Curbelo (Possibly) a Johnny

That’s confusing. Whose in no rush, Curbelo and his handlers or SJU? If the latter, I’m not sure I understand why we wouldn’t want to move quickly.
Zach meant Curbelo and his people. Apparently Texas A&M amped up their pursuit. Fwiw, I still feel SJU lands him, but we’ll see.

The longer it drags on the worse our chances. Every time I get my hopes up they come crashing down. Curbelo has some flaws but the good far outweighs the bad.
In my opinion it’s already been dragging on too long. Doubt he comes here. Same old story. The staff will wait and wait only to be left at the alter and subsequently left scrambling for players as all the other guys they would have also been in on have already chosen other schools. Hope I’m dead wrong but you can see this coming

There's more than 1,200 players in the transfer portal, likely more to come, and many moving parts, with visits, etc. I think it is unrealistic to think a decision should/would/could be made in such short time after declaring.

Should Curbelo decide to go elsewhere.... I'm going to go with a ... "Posh/Pinzon/King triumvirate was just not appealing for a guy looking for a lot of PT".... ya... that sounds good

Why would Curbello come here? It would be detrimental to his career as the only position for him is pg.

I see us as a terrible fit for him and have no clue why he would want to come here.

1. He loves NY
2. He has friends here for support
3. He likes the style of play
4. Anderson has shown both guards get to bring the ball up court and facilitate the offense (unfortunately Dunn, Williams, Smith and to a lesser extent Wusu haven’t been good at the facilitating for others part).
5. Looking for a change and this might be it.

Obviously he is looking at us so hopefully the above or other factors sway him here.

The depth of your basketball knowledge, or lack of, shows in this one post. Good job. Quite extraordinary.

I get that MM2 and I agree with regard to all the players and moving parts etc. There are certain pool players you know you have shot with and if you have to wait and wait for the guy you really want and then don’t get him those other players or a lot of them anyway could have chosen other schools. 1200 players yes, how many of those do you realistically have a shot at, how many fit your system and how many can legitimately make impact at the Big East level.

I see Zach clarified. Curbelo is in no hurry. Sounds like it’s clearly not a done deal. Ugh
Common read remains he could commit to SJU this week, so I’ll go with that. Of course these things are fluid, but to me the fact he has not visited another school nor scribes have touted any other programs also gives me confidence. Sometimes things take a little longer than “lock” commentary as camps and programs agree on details. If there Is no closure over next week, I won’t keep moving goal post and will shut my mouth.

St. John's relegated itself to the second division of college basketball long before NILs.
And I'm still here.

And so lawmanfan doesn't yell at me: I think Curbelo is a gamble worth taking, a player who could potentially form a really dynamic (and fun) backcourt if he reverts back to freshman form.
Fans used to complain about blue bloods and the abuses of under the table deals that gave them a huge competitive advantage in recruiting. While schools like Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, and others were getting away with $100,000 deals, schools like St. John's were being investigated for giving kids lunch money or waving at a recruit at the wrong time of the year.
Now some are openly condoning schools paying college players in football and basketball hundreds of thousands dollars because they have alums lining kids pockets.
This unlimited payola firmly establishes the haves and have nots of "amateur" college athletics.
Why you or anyone with an ounce of respect for the sport would not be opposed to financial caps is bewildering.
Folks here and at other non-state funded schools should then reevaluate the metrics for measuring the success of coaches at less endowed schools like St. John's.
One of the supposed restrictions of an NIL is that it cannot influence the decision of a high school student as to what college to attend.
The whole process is now a complete cluster F.
