And so many of you call him a leader because he could make a jumper?
To be fair it wasn't posters on RMDC who proclaimed DH a leader. It was someone with a little more pull:
“Because he’s in a leadership role, he’s going to be held to a high standard, and those who are given much, much is expected from,” Lavin said. “D’Angelo has demonstrated the ability to be the leader we know he’s capable of being."
C'mon, you know that is coachtalk. It was as much calling Harrison to be a leader than anything else. Actually I think Harrison does have the personna to lead, as opposed to being the guy who follows. It would have been interesting to see how he responded if we had a senior presence who would take him to task and chide him for his indiscretions on the court and off. Obviously by his behavior, he didn't act as a leader, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does clean up his act, and returns to the team that by the time he is a senior, he is considered a leader that guys get behind.
See Frank Robinson in baseball - a notorious pain in the butt as a player and considered a troublemaker. ...
As the late Sen. Lloyd Bentsen might say: I remember Frank Robinson. I saw Frank Robinson play. D'Angelo Harrison is no Frank Robinson.
You are missing the point. Frank Robinson was branded a troublemaker, hence the trade for Milt Pappas. He was seen as surly, difficult to manage, and a pain in the butt. His tenure with the Orioles wasn't as negative. Upon retirement, he gradually got the reputation as a disciplinarian and leader, working in the commissioner's office and managing. People can change and mature if we give them a chance.
