junior College talent?

In the absence of facts Harrison's suspension is another black eye for the program. A lot of kids watched him play and admired his toughness. Allowing for his high strung nature I never saw any game conduct that would warrant a season ending suspension. Some may talk about body language but watch the mocking smile on Obekpa's face after every call and tell me about it. Some claim to have inside knowledge on this and I'd be very happy to hear it and change my position if warranted. Until that happens all we have to work with is a season destroying decision by a coach under a cloud of secrecy. There's no way that's good for business and the fans deserve to hear the truth for the money they paid.

Reports are that he loudly cursed out Rico Hines in Syracuse within earshot of fans sitting courtside. This was while Lavin had entrusted the head coaching reponsbilities to Hines while Lavin was attending his father's funeral. As reported, the suspension was not for a single event, but reportedly that outburst was the culmination of a series of negative events which include profane outbursts on the court and in practice, as well as late to team bus and practices. Why do you insist on ignoring what his been reported to spam redmen.com with negative commentary on the coach and program. As far as I see it, a coach who puts behavior by any individual above his ability to help the basketball team is a class guy who elevates our program, not defames it.

If he truly cursed out Hines then he should never been allowed back in the Cuse game or even playing in the next game. He should have been sent directly to the locker room; Hines had to wait until Lavin returned?

One may recall the famous story where UCLA had an enforced dress code which prohibited facial hair. Bill Walton came back to school one fall, and meeting with Wooden, announced that he was going to exercise his constitutional rights as an individual, and was keeping his beard in defiance of team policy. Wooden replied, "Bill, I really respect your ability to stand up for what you believe in. It takes a lot of character to do so. The team is going to miss you." Walton showed up the next day clean shaven.

Rules are for everyone.

The national JUCO showcase is in late April. There should be a bunch of nice uncommitted players there.

I like JUCOs. I watched a Marshall game earlier in the year and they have a bunch of them who would thrive in our system. I also think because of their age, they'd brig a lot of maturity and play with more desperation.

I've mainly stayed out of this conversation on Harrison, as I feel things will sort itself out in a couple of months.

OTOH, what else should you expect from him? He's also been spamming for the past week. He rarely responds to anything that soundly shoots down any of his diatribes. He'll deflect and turn it into some other rant.

Besides, he clearly has an ax to grind, so anything he says should definitely be taken with a grain of salt.
I find the "pg dn" key to be very effective

I stand behind what you quoted and repeat that I did not see game conduct by DLo that many of his detractors have been reporting. When people invent things like that just because they don't like the kid it sucks. Now THAT's an axe to grind. I have no problem with DLo the player. I do have problems with Lavin's coaching and personnel decisions and I'm not alone in that. Perhaps if he was doing his job as well as DLo was doing his (3rd leading scorer in the league) I'd feel different about things. Ultimately the stats will tell the story. Not rumors, theories or BS.

Again, since game conduct had little to do with the suspension and you were not privy to huddle, practice, team meeting, etc. behavior, we have nothing more than another bobre/Rod Serling alternate universe take on the situation. Aways nice of you to bring a few laughs to an otherwise mundane board. Amazing how the coaching staff bought into suspending Harrison for no reason other than a bunch of knuckleheaded posters commented on behavior that never existed just because they didn't like him!! Where is the National Enquirer when you need it; here is a group of posters who have perfected a mass on-line hypnosis technique that can actually pinpoint a very specific audience. Very surprised they wasted it on SJU basketball; imagine what Romney would have paid for it.

Announcers during the Marquette game today pretty much said that he will be back next year.

He is also at the game today.....not typically the actions of someone who wants out of the program, or of someone whom the coaches don't want there....

I'm glad to hear it, both for Harrison and Lavin. It's a good sign Harrison wanted to be there, and a good sign for Lavin who could have banned him from games if he wanted to banish him

I did not see him but being at the game means nothing. Why would Lavin ban him from attending a game? From what I hear he has a long ways to go to get back on the team and had Marco not shot like D'Lo this game, this could have been a W.

For starters, I have no idea why you even mentioned Marco and his shooting performance versus Marquette. He has absolutely nothing to do with this topic,

Secondly, I don't think Lavin can technically ban him from the game. He can not allow him to sit with the team, but I don't see how he could ban him from the game.DLo would just have to get a ticket on his own, which is what he did.

Thirdly, I think him being at the game is a great sign. If he were ready to leave and give up on this team, why would he attend the game? But whether or not Lavin allows him to come back is an entirely different story......

NEWS FLASH-----Marco takes all those shots because D'Angelo Harrison worked his way OFF the team. See any correlation??? The other correlation was his shooting the same %%% as Harrison, around .25%, in a Big East game.
But thanks for keeping me "on topic"!

first off...the announcers rarely know what they're talking about. they're just filling dead air. second...harrison was at the game with an EXTREMELY beautiful young lady. maybe it was a chance to impress.

he looked like he was enjoying the game...for a change.
