D'Angelo Harrison

And so many of you call him a leader because he could make a jumper?

To be fair it wasn't posters on RMDC who proclaimed DH a leader. It was someone with a little more pull:

“Because he’s in a leadership role, he’s going to be held to a high standard, and those who are given much, much is expected from,” Lavin said. “D’Angelo has demonstrated the ability to be the leader we know he’s capable of being."

C'mon, you know that is coachtalk. It was as much calling Harrison to be a leader than anything else. Actually I think Harrison does have the personna to lead, as opposed to being the guy who follows. It would have been interesting to see how he responded if we had a senior presence who would take him to task and chide him for his indiscretions on the court and off. Obviously by his behavior, he didn't act as a leader, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does clean up his act, and returns to the team that by the time he is a senior, he is considered a leader that guys get behind.
See Frank Robinson in baseball - a notorious pain in the butt as a player and considered a troublemaker. ...

As the late Sen. Lloyd Bentsen might say: I remember Frank Robinson. I saw Frank Robinson play. D'Angelo Harrison is no Frank Robinson.

You are missing the point. Frank Robinson was branded a troublemaker, hence the trade for Milt Pappas. He was seen as surly, difficult to manage, and a pain in the butt. His tenure with the Orioles wasn't as negative. Upon retirement, he gradually got the reputation as a disciplinarian and leader, working in the commissioner's office and managing. People can change and mature if we give them a chance.

Speaking of which. Harrison seemed to be pretty happy with the hottie. SO he can't get along with a middle aged man, but he seems to get along with the ladies. All of you saying he needs to change his personality I think need to prioritize things a bit. See most of you have probably never actually spoken to a real girl, so I would suggest less time complaining about Harrison's eye rolls and more time working on your "game".

I got your point, Beast. My counterpoint, however veiled, was that a professional baseball franchise putting up with Frank Robinson's attitude problems -- a man who was, without question, one of MLB's all-time greats (and a winner, to boot), and a man who put lots of fannies in the seats -- until he matured into a leader (after how many years?) isn't the same as a college coach having to put up with the attitude problems of a 19-year-old kid who isn't one of college basketball's all-time greats and who so far hasn't won anything. That said, I don't disagree with the essence of your original post. I've always loved Harrison's passionate play and, like you, I'm hoping that he can clean up his act, get his temper under control, and come back to play a leadership role on this team. Not sure he will do it, or if he's even capable of doing it, but am hoping he does.

In the camera shots of Harrison, the young ladies were in the row in front of him. True, they knew when the camera was on them, but doubt they were "with" him.

The beautiful girl on Harrison's left was his girlfriend. She has been his girlfriend since he came to STJ and I believe she knew him previously and is from home. She goes to STJ as well.

How's her attitude?

Obviously she has no issues with his ;)

All the more reason for him to stay.

I like I'm sure the rest of this board was wondering in anything about dLO? Does anyone know him! Has he been working out? Thanks in advance

Totally agree!! We are not very good at all without him!!! Hopefully the first order of business this off season is working on the Lav and dlo relationship!!!

This team is going nowhere without Harrison

I hope a reconciliation is in the cards
No no no. Your program can not depend on one player, ever. Sanchez, CO, Pointer, Sampson, all have better ability. They all have a better chance of making the NBA. Look again. It's true. If he wants to get with the program i will admit he he has the no how to make a play in a big spot, so if he cares about his mates it would be nice to have him aboard. But always remember, one player never makes your program. Utah's stock dropped when Van horn went 2 in the draft. Well, they didn't make the final four with him, but did the year he left. He was a 6-10 center who boarded and knocked them down from the outside. Is Harrison , A Van Horn? Aren't you glad i told you that story?

WE need more than Dlo for success next yr

I'll gladly take my chances with Harrison, Jakar, Dom, Sanchez, Obekpa, Jordan, Branch, Greene, Amir, Jones, Balamou, Marco and Gift.

We need Jordan and Sanchez. However, Dlo is a major player that we need for sure. Don't understimate his value. He is very important.

Harrison was part of the problem......not part of the solution.
Maybe the only thing keeping him on campus this long after the boot is his girlfriend.
My thinking is they are both spending the offseason on Padre Island.

Harrison deserves this second chance, yes he is very immature but he needs guidance and I hope Lav and staff do the right, not just for this team but for this young mans future!!

True.

Unless the coaching staff has a hidden 4/5 star gem somewhere for next year.

Ugly, yes, but since when has this sport been pretty in that area?

Personally, I want Dlo to stay and work furiously on his game and show everyone what he is made of.

That's a win-win for everyone.

If D'Angelo's teammates are as good as you say, then please explain why the team (a) went 1-5 after suspending him (b) lost by 10+ points in 3 of those losses (c) scored an average of 55 ppg in that span.

Come on, I'm not saying the kid is Allen Iverson. But anybody ignoring the fact that he is essential to our offense is fooling themselves.

If Harrison comes back, which I find very likely, with Sanchez, we might be able to start some inside-outside game. We have not seen the full capability of this team. Playing together all summer will help get the teams chemistry flowing better.
